Who can tell me what season we are in right now? Fall? What is another word we use for Fall? What happens in nature in Autumn? Today, we are going to make drawings of the leaves that change colors. For the background, we are going to use lines to draw ripples, to give the appearance that the leaf has fallen in water.

-Explain how to trace leaves.-Explain the difference between warm and cool colors.-Explain what complimentary colors are.-Explain how to outline the shape several times to create effect.

Modeling-Show example of finished project.-Give brief demonstration of artmaking steps.

Art Making (Inductive)Supplies Steps

-White square shaped paper-Red, Orange, Yellow, and Brown construction paper-Pencil-Thin markers-Crayons-Glue stick-Leaf stencils

-Students will trace a leaf using a pencil in the center of the white paper.-Using a marker, students will go over the pencil tracing.-Varying between a one lighter and one darker shade of a cool color, students will outline the leaf shape continuously, leaving some white space, to create a rippled effect. Students will continue this until entire paper is filled.-Students will color the leaf using a warm color that is the compliment of the color they chose for the background.-Students will mount their piece on a piece of construction paper that is the same color at his or her leaf.
