DegreeWorks is…

DegreeWorks is a computerized, web-based degree audit program and academic advising tool that has been designed to assist students and their advisors in reviewing their progress toward graduation.

This program takes courses from the student’s transcript (which are arranged chronologically) and reorganizes them so advisors and students can see the completed and remaining degree requirements by categories.

DegreeWorks rearranges a student’s transcript, which SIMS organizes chronologically, and places the

courses according to the degree requirements.

What is the “What-If” audit?

“What-If” audit allows advisors and students to process speculative degree audits for students using their current class history.

Students can use this feature if they are thinking of changing their majors, minors and/or concentrations and would like to know how their course(s) will be applicable to their intended program.

What is the “What-If” audit?“What-If” audits may be printed, but are not saved to the system.

When selecting the requirement criteria for a “What-If” audit, it is important to select the Degree Program (ex. Bachelor of Arts) before selecting the Degree/Major combinations from the drop down list.

Note: DegreeWorks reflects the requirements for the 2009-2011 Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletins.

Using DegreeWorks, and asking your students to review their audits before they meet with you, allows students to play an active role in the advising process. In addition, rather than just reviewing registration, you can spend more time talking about the student’s development, choices and future plans.

The DegreeWorks advisement system tries its best to fit all of the “In Progress” (most recently registered) courses, sometimes moving other courses that previously fulfilled the requirements.

For this reason, it is critical that users understand degree requirements. This issue should not be a cause for concern, as long as students are aware while planning their future registration(s).

All courses will be properly applied during the official graduation review by the Graduation Auditors.
