How To Set Up My Smart Classroom DevicesYour SMART CLASSROOM would have the following:

A. Notebook (Brand: Mecer)B. Activate MS Office (Microsoft Office Word/Excel…)C. Interactive Device (Brand: Mimio)D. Visualizer/ Document Viewer (Brand: Aver)E. Wireless Data Projector (Brand: Infocus)F. Useful links (Brand: Mimio / Aver)

A. How to setup your Notebook for the first time

Unpack your Notebook1. Clip the battery pack into the designated slot2. Connect the Notebook charger to the wall socket (AC) 3. Switch on the Notebook

Setting up your Notebook for the first time1. Switch on the Notebook - Message will come up: Setup is checking for Video Performance/

“Preparing Desktop”2. Windows 7 Professional

o South Africao English (South Africa)o US or UK (for the choice of language)o click Next

3. Choose a usernameo Type in either the School Name#1, #2… or Teacher Nameo This will be used to identify you or your school in futureo Click Next

4. Set a password for your accounto Leave blank for now, you can change it later if necessaryo Click Next

5. Please read the license termso Click bottom left corner to accepto Click Next

6. Help protect your computer…o Click “Use recommended settings”

7. Review your time and date settingso (UTC+02:00) Harare, Pretoriao Date and time (Check the date/time or set it correctly)o Click Next

8. Join a wireless networko Click Skip for now

9. Windows 7 Professional is finalizing your settings10. Desktop will show 5 users, one of the users will be the user name

that you gave in step 3 above – that will be the user you are going to use.

Step 1

Switch on computer

Step 2

Choose settings as displayed in picture

Step 3

School needs to decide if it will be named by the School name #1 – 10 depending on the number of

classrooms or by the Teacher’s name

Step 4

Leave it blank for now, you can set a password later

Step 5

Click left bottom corner to accept and Next

Step 6

Click Recommended settings and Next

Step 7

Time zone Harare, Pretoria and check time/date and Next

Step 8

Skip this if you are not sure and ask your Internet administrator at school if you have Wireless

Step 9

You have completed your initial installation of the Notebook/laptop

Step 10

You will be using the user account as setup in Step 3

It is advised NOT to use the notebook on mains power all the time, but to run off the battery power until a recharge is needed.

B. How to activate your Microsoft Office (Word/Excel…)

Step 1Make sure you are connected to the internet.

Go to My Computer, click on All Programs, Look for Yellow Folder: Microsoft Office and Open Word

Step 2

Microsoft Office Activation Wizard : click In want to activate over the Internet. Click Next

Step 3

Wait while the activation is busy

Step 4

Activation is completed. Click Close

C. How to install the interactive device (Mimio device)

Step 1

Click on the Windows Start button - bottom left, then go to Computer

Step 2

On left, click on Computer, then Windows (C), you will see the file Apps

Step 3

Open Apps, Click on Mimio Studio, on right click on mimiostudio

Step 4

Click on setup and read the screens, Click install, accept license, next, next, next, finish…

You are required to make 3 clicks:Welcome = Next,License Agreement = accept+Next,InstallShield Wizard = Next

You are required to make 3 clicks:Ready to Install = Next,Installing = Install,InstallShield Wizard Complete = Finish

MOST IMPORTANT

It asks you to connect your Mimio Device HUB to activate the software OTHERWISE you will only have a free limited version of the software

Take the Mimio “white” HUB out of Mimio box and plug it into the laptop to finish the installation of the software. (it looks like a USB flash drive stick)

Step 7

You have successfully installed the Mimio Software.

BUT you now need to charge your Mimio Device with the grey cable, plugged in and connected to electrical plug point for 24 hours. Please insert pen stylus into the cradle while charging.

Step 8

To open Mimio you need to look for the icon, or right click and PIN to TASKBAR and then access it on your Start Menu/Task Bar

D. How to open the Visualizer application (Aver document viewer)

Step 1

The software is preloaded on the laptops and the icon is on the Desktop. Right click on icon and click

Pin to Taskbar

Step 2

When you open the Sphere software and you get theimage below, you did not connect the

visualizer with the USB cord to the computer.

E. How to connect to the Wireless Data Projector (Infocus)

Step 1

Switch on your Data Projector – you should see this image below

Step 2

If not, press the source button on your remote and scroll to the WLAN setting and press select

Step 3

Open your EZ Display icon on your desktop

Step 4

Click on Auto Search / Start

Step 5

Type in the Passcode you see on your data projector display as in Step 1

Step 6

Note the ALL button turns green. Click Compatibility and minimize your EZ Display

window

Please note: if you close the EZ Display window you break the connection and need to redo Step 1 – 5

THE RESULT: You should now be able to see your Computer screen on the whiteboard as projected by the Data Projector. You should also be able to use

the Interactive Whiteboard features and the Visualizer features.
