FROM THE INTERIM DIRECTOR

Dear Friends of Recreation,I am thrilled to serve as the Interim Recreation Director with the City of Takoma Park. The recreation team has been incredibly busy positioning the department for implementation of the “new” vision for recreation services approved by the City Council in October. We’re exploring new programming opportunities, evaluating our community recreational facilities and reaching out to partners for creative collaboration.

Be sure to join us for programs and sporting events throughout the winter such as our multi media workshops, visual arts classes, winter basketball league, and activities for our senior population. Volunteers are needed for most of these events; if you are interested, please call the Recreation Department at 301-891-7290. We also encourage you to become involved with the Recreation Committee to help promote the benefits and importance of recreation in the City! We look forward to a rewarding winter full of Recreational opportunities for you and your family. Enjoy your winter and thank you for your continued support! Be sure to check out our newly renovated Takoma - Piney Branch Park (Ed Wilhelm Field) - to be open this Spring!

Thank You - Gregory Clark, Interim Recreation Director

Day Trip Adventures ProgramThe Senior Program provides day trip adventures around the Washington metropolitan area designed for active adults, age 55 and older.

Each trip requires a substantial amount of walking and/or physical exertion. For this reason, a convenient *walking/accessibility/distance guide is included in the trip descriptions (*this guide can be found in the Silver Fox newsletter). This helps residents determine which adventure is best suited to their individual needs.

The trips depart from the Takoma Park Community Center, located at 7500 Maple Avenue, Ta-koma Park, Maryland. Pick-up is available to residents of Victory Tower, Franklin Apartments, and Mapleview Apartments only. Transportation is provided at no cost for seniors. Participants are responsible for lunch, entrance fees or any other additional fees associated with these trips. The Recreation Bus can accommodate up to 21 persons. The bus is heated and air-conditioned for your comfort; wheelchair accessible; no bathroom facilities.

Join us for an enjoyable and safe adventure.

How to register for trips:A detailed description, with dates and times, is included in the Silver Foxes Newsletter published 3-5 days prior to the start of each month.

Department says goodbye to Recreation Coordinator

More than 200 people turned out for this years’ Hal loween Event (held at Piney Branch Elementary School due to a rare October snow storm). This was Carey Antoszewski’s last special event with the Recreation Department, as she will be moving to Arizona with her family in December. The event was a huge success as participants had fun playing games, taking part in festive activities, and partying with friends. The costume contest was truly something to see (thanks to creative Takoma Parkers), and the band rocked the evening away with festive party sounds.

Carey was also know for her many years run-ning summer camp programs as well as working with classes and contractors. Carey started working as a camp director in a part-time capacity and was later hired to do youth programming as a career staff.

“Carey did a great job with our youth and adult programs. I’m sure she will be missed by the community and the many kids she worked with, as well as the staff in the department” said Gregory Clark, Interim Recreation Director.

Carey Antoszewski (pictured right), worked as a Recreation Supervisor for 8 years.

She said fairwell to the community this past month.
