Chinese New Year

Caring for the Elderly P5 Camp

Total Defence Day

On 11 February, seven students from the school’s award-winning Lion Dance Troupe, in collaboration with Tan Tock Seng Hospital, celebrated Chinese New Year with the elderly at the NTUC Silvercare Centre located at Toa Payoh Lorong 1. The troupe impressed and delighted the elderly with their highly-charged performance as they ushered in the Lunar New Year. After the performance, they interacted with the elderly through an origami session. The students found the activity very meaningful and looked forward to other events that would allow them to contribute to the community.

The P5 Camp was my first camping experience away from home. During the camp, we participated in many interesting activities such as rock climbing, caving, flying fox, outdoor cooking and many more. My group was assigned to serve lunch on the first day and I was only too excited to do it. Participating in the camp activities enabled me to learn more about teamwork and perseverance. What’s more, I learnt to be independent too. I had enjoyed myself and would definitely go for such a camp again.

Ian Ducro Gerard

What I enjoyed most at the P5 Camp were the high elements. I was so eager to attempt them that I could hardly contain my excitement! During the rock-climbing activity, I was delighted as I was one of the few who managed to reach the top. The flying fox was also a huge challenge for me as it was about four storeys high! The P5 Camp was one of the most memorable school events that would be etched in my mind.

P4 Internationalisation Trip

Parent Symposium

On 11 March, our Primary 4 students went to Johor Bahru as part of the school’s internationalisation programme. The aim of the programme was to heighten students’ cultural awareness through appreciating the Malaysian kampong experience and cottage industries. It also provided an opportunity for the students to develop confidence, teamwork and responsibility through immersion in a different environment. Our students visited Kampong Muhd Amin where they watched a cultural performance and learnt more about rubber tapping and coconut husking. They also tried their hands at batik painting, making key chains using seashells and played some traditional games such as gasing and congkak. Our P4s were culturally immersed and they had an enjoyable and enriching time.

This year, to create a multi-sensorial learning experience for the students, the Science Department introduced the use of Samsung tablets for the activities. This was well-received by both the students and parents.

The school strongly believes in collaborating with parents in their children’s learning and the Parents Outreach@Sensory Park activity is just one of the many platforms the school has in partnership with parents.

Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition (SAFMC)The Amazing Flying Machine Competition was all about one of the most amazing inventions ever, planes! 12 students were selected from Primary 5 to represent the school on 7 and 14 March. Four teams: The Zooming Atoms, The Ace Pilots, Star Falcons and The Accelerators were formed and so began their exciting journey, soaring high in the skies and overcoming the turbulence faced along the way as a team.

Alden Chew from P5.5 described the whole experience as educational with a bucketful of fun while Vivian from P5.6 said that she is now inspired to be a pilot.

One of the teams, The Zooming Atoms clinched the Best Presentation Award. Congratulations!

Staff Study Trip To Australia

Shanghai Immersion Trip

To conceptualise the Learning for Life (LLP) Programme for our students, a team of staff members comprising Vice-principal, Mr Edward Wong, Mr Ignatius Lim, Miss Priscilla Kek, Miss Leong Tim Tim and Mrs Jacqueline Anthony, went on a week-long study trip to Melbourne, Australia, in June to learn the good practices on Positive Education and Student Advocacy from their Australian counterparts. The team gained ideas and meaningful insights from the Positive Schools Conference and their four school visits to Arlington Primary School (Preshil), St Margaret's School, Templestowe College and Wesley Junior School. The hospitality and generous sharing by the school leaders of the four schools were greatly appreciated.

Kheng Cheng School organised a cultural immersion trip for 40 Primary 5 students to Shanghai, China. The learning journey which took place from 28 May to 3 June provided the students with the opportunity to learn the Chinese Language through an experiential approach, while being immersed in the Chinese culture, arts and history around them. As part of the programme, the students attended lessons in a local school, Yangpu Primary School, in Shanghai. There, they had the opportunity to interact with the Chinese students in the classroom. This trip however, was not all work and no play. Besides attending school, the students also visited the silk production factory in Suzhou, West Lake and the Long Jing tea plantation in Hangzhou. The students visited the Shanghai Museum to marvel at the artefacts on display too.
