As you adapt slides or talking points, please keep in mind: 1.Matching visuals and words Your audience will understand your message more easily when your comments include the visuals on the screen. While you don't want to just read the slides, your audience needs to hear the words they see on the screen. 2.Using local examples and data Although national data and examples are used in the presentation, your audience will be most interested in how Reading Recovery works in their district or site. Do make this relevant to your audience. As you consider time constraints, delete national information in favor of local implementation information. Be sure you have signed permission for any photos or case examples you are using. A downloadable release form is available in the online Marketing Toolkit. 3.Using the language, “Reading Recovery-trained teachers” People unfamiliar with Reading Recovery often do not understand the complex and varied responsibilities of Reading Recovery-trained teachers. To avoid the assumption that only a few students in the school benefit from Reading Recovery, it is best to say “Reading Recovery- trained teacher” rather than “Reading Recovery teacher.” This may seem awkward at first, but language shift allows you to subtly emphasize the broader expertise that a Reading Recovery- trained teacher brings to the classroom, small-group teaching, coaching, and teacher professional development. It’s worth making the change because language mediates thought. 4.Replacing photos and type in the presentation The images, typefaces, and words used in this PowerPoint have been selected to provide a professional, consistent, and powerful

USING THE RETENTION POWER POINT

This PowerPoint presentation is based on the Marketing PowerPoint presentation and is designed to be adapted for local school district or training site use with decision makers in districts that already have Reading Recovery. As you adapt slides or talking points, please keep in mind:

1.Matching visuals and words Your audience will understand your message more easily when your comments include the visuals on the screen.

4.Replacing photos and type in the presentationThe images, typefaces, and words used in this PowerPoint have been selected to provide a professional, consistent, and powerful presentation. We strongly advise against replacing any photos in the presentation other than the case study image (Slide 2). It will be difficult to find a local photo that fits the space and has the same impact of those included in the presentation.
