The angling event for the 2014 NSW Police Games was proudlyhosted by the NSW Fishing Club Inc. The event was again heldon the waters of the Shoalhaven and Crookhaven Rivers and toSea. Greenwell Point was the base for the event and againproved to be a prime location. The competition ran over 48hours from 12md on Sunday 16th to 12md on Tuesday 18thMarch 2014. Competition catered for anglers fishing Deep Sea,Estuary and Land based (Rock & Beach).
50 anglers registered for this year’s event, who fishedalongside 6 of our Junior Anglers. These junior anglers tooksenior medals just to remind the old salts they are not to beignored when it comes to competition. The same is to be saidfor our lady anglers who once again handed it to some of theblokes. The weather and tides played a major factor in thisyear's event with all anglers who fished in 2013 finding thefishery different this year. Although the mornings started off inperfect conditions unseasonal north easterlies changing tostrong westerly winds combined with the large tides madeconcentrations of fish hard to find. Areas that were productivelast year did not produce this year. This saw the anglersmoving position in the search of fish. Many anglers ended upfishing up the Shoalhaven arm of the system.
The majority of anglers caught fish, although numbers weredown on last year. Making up for this the quality of fish was animprovement on last year. A catch and release format wasutilised with the majority of fish caught returned to the water.
Although the high winds hampered the offshore anglers anumber of boats managed to go to sea. Their results weremixed with most fishing the close in more sheltered waters.
The results were as follows:

Another fantastic day was had by all. No special guests this year,we were hoping Glen McGrath would be back but his schedulewouldn’t allow it.
It was pleasing to see nearly all the services represented – Police,Ambulance, Fire Service, Corrections, Customs and Army. FraserHindry proved that all Firies don’t go to the gym and are buff! Heshoots extremely well. The Busst family again regaled us with aBBQ fit for royalty.
NSW corrections are increasing their numbers each year, its greatto see. As for furthest travelled, Ian Davis wins again, our VictorianPolice Colleague again travelled up for the day from Ballarat!

Road Race – Penrith International Regatta
40 riders attended the start on a beautiful sunny morning with nowind to hinder the riders. This year we decided to send the oldboys (over 40’s) off first mainly because they always seem tocatch the young pups. Two minutes after the over 40’s left theunder 40’s were on their way.
It became obvious within the first 5 klm’s of the 40k race that itwas not going to be a stroll in the park with Lang and Noolangoing off the front and breaking away from the peloton. Thesetwo men then worked well together and were able to stay off thefront to the finish unchallenged.
The peloton just couldn’t co-ordinate themselves in time to haulthem in. The race was at a good pace with the front groupfinishing with an average speed of just under 40 k/p/h. With theold boys running at this pace the young pups didn’t stand achance of catching them.
There was one notable effort from the young pups when Bellyattacked at the 30klm mark and was off the front for a lap but withno-one to work with he slowly came back to the bunch.
In the ladies, it was another Beer V McCartney affair. This timeBeer got the better of latter to finish strong in the road race.

We hope to see many more participants/teams from NSWPolice and other emergency services in Wollongong 2015.
Thursday 27th March 2014 was very wet and the blustery cold windgave all the participants and volunteers the desire to be elsewhereespecially at 6am. The picturesque location of Botany Bay couldn’timprove the mood of everyone, however the event must go on. Thewonderful volunteers were suitability attired for a very miserablemorning and conveyed to their desired locations; the participantsprepared themselves by eventually removing their warm clothingand after the briefing, the race was commenced.
The beautiful and scenic Botany Bay foreshore was truly magic. The route to the south ensured they twice crossed the CaptainCook Bridge, then all the way to the Sydney International Airportbefore returning to Peter Depena Reserve and the warmth of theBBQ within a picnic shelter.
This event is very volunteer intensive, I know that the participantsand myself as the Coordinator, wish to thank everyone of thembraving the terrible conditions in assisting to make this ansuccessful event. After the event all persons enjoyed a wonderfulBBQ breakfast cooked by the NSW Police who came down to“officiate at the event”.

