2 Pitched roof systems, fastening elements and accessories

When the project planning of a mounting system is made, the professional approach is to choose the suitable sys-tems and components of a wide variety of parts of a construction kit considering the respective situation and the existing guidelines. An “universal component” that is suitable for all applications without adaptation, statically opti-mal and at the same time economically priced, does not exist! This paragraph informs about different kinds of pitched roof systems, but also about system components that can also be used in other systems (module clamping, fastening elements, etc.). Pitched roof system

Usually two horizontal cross beams carry one module line. The cross beams are connected with the substructure respectively the roof clad-ding with roof hooks or special fastening elements. The modules are fastened to the crossbeams with middle and end clamps. Usually they are installed vertically. There are roof hooks and special fastening elements available for almost any possible module arrangement.

Cross beam profiles

The cross beam profiles Eco05, Solo05 and Profi05 are the stan-dard basic components for the different fastening systems. For the profiles Solo05 and Profi05, plastic end pieces are available. A multiplicity of further profiles complements the system. This makes it a complete construction kit for almost all possible applica-tions. The range of standard profiles is complemented by the strong profile ProfiPlus and the profile series GP1 to GP3 for big span lengths. The profiles DN0 to DN3 can be used as continuous beams for substructures and load distribution girders. For the new foil roof system IsoTop alone there are another 20 profile designs available. Dimensioning programmes for every profile help you with your choice and the professional application.

Roof hooks and fastening elements

A big number of roof hooks, special fastening elements and fastening systems allows the installation of plants on almost any roof construc-tion. Respective tables of the system statics show you how many fastening elements are needed under the respective circumstances.

Roof hooks

There are roof hooks or rafter anchors for almost all brick and pan tile designs. The cost-effective welded hooks are available in different strengths from EcoG to VaMax (reinforced design for especially high snow loads). → Eco hooks product sheet → Eco S product sheet → VaMax product sheet All hooks are made of high-grade steel VA 1.4301. The welding of the hooks is certified after DIN 18.800 (welding norm for support-ing parts on buildings). NEW: Roof hooks for Spanish tile roofs

In Italy, Spain and southern France many roofs are covered with Spanish roof tiles laid on different subsurfaces (wood, brick ceilings or concrete). This tiles offer almost no hold for fastening systems. The system Mönch/Nonne for Spanish tile roofs offers special roof hooks for this problem. → Spanish tile roof (Mönch/Nonne) product sheet

Corrugated sheet metal roofs

On roofs with cement asbestos or also trapezoidal sheet metal roof covering usually the fastening kit for corrugated sheet roofs is used. A special hanger bolt is screwed into the substructure through the roof cladding and carries the cross beam over an adaptor plate. An UV-resistant EPDM sealing with sealing cone and supporting band is being tightened with a third mounting nut and safely seals the drill hole. Please note that on purlin roofs it can often be reasonable to use only vertical rails and to place the modules horizontally.

Plate fold clamps

On sheet metal roofs with upright plate folds the so-called plate fold clamps are used. They are clamped on the plate folds and carry the cross beam profiles. The statics of the roof covering have to be con-sidered because the fastening of the sheet metal has to be suitable for the occurring suction forces! The usage on titan zinc sheet metal roofs is not recommended be-cause this sheet metals become very brittle at cold temperatures and this can lead to cracks (the alternative in this case is the system Fix-Plan).

Clamps for other kinds of sheet metals

We offer clamps for almost all kinds of sheet metal roof coverings, from KalZip over BEMO and Zambelli to Fischer Klip-Tec. If your sheet metal is not on the list, we can possibly produce a special clamp. → Sheet metal clamps overview NEW: FixPlan • Registered at the German patent office

The new fastening system FixPlan is made for fastenings on different kinds of flat sheet metal roofs or also on sheet metal roofs with upright folds. The advantages of this system are the safe anchorage in the sub-structure and the tolerance to thermal elongations of the sheet metal roof covering. → FixPlan product sheet

Fix2000

Fix2000 has proved of value in about ten thousand mounting systems on trapezoidal sheet metal and sandwich element roofs. The Fix2000 bracket is customized for the respective measures of the trapezoidal sheet metal. It is mounted with four self-drilling screws. The special design Fix2000-U is also suitable for vertical rail arrange-ments but please note that an even loading of the sheet metal can usually only be reached with cross rails.

Important hints for Fix2000: • Only for the original Schletter bracket there are also calculated sys-

tem statics and system tests for the fastening on sandwich ele-ments!

• When aluminium rails are directly screwed to the sheet metal with-out Fix2000, the screw connections might completely fail because of thermal tensions.

Fix2000plus

Fix2000plus is an extension of the system Fix2000 for erections on trapezoidal sheet metal roofs. We want to explicitly point out that this system can only be used when the fastening of the sheet metal to the roof can bear the additional wind forces that come along with an erection! If this cannot be proved, of course there are suitable alternatives!

