DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
THE SITE
The site is located at Land Adjacent 1 Capstan Square, London.
The development is to construct a new build residential dwelling consisting of ground floor, first floor & second
floor.
THE BUILDING
The new 3 storey building in London which will be of traditional load bearing masonry construction 102.5mm
brickwork outer skin, 100mm cavity & 140mm internal 10N/mm2 internal skin, with a beam and block ground
floor slab, Timber Uppper Floors.
The PC Units & attic trusses are to be designed by a specialist contractor, all loadings for this have been provided
on the drawings
Minimum bearing of beams & lintels is to be 100mm, 150mm preferable.
The foundations have been designed with a GBP of 75kN/mm2.
It is noted that the internal skin is specified to be 100mm thick 10N/mm2 dense blockwork, the contractor wishes
to use clay blocks by porotherm, these have the same loading capacity as the 10N/mm2 blockwork.

Note: Hollow core precast slabs are assumed to be used for this project, Hanson information has been provided,
but similar products can be used as long as maximum span and self-weight is confirmed to the Structural
Engineer.
Based on the table above, with a superimposed load of 2.5 kN/m
2 we can get a maximum span of 7.38 m.
