Godly Goals In 2015 During my prayer and study retreat last week, the Lord helped me to focus on ten goals which I believe are worthy objectives for each of us in our church this year. We are sharing a written piece with you this weekend which you can keep in your Bible through the year. You have heard it said, “Aim at nothing, and you are sure to hit it.” Author H. Jackson Brown Jr. quipped: “Talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates. There is plenty of movement, but you never know if it is going to be forward, backwards, or sideways.” Let’s go forward on this journey of faith. No talent required. The goals which I am sharing with you are best applied as you take one at a time. However, I urge you to make sure you are experiencing spiritual life- change as you “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). Our teenagers are currently experiencing a special D-NOW (Disciple Now) weekend. We welcome special guest, Dr. Alvin Reed, Evangelism Professor and long-time youth communicator from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Discipleship is for all believers and not just for teenagers. However, pray for them to be disciples (learners) and witnesses. We are to know why we are here, Who we serve, and where we are going. This is why Jesus made a priority of prayer, “very early in the morning,” but He also refused to stay in a region even though the apostles tried to twist His arm by saying, “Everyone is looking for You!” He said, “Let us go on to the next towns that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out” (Mark 1:35-38). The world and not the local need was His call and mission. We are here to be conformed to Jesus’ image (Romans 8:29), but also to reach others. May we be focused like Jesus. The famous missionary doctor, Albert Schweitzer, stated: “I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know; the ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.” The apostle Paul declared, “This one thing I do… I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13, 14). The Lord impressed on me that we should attempt to do at least “one thing” in different areas. Of course, you may do far more, but I urge you to focus by making your vision not only visible (with the eyes of faith), but also measurable and possible. You “can do all things through Him who strengthens you” (Philippians 4:13).