→ Fix2000plus product sheet → Fix2000 application hints

IsoTopS

Roof hook add-on kit for pitched roofs with on-roof insulation For roofs with on-roof insulation the standard roof hooks can be com-bined with longer screws and distance tubes. Please note that the combination has to be adapted to the existing insulation and that, depending on the combination, you have to calculate with a lessened load capacity per roof hook. → IsoTopS product sheet

GridTop

GridTop supplements the standard pro-gramme of simple and quickly mountable pitched roof systems as a cross rail sys-tem. GridTop is ideal for all cases in which the substructure offers only disadvantageous fastening points or in which the position of the cross beams has to be optimally adapted to the module rows. Mounting on cement asbestos or trapezoidal sheet metal roofs with crosswise battens or cross mounting of modules on pan tile roofs with disadvantageous row dis-tribution are only a few application examples.

→ GridTop product sheet

Please note: Normally you can not save roof hooks by using a cross rail mounting system. The necessary number of roof hooks per mod-ule area unit depends only on the static features of the hooks!

NEW: Fastening system FixE

The fastening system Schletter FixE© was developed especially for roofs with cement asbestos roofing on steel or sheet metal purlins. Because this kinds of roofs do not allow the usage of hanger bolts, the loads of the plant are distributed into the roof substructure over a pressure plate and distance tubes. A special EPDM rubber piece which is adapted to the shape of the cement asbestos plate provides for a reliable sealing. On roofs with wood purlins it is also possible to use normal hanger bolts or a combination of fastening methods. FixE fastenings are mostly used in combination with the erection sys-tem KompaktVario. They are made to measure especially for the parameters of the roof according to a check list filled in by the cus-tomer. The structural analysis is made by the effective Kom-paktVario system software.

NEW: Fastening system FixT

The elements of the fastening system Schletter FixT© distribute occurring loads of the plant substructure into the roof substructure over a pressure plate and distance tubes on steel purlins respectively over hanger bolts on wood purlins. A self-adhesive sealing band which is glued onto the top part of the corrugations or EPDM rubber sealing caps provide for a save sealing. The system is applicable on single-layer trapezoidal sheet metal roofs or also on roofs with sand-wich roofing. Special aluminium carrying elements guarantee for an optimal con-nection to almost any roof covering. In combination with the erection system KompaktVario, FixT is an universal system that allows erections on almost all purlin-based kinds of roofs! The configuration of the FixT elements is made with a check list. The structural analysis is made by the effective KompaktVario system software.

Systems with clamps

The Schletter mounting system offers clamp designs for all kinds of modules. For framed modules there are the normal middle and end clamps suitable for practically all kinds of modules. Schletter still focuses on the stable design that distributes the clamping pressure gently over the module frame and therefore avoids tensions in the glass! The range of clamps is supplemented by the series of grounding middle clamps. This clamps allow the grounding and the inclusion into the potential equalisation even of anodised module frames when mounting. There are different designs also for unframed modules. The clamps of the Laminat Eco series are suitable for a respective module thick-ness while the clamps of the Laminat Profi series are universally usable for different module thickness (also see systems for mounting laminates). When using laminate modules the general application hints have to be considered to avoid warranty risks!

Cable duct systems

A professional cable routing can critically affect the end user’s overall impression of a plant. The standard profiles (Profi 05) of the Schletter system offer the possibility of cable routing. The module plugs can be clicked into the cable duct and give the wiring additional hold. The duct can be supplemented with a lid. Furthermore there also is an additional cable duct available for retrofitting. The so-called square cable duct can be fastened to the cross beams at a right angle and is screwed from the bottom. For bigger wiring amounts we offer the cable duct system MaxK. It consists of different system components, even an extendable univer-sal duct is available.

→ SecuFix product sheet

FROM THE END OF 2006: SecuFix2

SecuFix2 is the consequential extension of SecuFix. An additional “side protection” at the ends of the module rows makes a plant even more thief-proof. SecuFix2 must be seen as an extension to secure the module clamp connections and can of course be combined with other concepts (electronic plant surveillance, etc.).

FROM THE END OF 2006: RS2 and RS3 Concepts for frame stabilisation

At critical spots of a plant, the allowed area load is possibly exceeded because of snow loads. Series-production modules are available only for certain maximal area loads. The concepts RS2 and RS3 allow an additional external stabilisation of the module frames and the module bond at critical spots (for example on very flat roofs the bottom row of a plant). Please note that the application of this measures has to be necessar-ily arranged with the module distributor.

