JOHN ROWE is a photographer and filmaker who first trained at the
US Navy School of Photography when he
was 18 years old.
John is a successful businessman who has founded and managed com-panies which develop software and digital media for the entertainment industry.
He has also devoted a tremendous amount of time, energy and financial assistance to humanitarian work in Africa and to the work of OMO CHILD (www.omochild.org).
OMO CHILD’s mission is to provide a safe, nur-turing home and quality education for rescued Mingi children. Our hope is that these children will become future leaders in their tribes and communities. We also raise awareness about the practice of Mingi and work to see it eliminated.
Mingi is the ritualistic kill-ing of infants and children believed to be cursed by tribes living in the re-mote Omo Valley region of Southwest Ethiopia. w

4 WAY TEST
For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do
As Rotarians, we should have The Four-Way Test in mind in every decision we make, all day long. Our utmost responsi-bility is to Speak The Truth, to Be Fair, to Build Goodwill and Better Friendships, and to do our very best in all situations.
4 Way Test was developed in 1932 by
Herbert J. Taylor.
---- 1 ---- Is it the TRUTH?
---- 2 ----Is it FAIR to all concerned?
---- 3 ----
Will it build GOODWILL and
better FRIENDSHIPS?
---- 4 ----Will it be BENEFICIAL
to all concerned?

FROM THE NOVEMBER 21 MEETING
Do you, a friend or a local business have a product or service you can donate as an auction item?
This is a Win-Win for both the club and the donor. All proceeds go directly to Our Club to support our Avenues of Service.
1. We will put the auction item in the bulletin with the person/business that made the dona-tion for 2 weeks before the item is auctioned.
2. It will be the only item auctioned that week. This gives more exposure for the business.
3. You can win an item even if you are not at the club meeting by emailing your bid. If it is the highest bid for the item you will win it!
Please email Lisa Galstian at [email protected] with auction items, bids on items or other questions.

“Congratulation Jo Jo Caldwell from all of us @ Rotary”
Its a Baby Girl!
President Ron Kohl called the meeting to order and introduced the Rotarian of the Day Ellen Bryson. She told us about being a Valentine Day Baby, jumping out of an airplane at age 15 and being the THIRD member of our Club. She is looking forward to a great year next year being now working with her daughter. In some brief announcements, Ron announced the 1000 Smiles project will be Friday February 6 and Saturday February 7. There is a sign up page on the table. Also, Fary Moini is leaving for Afganistan today. She will be following up and working on our projects there. Have a safe trip Fary! Bev Fritschner announced that the bridges walk was fantastic and there is another in our near future.
The District Foundation meeting is tomorrow, Nov 22. Kathleen will be speaking. There will be an exciting announcement tomorrow. Please come to support her. The Club will pay your fee for you. Alex Monroe announced
that our first painting project will be at the San Diego Oasis on Jan. 10, 2015. He also, along with Kim reminded us that there is still time to sign up and pay for the holiday party on December 6. There will be a theatre set up for the children featuring the movies Frozen and Elf. For the adults, there will be Adult Beverages, Great Food, revelry and music by the Calif Cogs. Jim Davies is heading up the Oz Shelter Project on Sat. Dec.13. Lori Bende announced the great news that Jo Jo Caldwell had a baby girl! Also, some serious news. Frank McGrath is being treated for throat cancer. A get well card is being passed around to be signed by all. Get well soon Frank!
Jen Schaffer introduced today’s guests. Fary brought her sister, Michael Barden brought his wife of 48 years and Barbara brought Debra McGinty-Proteet. Denny Jacobs presided over the High Fives and Fines. He fined Mike B for not having his pin for an interview,
Fary M for confusion over her sister, and Rita Lim for not having business cards for her new Blinds Business.
Bill Keane introduced our main speaker, Ali Crumpacker who is Director of the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona. They rescue, rehab and release animals... especially predatory animals. She gave a very interesting talk about the balance of nature and how it relates to protection programs of certain animals. She also talked about dealing with animals on our property and the specific animal nesting habits and closed with how to protect our gardens and property from certain critters. I cannot go into much detail about this except to say that those families with younger adult males in the household have an advantage in the ability to deter certain invaders!
The meeting closed on a high note with a funny story from President Ron that he was given from Rick Clark.

I am proud to say that I was one of the first female members of
the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club, joining in 1988. How times flies when you are having fun!! Being one of many who has been involved in growing and developing the Most Dynamic Rotary Club in the World has been great fun and very gratifying. One of the biggest bonuses of this long-time involvement has been the deep friendships I’ve developed. Over the years I’ve served on the board more than once, have been secretary of the Club, chaired various fundraisers including “Cheers” and currently Chair the Youth Services Committee.
Up until mid-2007, I worked full time as the Vice President of Development for the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, a career that was more fulfilling than I could ever have imagined. The health sciences field has always been of great interest to me. As a youngster I marched with my Mom in our neighborhood collecting dimes for the March of Dimes to help in the fight to cure polio. To end up at the Institute that Jonas
Salk founded after he developed the polio vaccine, was more than I could have ever hoped. Raising money and spreading the news about Salk both nationally and internationally was never a job for me, it was a passion and very gratifying. It was great fun bringing together leaders in business and industry, medicine, law, finance, communications, the arts and entertainment with the some of the world’s most brilliant scientists, the results of which helped pave the way to understanding and curing some of the devastating diseases facing mankind.
After retiring, I incorporated and consulted for Salk until their new development team was in place. I continue to consult for two large foundations, one in California and one in Colorado who fund not only scientific research but also a variety of other very worthwhile causes.
Brad and I are members of the San Diego Country Club where I have served on the board. I am past captain of our Winter Cup Team, past president of the Women’s Golf Association and currently chair the
Social Committee
(right up my alley), and chair of the Marketing and Fundraising Committee for the 2017 USGA Women’s Amateur Championship that is being held at the San Diego Country Club.
When I’m not golfing, or trying to be a good Rotarian, Brad and I are enjoying more travel, adding more wine to our cellar, and spending more time in our kitchen.
Born and raised in Vancouver, B.C., we spend a fair amount of time with my family there specifically with seven adorable grand nieces and nephews.
