PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

This Section includes the supply and installation of snap-on metal cladding as shown on the drawings and specified herein.

1.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCE:

Provide exterior snap-on metal cladding capable of withstanding the effects from gravity loads and stresses without showing permanent deformation of the system components; noise or metal fatigue caused by vibration, deflection, displacement and permanent damage to fasteners and anchors.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. PRODUCT DATA:

Submit manufacturer’s product specification and installation instructions to show compliance with the requirements of the Engineer.

B. COODINATION DRAWINGS:

Plan and elevation drawn to scale and coordinating penetrations and mounted items. Show the following:

1. Joint pattern.

2. Cladding system members.

3. Method of attaching fasteners, anchors and frames to building structure.

4. Minimum Drawing Scale: 1:50.

C. SAMPLES:

Submit Manufacturer’s samples for approval of the Engineer.

D. QUALIFICATION DATA:

For firms and persons specified in “Quality Assurance” Article to demonstrate their capabilities and experience. Include lists of completed projects with project names and addresses, names and addresses of Engineers and owners and other information specified.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. INSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS:

Engage an experienced installer who has completed snap-on metal cladding similar in material, design, and extent to that indicated for this Project and with a record of successful in-service performance.

B. SOURCE LIMITATIONS for SNAP-ON METAL CLADDING:

Obtain each snap-on metal cladding from one source with resources to provide products of consistent quality in appearance and physical properties without delaying the Work.

C. MOCK-UPS:

Before installing snap-on metal cladding system, construct mockups for each form of construction and finish required to verify materials made under sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects and qualities of materials and execution. Build mockups to comply with the following requirements, using materials indicated for completed Work:

1. Locate mockups in the location and of the size indicated or, if not indicated, as directed by Engineer.

2. Notify Engineer seven days in advance of the dates and times when mockups will be constructed.

3. Demonstrate the proposed range of aesthetic effects and workmanship.

4. Obtain Engineer's approval of mockups before starting construction of snap-on metal cladding.

5. Maintain mockups during construction in an undisturbed condition as a standard for judging the completed Work.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE and HANDLING

Deliver snap-on metal units system components to Project site in original, unopened packages and store them in a fully enclosed space where they will be protected against damage from moisture, direct sunlight, surface contamination, and other causes.

1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. ENVIRONMENTAL LIMITATIONS:

Do not install snap-on metal cladding until environment conditions is acceptable to the manufacturer’s recommendation and approved by the Engineer.

1.7 COORDINATION

SECTION 055050 SNAP-ON METAL CLADDING ___________________________________________________________________________

Project No. RY-1211, Volume II 055050 - 3 RY-1212, RY-1213, RY-1214, RY-1215

Coordinate layout and installation of snap-on metal cladding with other construction in accordance with the sequence of Work.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL

A. SHEET METAL CHARCTERISTICS:

Form metal cladding from sheet metals selected for their surface flatness, smoothness, and freedom from surface blemishes where exposed to view in finished unit. Do not use materials whose exposed surfaces exhibit pitting, seam marks, roller marks, variations in flatness exceeding those permitted by referenced standards for stretcher-leveled metal sheet, stains, discolorations, or other imperfections.

1. ALUMINUM SHEET:

Complying with ASTM B 209 (ASTM B 209M), alloy and temper recommended by aluminum producer and finisher for type of use and finish indicated, and with not less than the strength and durability properties of the alloy and temper in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendation and approved by the Engineer.

B. FABRICATION:

Die form snap in metal cladding, from metal indicated, into units of size indicated and configuration standard with manufacturer, continuous frames, beads, or spring clips on flanges for snap-on engagement with concealed framing system, and finished according to requirements of the Engineer.

C. CHARACTERISTICS:

Comply with requirements indicated ASTM E 1264 classifications.

2.2 DIRECT METAL CLADDING SYSTEMS

A. System composed of snap-on main runners and frames attached directly to building structure and complying with the following requirements:

1. FRAMES:

Angles or channels, as standard with the system manufacturer, formed from same metal as main runners; unless otherwise indicated on drawings

2. MAIN RUNNERS:

Formed from the following metal:

a. GALVANIZED STEEL SHEET:

Project No. RY-1211, Volume II 055050 - 4 RY-1212, RY-1213, RY-1214, RY-1215

ASTM A 653/A 653M, G90 (Z275) coating designation.

b. ELECTROLYTICALLY ZINC-COATED STEEL SHEET:

ASTM A 591/A 591M, with Class C zinc coating.

c. ALUMINUM SHEET:

Alloy and temper recommended by aluminum producer and finisher for type of use and finish indicated, and with not less than the strength and durability properties specified in ASTM B 209 (ASTM B 209M) for 5005-H15.

d. STANILESS-STEEL SHEET:
