Purpose:
Jumper cables are connected to the antenna connectors in the front panel of the RF Module (FXxx) and the other end of the jumper cables are carefully connected to the respective feeder cables. The number of cables used depends on theconfiguration.
While connecting the antenna jumper cables, consider the following guidelines:
☞ Connect the antenna cables starting from the module closest to the plinth.
☞ It is recommended to the start connecting the jumper cable from ANT (Tx/Rx) connector closest to the direction of routing.
For example, in stack installations,
– If you are routing all jumper cables to the right, then the order to be followed isANT 1, ANT 3, ANT5, ANT 2, ANT 4
and ANT 6.
– If you are routing all jumper cables to the left, then the order to be followed is ANT 5, ANT 3, ANT1, ANT 6, ANT 4 and
ANT 2.
– If you are routing 3 jumpers cable to the left and right, the order to be followed is ANT 1, ANT 2 and ANT 3 to the right
and ANT 4, ANT 5 and ANT 6 to the left of the RF Module.
☞ Antenna jumper cables can be routed out the left side, right side, or both sides. However, access to the optical and
internal power cables during maintenance and expansion is easier when all antenna jumper cables are routed to the right.☞ To avoid cabling rework, check that the unit powers on before tying down the cables.
Follow these guidelines when selecting antenna jumper cables:
• 1/2" or 3/8" jumper cables are permitted
• One end of the jumper cable must be right angle male for connection to modules (other end depends on site configuration)
• 1/2" feeder cable can be connected directly to the modules if a right angle male connectoris used. The maximum allowedfeeder cable is 1/2" with right angle connectors.
• The length should be determined based on the Flexi Multiradio BTS installation option (for example pole, wall, cabinet, 3rdparty cabinet) and the distance of the BTS from the antenna feeder line.
• Antenna jumper cables must be rated IP65.

Flexi Multiradio BTS Feederless SolutionOverview (2/2)
• For the optical cable connection can use:
• with multimode fiber cables can be up to 200 meters long
• with a single mode fiber can up to 40 km.
– The longer cables are not delivered in fixed length but are made on the field basedon the required length.
– Characteristics of the optical OBSAI interface can be adapted to needs with the useof standard optical transceivers
• For the power supply distribution concept, can be fed to RF Module :
• Through the System Module
– The 48 VDC power distribution cable can run up to 100 m for the RF module
– In this case, the System Module and the RF Module require separate over voltageprotection devices (FSEC).
• Using a remote power supply with AC or DC. – The RF module has external alarm interfaces for the power supply and other generic
alarms.

Installing Flexi System External Alarm (FSEB)Overview
• The optional Flexi System External Alarm Module (FSEB) is used when up to24 external alarm inputs and 6 control outputs need to be supported with FlexiMultiradio BTS.
• The FSEB can be installed in the following ways:
– On a wall (vertical or horizontal position)
– On a module casing in pole, wall, or stack installations using Flexi Mounting AuxiliaryBrackets (FMAA).
– In the FCIA or FCOA roof (horizontal position only)
– In Citytalk cabinets, the FSEB can be installed on top of the stack (depending onworking space) or outside of the cabinet. The box cannot be installed on the roof.
• The module also supports Flexi Cabinet Fire Detector (FCDA).
• If there is not enough space left for the FSEB or other auxiliary boxes on the FCIA,
FCOA, or the FMAA, the additional auxiliary box(es) must be installed on a wall orpole close to the BTS.
• In stack, wall or pole installations, additional FMAA brackets can also be installed ifthere are multiple plinths. Note that the distance from each box to the BTS islimited by the lengths of the cables coming from the auxiliary box.

X4104 and X4105.
e) Control outputs are open collector type. Connect a pull-up resistor (2-6 kilohms, 5
kilohms is recommended) or an opto-coupler to +5 V to ensure correct operation. The
control outputs are marked on the FSEB board with 'EXT_CO6 ... EXT_CO1‘ on X4104.
If galvanic isolation is required for the customer application, see the figure above for an example
with an opto-coupler. Follow the country-specific safety requirements.
The transistors and the serial resistors on their collectors are located in the System Module (not
in FSEB).
☞ If you use control outputs on the EACX-I port (D-Sub connector X4101), do not use the same
control outputs on the screw terminal X4104.

