• To cut emissions of green-house gases by at least 20 % in 2020

• Emission cuts to be implemented domestically

• No “offsets” in this target • Transparent policy measures

by Government to be evaluated biannually by Parliament

To reduce GHG emissions from 760,000 tonnes to 610,000 tonnes

• Energy supply from locally based renewable energy resources

• Electrify house heating and land-based transport

• Sustainable food production from fuel efficient fishing vessels

• Support research in maritime clean-tech solutions

• Climate change research and monitoring

• Prepare for timely adaptation to climate change

ELECTRIFICATION AND OPTIMIZATION

MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR

• Cross-sector group mandated to propose emission reduction targets and climate action plan

• Public hearing of all major stakeholders

• Political consultation of all political parties on target and policy

• Emission cuts unanimously resolved by Parliament

• Climate action plan to be implemented by Government

BROAD SUPPORT FOR CLIMATE POLICY

MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR

• The Faroese Parliament has decided that the Government shall steer the ship on a green course towards a more sustainable future

• The Faroes do not wish to pass on the burden of climate change to future generations to come

• Our fight against climate change starts now but it does not end in 2020
