LIEUTENANT

SDPD POLICE CHIEF SHELLEYZIMMERMAN
The SDPD Family Justice Center was founded in 2002. The FJC is the culmi-
nation of a singular vision to meet all domes-
tic violence victims’ needs in one place. Prior
to this victims had to go from place to place
and retell their story over and over again.
This would re-traumatize victims and provid-
ed multiple opportunities for victims to give
up or be failed by bureaucracies. The San
Diego Family Justice Center was the first of
its kind in the world. It is a place where all do-
mestic violence victims’ needs can be met in
one place to the end of breaking the cycle of
violence by looking at victims in their totality.
Lieutenant Charles Lara will give a brief over-
view on the San Diego Family Justice Center.
we welcome our special guest

4 WAY TEST
For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do
As Rotarians, we should have The Four-Way Test in mind in every decision we make, all day long. Our utmost responsi-bility is to Speak The Truth, to Be Fair, to Build Goodwill and Better Friendships, and to do our very best in all situations.
4 Way Test was developed in 1932 by
Herbert J. Taylor.
---- 1 ---- Is it the TRUTH?
---- 2 ----Is it FAIR to all concerned?
---- 3 ----
Will it build GOODWILL and
better FRIENDSHIPS?
---- 4 ----Will it be BENEFICIAL
to all concerned?

Let’s just stipulate that Jim Da-vies can do wonderful things with his mouth. As ROTD, he opened with a trumpet, continued with a cheek pop, and ripped sound effects with-out abandon throughout the morn-ing. Jim graciously cut his presen-tation from 20 minutes to 18, though as a 20-year Most Dynamic member, we could have extended him the full 20. Mr. Davies shared his rich life through pictures, one of the high-lights being his Man Cave, extraor-dinarily and architectly-geeked out. Mr. Wonka displayed the surpris-es inside every door, and the Craft-ing Grotto to keep the boss happy. Professionally, he demonstrated his oversight of turning Grossmont College green by piling rock where previously green (grass) resided, among other means to supervise $207 million in improvements. Beer was undoubtedly the dominant theme flowing through Jim’s life narrative, capped with his nod to George Mannschreck’s quote about the educational value of fish-ing skills vis-a-vis beer.

Announcements included Rotarians at Work Day April 26 from Alex Monroe, a successful Model UN from Erik Mjoen, upcoming busi-ness mixer on May 15 from Laara Gervais, and our Ar t & Beer Festival on June 28 from Linda Stouffer. For the festival: Invite vendors, Sell Tickets, and Buy Tick-ets. What better way to buy booze for friends? Ron Kohl also an-nounced food delivery to Casa de Paz on April 19 and the Governors Dinner installing Louise Andres on June 24. Krishna Aurora told us about the Skype call from Pre-uss to New Delhi, with a somewhat ambiguous reference to Murphy’s Law (not much more ambiguous than the Mr. Wonka reference).
A couple months ago my Seventh Grader submitted to her teacher a research paper entitled, “What the Frack is Wrong with Fracking”, so I was confident any material present-ed by David Edick on fracking would be redundant. Although Rita Lim-Wilby introduced Mr. Ed-ick as someone who thinks about things we do not, obviously she has not met my daughter.
A summary of Mr. Edick’s presen-tation? His presentation was over-
flowing with educational and salient information. In shor t, steerable drills go 7 to 8,000 feet down to shale, then drill horizontally. These tunnels are filled with tubes and concrete casings so that pressurized water with additives can run through the pipes ultimately causing fissures in the shale and releasing gas to the head of the well. Mr. Edick de-scribed this as a mostly controlled process. Although early fracking production in California’s Monterey Shale has produced volume below expectations, fracking remains an impor tant element of California’s energy production, as oil peaked here in 1985. The environmental movement points to the dangers as-sociated with hydroflouric acid (an additive to the water), water allot-ments for our farmers, and water quality. Mr. Edick advised educa-tion on the topic as a fracking bal-lot measure is upcoming. Unfor tu-nately, Mr. Edick concluded with a somewhat ambiguous reference to stepping on cats, opening the door for Mr. Davies to exercise his oral skills with cat calls.
President Brett Morey strove to diver t our attention from cat calls to rabbits, and for al l the young Mjoen and Monroe chil-dren in the room shared a warm story about running over and ki l l-ing the Easter Bunny.

I have “come a long way” from a small town in Eastern Pennsylvania to “Beautiful down town” Akron Ohio to
Whittier California to New Port Beach to Temecula to Del Mar, California!!!
I spent a semester of college at the University of Copenhagen living with a Danish family whose son was in
the US living with an American family on a Rotary exchange. This is when I developed my love for travel. That
was my second “brush” with Rotary, the first being winning a story writing Rotary contest in 5th grade in Ohio!
I graduated from Whittier College, did graduate work Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine. I taught elementary
school in Orange County and I have been a certified interior designer. I’ve been successfully selling real Es-
tate for over 25 years in San Diego. My office of Coldwell Banker is in Del Mar.
I am lucky enough to have one Beautiful daughter one fabulous son in law and two adorable
grand children 1.5yrs. and 3yrs. And they live very close by!!!
I am very pleased about being a part of such an active and dynamic club as The La
Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary! What a wonderful group of people banding together to do
good in this world!