Laminat Profi

The laminate clamp with UV resistant EPDM rubber is the main com-ponent of the fastening system Laminat Profi for laminates. It is suit-able for modules from 3 to 14mm. The ends of a module row are closed with corresponding end clamps. A VA-steel safety hook is used as anti-slip device if the modules are mounted vertically. The central clamping guarantees for a fast and flexible mounting. The clamp is fastened to the cross beam with a socket head screw, the module is jammed and at the same time the safety hook is clamped.

→ Laminat Profi product sheet please note: → Laminate mounting – general hints

LaminatEco

The laminate clamps of the Eco series are the even lower-priced al-ternative for the clamping of modules with a certain thickness. The laminates are only supported “floatingly” in the clamp. Additional secu-rity hooks are necessary for vertically mounted modules with this kind of clamping.

3 Flat roof systems

When the project planning of an erection system is made, the professional approach is to choose the suitable sys-tems and components of a wide variety of parts of a modular system considering the respective situation and the existing guidelines. An universal system that is suitable for all applications likewise, statically optimal and at the same time economically priced does not exist! This general rule is certainly even more important for mounting on flat roofs than for usual pitched roof mounting. For that reason the Schletter mounting system for flat roofs offers a big variety of different fastening possibilities. Fundamentally this two cases have to be distinguished: a) Fastening systems with roof penetration and b) loading solutions. Loading solutions should not be chosen or offered without previous careful clarification since the load carrying ca-pacity of the roof can possibly forbid this possibility in the first place. It has to be especially considered that particu-larly the loading calculation according to the new guidelines (wind loads after DIN 1055, part 4 (03/2005) and Euro-code 1 (06/2002)) possibly demand very high loads that might exceed the load carrying capacity of the roof. Schlet-ter offers a complex calculation software according to the latest norms! By the choice of an intelligent construction variant the needed loads can possibly be reduced to a fraction. We offer you the needed advice. Please also note our general hints for the dimensioning of flat roof fastenings and loadings: → General hints for the project planning of flat roof fastenings Please also note that due to the modified calculation methods for wind and snow loads, supports that have been dimensioned according to the guidelines older than 2006 are no longer allowed (plants built before have a con-tinuation permit). The calculation methods according to the new guidelines require much bigger dimensions! The following examples give an overview over the standard systems. Systems with single supports

When mounting on single supports most of the times the module row is fastened on cross beams which again rest on a row of single supports. The supports can be fastened to the roof or loaded individually. Support series Light

Especially light angle support, particularly for cross mounting. Standard angle 30 degrees, user-defined angles on order Support series Profi

Low priced angle support, suitable for upright mounting Standard angle 30 degrees, user-defined angles on order The standard support series will be produced in an once more opti-mised design with newly dimensioned profiles (see the hints above considering the new calculation methods). → Supports programme 06 • Supports for bigger support distances or for multi-row mounting

Connected support designs

Connected support designs offer considerable advantages compared to single supports.

• Row distribution is independent from the roof substructure • For loading solutions considerably less extra load is necessary • Loads are evenly distributed into the roof construction

However the packaging is more complex in most of the cases than when independent single supports are used. → General hints for the project planning of flat roof systems ProfiKompakt

The ProfiKompakt construction is made of different series-production supports and a continuous bottom profile according to the specifications given in the check list.

• The structural analysis of all lengthwise and crosswise span lengths and the used fastening elements is made with a special project plan-ning programme.

KompaktVario

KompaktVario© is a very flexible erection system for flat and pitched roofs, especially also for bridging big purlin distances. There is a com-plete series of double-groove profiles DN0 to DN3 which can be used as distribution girders in north-south direction. Therefore the most economic solution can be found for any mounting application respec-tively any span length. No drill holes have to be made on site! Support top parts (consisting of module girder and back support) are mounted onto the double-groove profiles using fitting kits. The system KompaktVario can also be mounted parallel to the roof (pitched roofs). In this case the support top parts are replaced by special cross connector plates. In combination with the different fastening elements (for example FixT, FixE) the erection system KompaktVario is a very universal system, that allows erections on practically all kinds of purlin roofs!

SystemDT

In many cases there are parts of the roof substructure running in north-south direction which are suitable for fastening module erec-tions. In this cases a fastening similar to KompaktVario but with crosswise continuous beams can be used. The system does also make sense if the necessary amount of fasten-ing points on the roof can not be reached only with supports or if a better distribution of the fastening points is necessary because of a limited firmness of the roof covering (for example on sheet metal roofs).

