TheuseoftheCitizenBandradioserviceislicensedinAustraliabytheACMARadiocommunications(CitizensBandRadioStations)ClassLicenceandinnewZealandbytheMinistryofEconomicDevelopmentnewZealand(MED).AgeneralUserRadioLicence forCitizensBandradioandoperationissubjecttoconditionscontainedinthoselicences.

TheclasslicenceforusersandequipmentoperatingintheCB/PRS477Mhzbandhasbeenamended.Thisradiomeetsthenew80channelstandard.

Insimpletermsthesameamountofspectrumisavailable;however, radiotransceiverscannowoperateinanarrowerbandwidthandhenceuselessspectrum.Theseradiosaregenerallyreferredtoasnarrowbandor12.5khzradios.Byusing12.5khzchannelspacinginsteadof25khz,the40channelsoriginallyallocatedcannowbe

expandedto80channelstherebydoublingthechannelcapacity andrelievingcongestionintheUhFCB/PRSband.

Original40channelwidebandradioswillcontinuetooperateontheoriginal40channels,howevertheywillnotbeabletoconverseonthenewerchannels41–80.Thenewernarrowbandradioswillbeable toconversewithallolder40channelwidebandradiosonallchannels1to40aswellasthenewerchannelsallocatedfrom41to80.

Themixingofnarrowbandandwidebandradiosinthesamespectrumcancausesomepossibleoperatingissuesofinterferenceandvaryinglevelsofreceivedvolume.

PossiBle issUes

Whenanewnarrowbandradioreceivesatransmissionfromanolderwidebandradiothespeechmaysoundloudanddistorted–simplyadjustyourradiovolumeforbestperformance.

Whenanolderwidebandradioreceivesasignalfromanewnarrowbandradio,thespeechmaysoundquiet‑simplyadjustyourradiovolumeforbestperformance.

Dependingonhowcloseyourreceivingradioistoanothertransmittingradio,therecanbeinterferencefromthetransmittingradioifitisusingachanneladjacenttothechannelyouarelisteningto.Simplytrygoingupordownafewchannelsfromthecurrentlyselectedchannel.

Theabovesituationsarenotafaultoftheradiobutasymptomofoperatingwidebandandnarrowbandradiosinthesamebandwidth.Thispossibleinterferencewilldecreaseovertimeasthepopulationofwidebandradiosagesanddecreases.

TheACMAhasallocatedchannels5/35foremergencyuseonly.Channel5istheprimarySimplexEmergencyChannel.WhereaChannel5repeaterisavailable,youshouldselectDuplexonCh5.

NOTE: Channel35istheinputchannelfortheChannel5repeaterthereforeChannel35shouldalsonotbeusedforanythingotherthanemergency transmissions.

TElEMETRY CHANNElS

ACMAregulationshaveallocatedchannels22and23fortelemetryonlyapplicationsandhaveprohibitedthetransmissionofspeechonthesechannels.ConsequentlytheTX655hasatransmit‑inhibitappliedtochannels22and23.

Intheeventthatadditionaltelemetry/telecommandchannelsareapprovedbytheACMA,thesechannelsshallbeaddedtothosecurrentlylistedwherevoicetransmissionisinhibited.Currentlytransmissionsonchannels61,62and63arealsoinhibitedandthesechannelsarereservedforfutureallocation.

BATTERIES ANd CHARGING

Fitting the Batteries

TheTX655usesaninternalLithium‑Ionbatterywhichhasbeenpre‑installed.ForremovalorreplacementpleasecontactyourlocalDealer.Unauthorisedattemptstoremoveorreplacethebatterywillvoidyourwarrantyandmaydamageyourradio.

Charger Installation

Connectthepoweradaptortothemainspowersupplyandconnecttheadaptor’sDCplugstothechargercradles.TheLED’swillnot belit.

Battery Charging

Insertyourradiointooneofthechargingcradlesuntilitclicksintoplace.The‘Charging’LEDwilllightREDandtheradiowillstartcharging.IftheLEDdoesnotlightREDorbothLEDsblinkinREDandgREEn,removeandrefittheradiointothecradleagainuntilthe‘Charging’LEDlightsRED.

Thechargingtimeforafullydischargedbatteryistypically6‑7hours.Whenthebatteryisfullychargedthe‘Charged’LEDwill lightGrEEn.

PressthisbuttontoselectDuplexmodeonchannels1–8and 41–48.Duplexcanbeenabledordisabledseparatelyon individualchannels.DuplexoperationallowstheTX655totransmitonadifferentfrequencytothatwhichitreceives.Thisallowsoperationthroughrepeaterstationsinyourarea.Repeatersautomaticallyre‑transmityoursignaloveramuchwiderarea,providinggreatlyincreasedrange.TheDuplexmodeonlyworksonchannels1–8and41–48.WithDuplexselected,yourTX655actuallytransmits30channelshigher than it receives.

Selectaduplexchannel(1–8or41–48).BrieflypresstheDUP buttontotoggleduplexonoroffonthatchannel.WhenDuplexmodeisenabledontheselectedchannel,‘DUP’appearsonthedisplay.

Scan/Lock Button

Pressthisbuttonbrieflytoactivateordeactivatescanningwhereappropriate.Pressandholdthisbuttonfor2secondstoactivateordeactivatethekeypadlock.Thekeypadlockwillpreventsomebuttonsfrombeingpressedaccidentally.

TheCitizensBandRadioServiceoperatesonasharedchannelbasis.Thismeansthatotherusersandgroupsmaybeusinganyofthe80availablechannels.IftheChannelyouhaveselectedisalreadyinusepleasemakeanalternativeselection.