Installing Flexi System External Alarm (FSEB)Connecting external alarms cable
• There are two options for external alarm cables in Flexi BTS:
– Flexi System External Alarm Module (FSEB) external alarm cable
– Flexi System Alarm cable (FSAA)
• The FSEB external alarm cable is connected from the System Module to theFSEB.
• The FSAA cable connects from the System Module directly to UltraSite,ExtraTalk, or other alarm systems.
• The FSAA cable is used when an FSEB is not required.
• The FSAA cable is used when an FSEB isnot required.
• The FSAA cable connects directly toUltraSite and ExtraTalk alarm cables withthe Dconnector.
• The FSAA cable can be connected to otheralarm systems by cutting the Dconnector and connecting the wires to the terminals.
Steps:
1. Remove the connector seal from the external alarms connector in the System Module
front panel. Store the seal for later use. The seal can be stored in the plinth.
2. Route the external alarms cable through the cable entry (stack, wall and pole
installations).
3. Pull back the connector seal covering the external alarms cable connector.
4. Connect the cable to the external alarms connector.
5. Push the cable connector seal firmly in place.
6. Route and connect the other end of the external alarms cable to the external alarms
control box or to the distribution frame. If connecting to an FSEB, connect the other end of
the cable to the ESM connector in the FSEB. If connecting to an UltraSite or ExtraTalk alarm
cable, connect the other end to the cable.
7. Make sure that all connector seals are firmly in place.

Installing Flexi Power DC/DC Module 24V (FPDA)Overview
• The FPDA is an isolated 2U-high DC/DC Power Module that converts nominal 24 VDC input voltage to 48 V DC nominal output voltage and 2 kW power.
• When the BTS power load is more than 2 kW, multiple FPDAs can be installed inparallel.
• When FPDAs are used in parallel, a maximum of two DC cables can be installedtogether at each output terminal. This limitation is due to:
• The output current from the FPDA where all three are combined would exceedthe safety limits for the thickness of the DC cables provided in the delivery.
• The safety rubber boots provided in the delivery can accommodate up to twoDC cables per terminal.
• The DC output terminal bolt length can accommodate up to two DC cables perterminal

Note:
•When FPDAs are installed in parallel, the DC output cables should be installed
together at the FPDA closest to the System module.
•Two additional 4 AWG (25 mm2) cable lugs are required for each additional FPDA
used in parallel. These lugs are not included in the delivery and must be sourced
locally.
•When FPDAs are installed in parallel and a power failure occurs in a DC line, the
input voltage to the System module will likely drop below the acceptable level. If an
FPDA is overloaded with power, then the unit will shut itself down.
•In the example in Figure FPDA provisioning for configurations with three FPDAs
and two system modules (sample 1), the power draw from the System module to
the single FPDA cannot exceed 2kW.

The FPDA is delivered with two
sets of rubber boots:
• one set accommodates
cable thickness of 35-50
mm2 (2 to 1/0 AWG) for
24 V DC input. Required
cable thickness depends on
the distance and voltage
drop from the external 24 V
DC power supply.
• the other set accommodates up to two 25 mm2 (4 AWG) cables per terminal for 48 V DC
output to the System module. These boots can be used for single or dual DC cables at
each power terminal. Dual usage is required for pairing (chaining) cables when two FPDA
modules are used in parallel as shown in figure Parallel FPDAs with paired (chained) DC
cables and boots.

Installing Flexi Power Rectifier (FPRA)Principles for installing FPRx in Flexi Multiradio BTS configurations(1/2)
• The FPRx can be installed anywhere in a stack or cabinet provided that the 2 m(6.6 in.) alarm cable can be connected between the FPRx and System Module(System Module).
• In indoor cabinet (FCIA) installations, the recommended location forFPRx is:
• without batteries at the top of the cabinet, near the cabinet roof.
• with batteries near the bottom of the cabinet, in the next available rack space abovethe batteries.
• In outdoor cabinet (FCOA) installations, the recommended location forFPRx is:
• without batteries:
– If batteries are not used, only the FPRB or FPRC can be used in FCOA
– If the System Module (ESMB/C) is in the top vertical rack, install the FPRB/FPRCmodule on the lower vertical rack
– If the System Module is in the horizontal rack, install the module in the top verticalrack.
• with batteries:
– Site Support Module (FCSA) is installed inside the FCOA cabinet