→ SystemDT product sheet

NEW: IsoTop • Registered at the German patent office

Industrial foil roofs often consist of a substructure with big girder dis-tances (5 to 8 meters) and a relatively soft roof covering. The struc-tural dimensioning of the roofs and also the allowed pressure load of the insulation is often so small that loading solutions for module fas-tening are out of question from the beginning. IsoTop© is a modular construction kit with details and solutions for carrying constructions on industrial foil roofs. IsoTop here offers the suitable solution for any roof – depending on the object consisting of parts of the standard system construction kit or also complete special solutions. In the offering stage we provide individual consulting service for planning the carrying construction in order to find the most eco-nomic solution for the respective roof. In general the construction is optimised in a way that only a few penetration points in big distances are necessary. These can be reliably welded by a roofer (at a low price). Like this the warranty claims are clearly split up. → IsoTop product sheet

4 Open area systems

Open area systems vary primarily in the type of the foundation and the module arrangement. Similarly as on flat roofs for example concrete foundations can be used for loading. In many cases, especially if a plant is very big, screwed or rammed foundations are the more advanta-geous solution in price. Further advantages are the simple renaturation and the minimal ground sealing. Here an accurate determination of the ground features and wind loads of the module area are essential. Depending on the wishes of the customer or the local permission guidelines the modules can be mounted in single rows to reach a minimal visible height of the plant or a multi-row arrangement can be used to build big module tables. Especially when using unframed modules, crosswise mounting can be advantageous to allow an easier module fastening.

PvMax2

PvMax2 is a universal modular construction kit consisting of high-quality aluminium and high-grade steel components for small and medium-sized plants on concrete foundations. Due to the far reaching standardisation, systems with different module arrangements can be constructed very quick and easily. For the planning of a plant there are a project planning software and a panning software for the statics. Therefore usually no costs accrue for the individual plant planning. The system usually works with module rows of a total length of app. 18m on frame-work supports. Parts of 12m or 6m are also possible. The size of the supports and the total dimensioning were chosen with regard to an accessible ground. At the back end of the modules up-right standing is possible so that for example the whole area can be mowed from the back.

PvMax2-S

Fast mounting, a low price, the avoidance of damages to the terrain and a simple renaturation without any disposal costs are the main advantages of the combination of the system PvMax2 with special screw foundations. The screw foundations are places on site with appropriate mounting devices and replace the conventional concrete foundations.

System FS • Registered at the German patent office

The system FS© is primarily suitable for large scale plants. Because of the direct connection of the module erection with especially opti-mised rammed foundations, an optimal price-performance ratio is reached. Based on the ground analysis of the site and according to the wishes of the customer concerning the arrangements of the modules, a mounting rack is usually completely optimised for the special case. The foundations are dimensioned considering the occurring loads and are made to measure. A minimal mounting time is reached by the usage of just a few component parts and by comfortable adjustment possibilities of the rack. Reference projects with an output in the two-digit megawatt region verify the optimised economic and technical features of the system.

FSVario • Registered at the German patent office

A very simple and low-priced possibility of optimising yields is the uniaxial tracing in north-south direction. This can for example also be profitable with thin layer modules. The system FSVario© allows man-ual tracing without big additional effort. Because of the advantageous support of the modules in one barycentre axis, the adaptation can be made by just one person without any problems.

FSTrack

FSTrack© is the consequential advancement of FSVario and offers the possibility of an automatic uniaxial tracking. The very simple and robust mechanics avoid maintenance costs and allow the wind load proof in any setting. Therefore the safety concept is absolute inde-pendent from the tracking system. Even low module rows can be economically realised which often can simplify the approval of a plant.

5 Support and service

Not only the right components and systems for almost any possible project are important for a professional object planning, but also universal planning aids and a qualified expert advice! In the following paragraph some examples of such aids are described: Auto calculator

The auto calculator software is a programme which helps you with the planning of your mounting system and the calculation. Therefore it supports the installer or distributor with the technical project planning and especially with the preparation of an offer. Complex price calcula-tions are done in seconds. Alternatives and variants can be compared very easily.

Auto calculator – schematic pictures

The editing of the plant project plan as a CAD image is too expensive in many cases and often not a bit necessary. The auto calculator creates schematic pictures without additional expenses. In many cases this replaces further imaging.

Shade calculator

The shade calculation helps the installer with the planning of flat roof plants. A minimal row distance is being suggested regarding the plant geometry and can be demonstrated in a clear sketch. The latest ver-sion is available on demand or in the download section.

System statics 2006 Project planning table

for roof hooks

New: System statics 2006

The system statics give exact guidelines for the application of all sys-tem components and for different configurations. Like this they guar-antee for safety and at the same time for cost effectiveness because of the optimal utilisation of the components. To enclose the system statics and building documents to the plant documentation normally replaces a complete single structural analysis and protects the in-staller from subsequent warranty claims. With the new norms (new guidelines for wind and snow loads and completely new calculation methods) all static calculations and pro-grammes had to be worked over in the year 2006. General hints and guidelines, load calculation and project planning tables are to your disposal for free as our customers. Complex software programmes for all components and systems allow us the internal preparation of complete individual structural analysis. They are to your disposal in the framework of calculations where required.