To use your radio

1. SwitchtheTX655onbypressingthePOWERbuttonfor2seconds.

2. Adjustthevolumebypressingthe or buttons.

3. SelecttherequiredchannelbypressingtheMODEbuttonthenpressingthe or buttons.

4. Listenfirsttoensurethechannelisclearbeforetransmitting.

5. Tospeak,holdtheradioupright,about10cmfromyourmouthandpressthePTT.Speakslowlyandclearlytowardstheradio.Thereisnoneedtoshoutasthemicrophoneisquitesensitive.ReleasethePTTwhenyouhavefinishedspeaking.

ADJUsTiNG THe VolUMe

Thereare7volumelevelstosuityourpersonalpreference.Toadjustthevolumelevel,pressthe or button.‘UL’isdisplayedalongwithavolumelevelsettingbetween1and7.Abeeptonewillalsoindicateanincreaseordecreaseinvolume.

NOTE: ThevolumelevelcannotbeadjustedwhenScanorDualWatchmodesareselected.

TheMenumodeallowsyoutoselectuserpreferences,activatefeaturesanduseadvancedfunctions.

To Access the Menu Mode

Press the MODEbuttonbrieflytoaccesstheMenuoptions.ContinuetopresstheMODEbuttonbrieflytostepsequentiallythroughtheavailableMenuoptions.Aniconassociatedwiththeselectedoptionwillflashonthedisplay.Toadjusttheselectedoption,presstheor buttons.

CTCSS(ContinuousToneCodedSquelchSystem)isaSquelchquietingsystemthatallowsseveralgroupsofuserstosharethesamechannelwithoutdisturbingeachother.Thesystemappliesacontinuouslow‑leveltonetoyourtransmissionandusesamatchingtonedecoderinyourreceivertocontrolitsSquelch.WithCTCSSenabled,thechannelremainsquiettoallincomingsignalsunlesstheycarrythecorrecttone.Whenatransmissionwiththecorrecttoneisreceived,theSquelchopensandremainsopenforaslongasthesignalispresent.Whenthetransmissionends,thechannelbecomesquietagain.Transmissionsthatdonotusethecorrecttonewillnotbeheard.

TheTX655isfittedwith38differentCTCSScodes(seecodechart).YoucanselectorchangethecurrentCTCSScodeviatheMODEMenu.IftheotherradiosyouarecommunicatingwitharenotusingCTCSS,setyourCTCSScodeto‘oF’.TheTX655allowsCTCSStobeenabledordisabledonindividualchannels.

DualWatchmodeallowsyoutomonitortwochannelsatthesametimeaprimarychannelandDualWatchchannel.Whenasignalisreceivedoneitherchanneltheunitwillpauseonthatchannelfor5secondsbeforeresumingtheDualWatch.

To Activate the Dual Watch Mode

1. Press the MODEbuttononcesothechanneldisplayflashesthenselectyourprimarychannelusingthe or buttons.

2. Press the MODEbuttonrepeatedlyuntil‘dh’appears.

3. Press the or buttonstoselectthedesiredDualWatchchannel.

To Deactivate Dual Watch Mode

Transmitting While in Dual Watch Mode

IfthePTTispressedwhiletheradioisreceivingasignalinDualWatchmode,theradiowilltransmitonthecurrentlydisplayedchannel.

IfthePTTispressedwhilenosignalispresent,theradiowilltransmitontheprimarychannel.

NOTE: the MODEbuttondoesnotfunctionwhiletheDualWatchmode is active.

HANDs FRee (VoX) MoDe

WhenhandsFree(VOX)modeisselectedtheradiowillautomaticallytransmitwhenevertheMicrophonedetectsyourvoice(orothernearbynoise).Itcanbeusedwiththeinternalmicrophoneorwithanappropriateaudioaccessory.

Toavoidaccidentaloperationandtoreducethechanceofbeingtriggeredbybackgroundnoisetherearetwomicrophonesensitivitysettings–highandLow.

ToactivatethehandsFree(VOX)mode,presstheMODEbuttonrepeatedlyuntil‘Uo’isdisplayed.Pressthe or buttonstoselectthesensitivitylevel(hIorLo).PressthePTTorwaitfor5secondstostoreyourchoice.ThiswillactivatetheVOXmode.The iconwillbedisplayedwhenVOXmodeisactive.

TodeactivatethehandsFree(VOX)mode,repeattheprocessaboveandsetthesensitivitysettingto‘oF’.

TheRoomMonitorworksinasimilarwaytothehandsFree(VOX)modebutusesonlythehighestmicrophonesensitivitysetting.Whenactivated,theRoomMonitorlistensforsoundsintheroom.Anyshort,briefsoundsareignoredbutacontinuoussoundlasting5secondsormorewillcausetheradiototransmitfor15seconds.Ifthesoundpersists,theradiowillcontinuetotransmitforafurther15seconds.

To Activate the Room Monitor Mode

To Activate the Intercom Mode

sCRAMBleR

Yourradioincorporatesasimplevoicescramblerusingbandinversion.Thescrambleriscompatiblewiththemajorityofscramblersusedbyothermanufacturers,allowingyoutoenjoyscrambledcommunicationswithbothgMEornon‑gMEradios.Oncethescramblerhasbeenactivatedyourtransmissionandreceptionwillonlybeintelligibletoothersusingthesamescramblertechnology.

1. Consumer guarantees

1.1 OurgoodscomewithguaranteesthatcannotbeexcludedundertheAustralianConsumerLaw.Youareentitledtoareplacementorrefundforamajorfailureandforcompensationforanyotherreasonablyforeseeablelossordamage.Youarealsoentitledtohavethegoodsrepairedorreplacedifthegoodsfailtobeofacceptablequalityandthefailuredoesnotamounttoamajorfailure.

2. Warranty against defects