• In Stack installations, the recommended location for FPRx is:
• In outdoor only the FPRC module can be used because of WDR
requirements. Flexi front and back covers must be used.
• For indoor any FPRx can be used.
• Location is the bottom of the stack.
• This allows for easier future expansion because the top sector can be
expanded without the Upgrade RF Cable Kit (EUCA).
• In wall and pole installations, the recommended location for FPRx is:
• Only the FPRC is used in wall and pole installations. Flexi front and back covers
must be used.
• The recommended location is either on the same plinth as the System Module
or on an adjacent plinth

Cabling principles in stack, wall, and poleinstallation (1/2)
• Cables are routed along the sides of the modules. Excess cabling should be tiedto clamps.
• In stack installations, cables are routed out both the left and right cable entries..
• All cables except the optical cables can be routed in either direction aslong as they do not violate the bending diameter or block access to otherused connectors.
• The optical cable must always be routed to the left . It is alsorecommended to route the internal power cable in the same path as theoptical cable for each module.
• Antenna jumper cables can be routed out the left side, right side, orboth sides. However, access to the optical and internal power cablesduring maintenance and expansion is easier when all antenna jumpercables are routed to the right.
• Internal cable entries are not typically used with Flexi Multiradio BTS.
• When preparing the external cable entries, cut a slit in the cable entry for routingthe cables.
• In wall and pole installation, cables should be routed through the bottomcable entry whenever possible.

Optional cable tunnels in stack, wall, and poleinstallation
• The optional cable tunnels can be used to hide excess cabling on theside of stack or pole configurations. Cable tunnels are not required forweather protection.
• Follow the below listed principles for the cable tunnels to fit properly:
• Route the external cables on the right side of the BTS, and tie allcabling in between the top and bottom square holes on the supportplates.
• Route the internal cables on the left side of the BTS, and tie all sidecabling as follows, using the square holes on the support plates asguides:
• For vertical routing, tie the cables in between the beginning of the
front hole and beginning of the rear hole.• For horizontal routing, tie the cables in between the top and bottom
square holes.
• Do not route internal cables through the back .
• Remove the ears from cable entries before installation

Internal power cabling principles for SystemModule (ESMB/C)
• The following main principles for internal power cabling apply to RFModule (FXxx).
• For stack and cabinet configurations, RF Modules can be numbered 1to 4 from bottom to top. The power connection ports used on theSystem Module (ESMB/C) should match the RF Modules numbering.
• In wall configurations, numbering can be from 1 to 4 from bottom to top, with the lower number for each plinth corresponding to the RF Moduleclosest to the wall (the RF Module connected directly to the plinth).
• In pole configurations, the RF Module closest to the System Moduleshould correspond with port 1 for PWR on the System Module.
• Numbering applies to optical cables and any numbering order can be
followed.• Also, it is recommended that optical and power cable numbering should
match for each RF Module, when the RF Module is powered by theSystem Module.

GSM ConfigurationWCDMA Configuration
WCDMA and GSM concurrent mode configurations
• Flexi Multiradio BTS is a multiradio BTS, which means that multiple radio technologies can be
used concurrently.
• The 3-branch RF Module supports GSM/EDGE and WCDMA simultaneously.• The System Modules are separate for GSM/EDGE and for WCDMA.
• The GSM/EDGE System Module (ESMB/C) supports up to 18 or 36 TRX capacity, that is, two 3-
branch RF Module capacity, and it has power and OPT connections for four radios (or radio
chains) or System Modules.
• In the concurrent mode, the RF Modules as well as the antenna lines can be shared between
the System Modules and different radio technologies.
• The System Modules have to be interconnected in concurrent operation.
• The Flexi Multiradio BTS is seen as a separate logical network element for different radio
technologies with common radio resources.
• In concurrent mode either ESMB/C or FSMx can be the synchronization master of Flexi
Multiradio BTS while the other is the slave.
• The operator can define the synchronization master while commissioning the BTS.

Antenna LineAntenna jumper cable requirements
Antenna jumper cable requirements:
• 1/2" or 3/8" antenna jumper cables can be used. 1/2"antenna cable connectors can be connected directly to themodule if a right angle connector is used.
• The length should be determined based on the FlexiMultiradio BTS GSM/EDGE installation option (forexample pole, wall, cabinet, 3rd party cabinet) and thedistance of the BTS from the antenna feeder line.
• Antenna jumper cables must be IP54-rated or better.
Basically, Jumper cables are low–loss and flexible, which allows easier
connection to units such as the WCDMA MHA unit without causingunnecessary stress to the connected units (vs. feeder cables).
