Kindy 3 Yellow children have been learning about light and shadow. They enjoyed exploring the

changes in size and shapes of their shadows as they move under the sun.

Here are some shadows of animals that we had tried to recreate. Can you guess what animal it is?

Look!

This side is

bright and it is

daytime.

This side is in the shadow.

In Milepost 3, Years 5 and 6 are currently investigating the world

of science and chemistry in their new unit, ‘Bake It’. Over the next three weeks, we will be learning how to make bread and investigating how changing variables in a variety of recipes can lead to changes in the output. The students will be learning to explain and justify their predictions and investigations as well as recording their findings and conclusions in an appropriate way. Already, we have looked at the effect of yeast when it is mixed with water and sugar and the classes have investigated by changing one variable to alter the effect of the experiment. In the following weeks, we will focus on making bread and on recording our scientific process.

Year 5 & 6 IPC Exit Point

- ‘Bake It’ -

In technology, students will be using their

knowledge and creativity to invent a new brand

of foods. To culminate the unit, our Exit Point

will challenge learners by holding a ‘Bake-Off’

competition at school amongst the Milepost. In

groups, students will see who will be able to

design and to make the most attractive and

appetizing bread. Our future chefs are in

training!

DRAMA IN THE ENGLISH

LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

On the 2nd of October 2019, the Tingkatan 4 acted out a drama called ‘The Right Thing to Do’. It was a drama signifying the lack of sincerity and prejudice in the society we live in.

The drama is centered around three random civilians who ran into a man lying on the pavement of a bustling street.

The performance was a great lesson for the students to practice expressing their opinions and work on their pronunciations. Their acting was impeccable, even rivaling the likes of Leonardo Di’Caprio.

David (Syed Ian) is a man who had little to no common sense as shown when he assumed that the man was asleep in a bustling street. His statement was then supported by Patrick (Aiman Zuhairi). Rebecca (Maqeel) later stated that she was unwilling to help because it wasn’t her problem.

This led to the appearance of a woman in blue (Lia Rajemah). She instructed the trio to help the man.

They were reluctant to follow at first, but after a strong persuasion by the woman in blue, they followed her instruction.

After helping the man out, paramedics (Harith and Nur Qadija) arrived at the scene. The paramedics identified the man as the famous celebrity chef, Michael Scott (Daniel Hafiez).

After finding out about his identity, the trio congratulated themselves for saving the celebrity’s life.

This highlights the lack of sincerity in society as the trio expects praises for helping the celebrity. It also shines the light on the presence of prejudice in our society.

The trio downplayed the role of the woman in blue even though she blatantly instructed them the steps to help the man.

All in all, this drama teaches its audience the significance of communication and cooperation. It relates the character’s actions to the ways we should act in reality.

All the students in Tingkatan 4 were encouraged to participate in this play in order to demonstrate and hone their English skills and to show what they were able to do with the language. We schemed through the scripts to familiarize ourselves with the lines. They were five scenes altogether and we took turns to carry out our acting role. Next, our teacher put up a few cards consisted of the utterances made by the characters in the play. Every student was asked to give their opinion on what was thought by the characters while saying those words. Overall, we learned how to express our thoughts and feelings through this activity.

I feel very honoured to be chosen as part of the play. I feel that I can

understand the central theme of the play better and I also learned some

valuable lessons from the characters in the play. Watch me earn the role of

the main actor next year.” -Syed Ian -

Now I’ve changed my thinking about English subject. Every time I look into my literature

book I have lots of ideas about what I can do connected with

drama. -Maqeel-

“Acting out our roles in this play was a fun and effective way to

improve our language skills and it can turn English learning into

an exciting process.” -Nur Qadija-

“The lesson is inspirational. It encourages us to be more

imaginative and creative during the lessons in a way to make each and

every one of us more fun and enjoyable as an individual.”

-Daniel Hafiez-

“All my classmates were very authentic and enthusiastic during the play which was quite

contagious! Without the support from my teacher and my classmates, I could have never done a drama confidently with the rest of my friends.

What a wonderful opportunity to learn in a setting with friends I enjoyed to be with.”

-Harith-

“It is a fantastic lesson to incorporate drama in the

language classroom with positive effort from my classmates. Every time I needed any help, the

teacher was there to explain and clarify doubts. I personally believe drama in the English classroom will increase my understanding of literary text and

eventually enliven our English lessons.” -Lia Rajemah-

“Through our drama activities, I find that the message of this play is

meaningful and it is also easier for me to follow the lesson. One of the moral val-ues that I can relate to is that we should

not be a selfish person. What you give is what you get.”

-Aiman Zuhairi-

Their first step was to pick different shapes, colours, and sizes. The layers of rock and soil were part of the beauty of their terrarium. Assembling their terrarium was an enjoyable activity for the students. They learned how to nourish and grow their little ecosystem. It was a fun learning experience and our students loved this activity. Here are some photos of the beautiful terrarium made by our students.

TERRARIUM-MAKING SESSION

Twelve stations were set up around the campus, comprising of multiple games and activities in regards to the English Language. Through a wide range of stimulating and challenging activities, the Tingkatan 3 students had learned the importance of creativity and teamwork. The participating students, who were divided into pairs, were required to complete all the games which were set up at each station. They were given an hour and a half to complete the entire games. All of the games and activities had some aspects of encouraging the students to practice the English Language either through their sensory or communication skills with their fellow partner. They were tested in various elements that were infused with fun for them. Congratulations to the team who finished first!

Terrariums are simply mini gardens living in a tiny little glass worlds. These self-contained eco-systems not only bring the serendipity of an outdoor garden into the classroom but it also boosts our students’ creativity as well as sharpens their focus. This week, the Tingkatan 3 students made their own terrarium out of clear containers. The class was divided into groups to work on this task. Each group planted succulents in their terrarium.

In PSHE lessons, students have

explored how some well-known faces

have achieved amazing things,

overcoming some challenges along the

way to finally become leaders who

inspired a lot of people in the world.

Students watched the PowerPoint slides

and short video clip which showed

people who have pursued their dreams

in different areas, featuring Madiba

Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, Alfred Nobel

and Mother Teresa etc. Each student

has then conducted research about one

of the famous people and from the

information created a slideshow

presentation. We hope the students will

inspired to follow their passion and to

view difference positively.

On Tuesday 22nd October Tunku Putra welcomed the Girls U-15 Volleyball Team from MRSM to

a friendly match.

It was the first ever match for the Tunku Putra girls team who have regularly been attending our

school development squad.

Tunku Putra, captained by IGCSE PE student Melanie, won the toss and elected to serve in the

first set. It took a while for the nerves to settle; they found themselves 5-0 down before recording

their first point. MRSM was a very organised team and ended up winning the first set 25-12.

It was a fantastic effort from Tunku Putra in the second set as they really gained in confidence

and led for most of the set only to lose out narrowly 25-23 in what was a really competitive and

hard fought set.

Although the match was supposed to be played best of three sets it was decided to play all three

as it was a friendly and it gave some opportunity to other members of the squad to get some

game time.

The Tunku Putra player of the match was Minjoo from Year 9.

On the 5th November we welcome MRSM back to Tunku Putra as their Boys U-15 team will be

playing against our boys team.
