    The most wanted hat

Where is my book? he asked with an intrigued look onhis face Someone must have stolen my History book. Thesewere his exact words when he entered the staff room. A daybefore, he discovered that his History book was missing. He wasangry and puzzled at the same time. I heard him addressing me.He caught my attention. I raised my eyes, looked at him andwaited for his story.

He seemed to remember something from his days as a student at History.Without further introduction, he added: I once had this nice-looking, large-rimmed hat,Charlie Chaplin style. I was very proud of it. One day it just disappeared. I lookeddesperately for it; everybody was a suspect, including my colleagues. I inquired thebartender from the cafeteria where I used to drink my cup of coffee. No clues. Then I

adopted another attitude: from simple questions to threats with the militia as the policewas called back then.Six months passed by and I still didnt find my precious hat. All ended up in me

being avoided by my colleagues and friends. One afternoon, I entered the cafeteria as I had done hundreds of times before; I

sat down and waited for my coffee. I leant back in my chair and looked up at the wallfacing me. Surprise! I nearly fell off my chair, when, one meter above was the hat, asnew as ever, hanging from one of the decorations on the wall. I remembered all of asudden, that it was me who had hung it there and had, of course, forgotten about it.

I went straight to the waitress and asked in a harsh voice.Have you seen my hat?No, sir! she answered in a here we go again tone.

Here it is. I pointed to it, and here it has been all the time.Oh?! the waitress added, I thought it was part of the decorations. I would havenever figured out that this was the hat you wanted so badly.

The History teacher finished his story and the sparkle in his eyes died out aswell.

Maybe its the same situation here with your book said another teacher sorry, Ioverheard everything, and I couldnt help interfering. He added as a conclusion.