Cross Country Mountain Bike Race –Yellowmundee.
25 riders took on this year’s gruelling 7 kilometre course. The course involved 4 laps of technical climbs, river crossings, bumpy descents and fast flowing single track. From the onsetthere was a cracking pace set by Fire Fighter James Bolandand the Police Steve Bell. These two riders were the only tworiders to go under 18 min laps. They were so fast that in factBoland and Bell finished their fourth lap just minutes off someriders who were completing just their second.
All riders performed on the day did themselves proud especiallythe ladies who continued to battle with each other throughoutthe entire race, with McCartney just getting the better of Beer inthe end.
The outright winners were as follows: 1st Boland (Fire) 2nd Bell (Police) and 3rd Fraser (Fire). See the below table forall age group results.

OPEN WATER SWIMMING (1.5KM SWIIM)
The NSW Police Netball Club held theirannual netball competition on Saturday22nd March 2014 at the Blacktown LeisureCentre Stanhope, Blacktown.
At the commencement of 2014 there was agreat deal of interest from participants andas a result of these enquiries I anticipatedabout 8 teams would compete in the NSWPolice Games (as a warm up for the AP&ESGames later in the year). Unfortunately asthe date got closer a number of the teamswithdrew from the competition. Thisinevitably resulted in the lowest number ofteams participating in the NSW PoliceNetball Games since I had commencedorganising this event some 30 years ago.
In total there were 4 teams participating inthis years competition, two teams fromCorrective Services and two NSW Policeteams.
The Castle Hill Police team went throughthe competition undefeated and inevitablywon the gold, with a team from NewcastleLocal Area Command “Pink Caviar” taking
the silver. The two Corrective ServicesTeams played each other with “Girls DoingTime” taking the Bronze Medal narrowlyagainst “South Coast”.
Although on the day of the competition wehad a couple of injuries, after some medicalassistance all the girls recovered with littleor no serious injury.
The Netball Club is now looking forward toand encouraging teams to organiseparticipants for the next Police Games tobe held in Wollongong in 2015.

The Pistol shooting event was once again contested at theBlacktown Pistol Club on Saturday the 16th March. A lot of newfaces bolstered the numbers. It would appear younger shootersare once again competing in the games which is a realturnaround from years gone by. This was great for the contestingof medals within the shooting ranks.
The day started very pleasantly with cooler temperatures andthen heating up in the afternoon to 30 degrees plus. So with theweather heating up, so to were the competitors who were allbattling for the top places. Just after the last shots where fired theheavens opened and we conducted our medal presentations, undercover.
A number of shooting age categories had extremely closescorings, with only 1 or 2 point separating 3 shooters, for placing. With some 35 shooters competing in all age categories, it wasgreat to see so many familiar faces again.
A great day was had by all. I thank our VIP’s for their assistancein scoring and other shooters in assisting in the days activities.Without your help it would not be such a great day. Next year ifyou’re thinking of competing “DO”. Pistol 2015 heads toWollongong.

On Monday, 17 March, 2014, through to 19 March, 2014, theNSW Police Sailing Club held it’s annual Sydney Regatta inconjunction with the NSW Police Games 2014 at the MiddleHarbour Yacht Club, which it has been doing since 1985.
Ten yachts from as far as Newcastle in the north and Botany Bayin the south were used to race in three divisions. Vessels rangedfrom 30 foot to 47 foot in length. This enabled over 50 competitorsfrom as far away as Coolongatta and Melbourne to compete.
Agencies represented included but not limited to: NSW Police,NSW Ambulance, NSW Fire, NSW Rural Fire, Aviation RescueFire Fighting Service, NSW Corrective Services and RAAF.
This Regatta comprised of seven races over three days, whichallowed the fleet to race on the best harbour in the world and viewclose up Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, FortDenision, South Head... At the end of Monday and Wednesdayracing a BBQ was held at Middle Harbour Yacht Club and onTuesday night the annual dinner was held overlooking the watersof Middle Harbour & The Spit at MHYC.
On the last day it was organised through NSW Police Legacy thata family who had lost a father and a member of the NSW PoliceForce were able to “crew” on two yachts and enjoy theexcitement and competitiveness of yacht racing and thefriendship on board.
A fundraising raffle for the NSWPSC was also held during theregatta with prizes from Boatie Afloat, Bourke Marine and SignalOne. Their generosity and the assistance from NSW Police GamesCommittee and Middle Harbour Yacht Club enables the NSWPolice Sailing Club to continue to hold such wonderful events.
