This Section specifies general requirements for materials and equipment and includes, but is not limited to, the following: 1. Products 2. Transportation, delivery, receiving and handling. 3. Storage and protection. 5. Products List. 6. Substitutions. 7. Product acceptance. 1.02 RELATED SECTIONS A. All sections affected by this section and all sections affecting this section shall be considered “ Related Sections” 1.03 PRODUCTS A. The term “product” shall mean any material, including proprietary goods, equipment or services that are incorporated into the final Works. 1. Products do not include materials, machinery and equipment used for the preparation, fabrication, conveying and erection of the Works. B. If possible, products of a similar nature shall be standardised, interchangeable and supplied by the same manufacturer. C. All products shall comply with the specifications and referenced standards, unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. 1.04 TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING A. Products shall be delivered according to the construction schedule, in order to avoid construction delays or undue storage requirements. B. Transport and handle products in a suitable manner at all times to avoid product damage. C. Deliver dry and in undamaged condition in the manufacturer’s unopened containers or packaging. D. The Contractor shall inspect shipments upon delivery, to ensure that the products: 1. Are properly labelled and identified. 2. Comply with the requirements of the Contract Documents. 3. Quantities are correct. 4. Inspect all products upon delivery and report any damage to the Engineer. a. Any products damaged during delivery, storage or installation shall be marked and set aside. b. Proposals for repair of any damaged products shall be submitted in writing to the Engineer for approval. c. No repairs to damaged products shall be attempted, without the Engineer’s approval.

    d. Any damaged products deemed unsuitable for repair by the Engineer shall be removed from site and replaced at the Contractors expense.

    E. Comply with specific transportation and handling requirements specified in individual Specification Sections.

    1.05 STORAGE AND PROTECTION A. Store products in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, with seals and labels intact

    and legible. 1. Store sensitive products in weather-tight enclosures.

    2. Where product manufacturer recommends storage under controlled temperatures, the Contractor must provide an enclosed, insulated, cool store maintained at the proper temperature, 24 hours a day.

    B. Exterior Storage of Fabricated Products 1. Place on supports above ground. 2. Cover products subject to deterioration with canvas tarpaulins. C. Store products so as to allow ready access for inspection. 1. Date of manufacture and date of expiry shall be clearly visible. 2. The Contractor shall periodically inspect the products to ensure that they are stored

    under required conditions and are free of damage or deterioration. 1.06 PRODUCTS LIST

    A. Products shall be delivered according to the construction schedule in order to avoid

    construction delays or undue storage requirements. B. Submit four copies of a list of all products which are proposed for installation, not later than

    30 calendar days after the start of the Contract. 1. Include the name of manufacturer and supplier, the trade name, and the model number

    of each product. C. The Contractor shall ensure that the listed products comply with the requirements of the

    Contract Documents. D. Product list shall be arranged according to Specification Section number. 1. Include the specification title and the paragraph number. E. The Engineer will notify the Contractor in writing of any product deemed to be unacceptable. 1. Notification shall be made no later than 30 days after submission of the products list. 2. The Engineers objection or failure to object to a listed item shall not constitute a waiver

    of the requirements of the Contract Documents. 1.07 SUBSTITUTIONS

    A. The Contractor must submit requests for substitution within 60 days of starting the contract.

    1. After that date, substitutions will only be considered when a product becomes unavailable, due to no fault of the Contractor.

    2. Document each request with complete date substantiating that the proposed substitution complies with the Contract Documents.

    B. Requests for substitutions will only be considered if the Contractor: 1. Has investigated the proposed product and has determined that it meets or exceeds, in

    all respects, the specified product. 2. Will provide the same warranty for the substitution as the specified product. 3. Will co-ordinate the installation requirements of the substitution and will make all changes

    necessary for the Work to be complete in all respects. a. The cost of such changes shall be at the Contractors sole expense.

    4. Waives any claims for additional costs which may subsequently become apparent. C. Substitutions will not be considered when:

    1. Substitution is indicated or implied on shop drawings or product data submittals without

    separate written request complying with the above requirements. 2. When acceptance will require substantial revisions to the Contract Documents.

    D. The Engineer will determine the acceptability of the proposed substitution and will notify the Contractor of acceptance or rejection, in writing, within a reasonable time. 1. If a substitution is not accepted, the Contractor must provide the specified product.

    1.08 PRODUCT ACCEPTANCE A. All products shall be tested as required by the Specification. 1. Product testing shall be by an approved site laboratory, independent laboratory or a

    recognised testing organisation, as specified in Document II-2 2. The Contractor shall be responsible for all costs associated with product testing including

    labour, transportation and the cost of the test itself, except as specified elsewhere in this contract.

    3. Samples shall be taken at the place of origin, place of fabrication or from the site, as required by the Engineer.

    a. Samples after testing shall remain the property of the Contractor. b. Samples used for testing may only be incorporated into the Work with the written

    approval of the Engineer. 4. The Contractor shall provide all necessary facilities required for on site testing of

    products. 5. The Contractor shall ensure that products are made available for testing sufficiently in

    advance of intended use, to allow adequate time for testing and evaluation. a. Delays resulting from the time taken to test a product shall not be acceptable as

    cause for a claim. B. Prior to final inspection, all components, systems and subsystems shall be tested, to

    demonstrate compliance with the specified performance requirements. PART 2 - PRODUCTS Not used. PART 3 - EXECUTION Not used.
