Report on International Convention in Reno – Doug Baxtero The power point presentation is available on the Facebook page.

Jr. Civitan report – Junior Leader/Jeanne o Jeanne delivered a message for Emmy Gore, the incoming Junior

Civitan Governor.o At the Junior Civitan convention in Tupelo, our past Junior Governor

Iman Shere received a Shropshire scholarship, our junior district was honored as were our two Charleston area clubs. A fantastic year.

o Jeanne noted that the Sno-Do/Governors update now requires a $200 registration fee along with required $1,800 in fundraising. (Our 50/50 raffle raised the $200 when Doug Baxter won and donated total funds to Juniors, and another Civitan donated the $20 balance.)

o The Dance-a-Thon structure has also changed to make it shorter and a part of the annual convention.

Fun and fellowship houro Participants broke into groups of 6-8 to share one of the following games

or activities Made four fleece blankets for “My Very Own Blanket”, a local

charity with national reach that distributes these to children in foster care. (See link on Facebook)

Made 30 artistic “Get Well” cards for patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Played “Apples to Apples” Played “Yahtzee” Played “Scattergories” Played “Catch Phrase”

o Everyone took the opportunity to do something new with someone new. This is a great way to build fellowship and fun at any meeting of club members.

Megan Mindel, our International Membership Specialist, presented new ideas during lunch. She used the West Columbus Club and the “in process” Capital City Club as examples

o Her “Club Building Plan” includes a checklist of steps for identifying the purpose, structure, and member prospects.

o Her “Intentional Recruiting” checklist is directed to identifying the “Why?” for each member and for your overall club. The goal is to identify the reasons that have brought your club together and to identify others who are most likely to respond to those reasons (Why’s)

Some very moving “Why’s” were shared.o Her “Civitan Recruiting Toolkit” is available for each club that completes

and documents their “Intentional Recruiting” checklist. It is a custom marketing tool that includes updated flyers and application forms, social media samples, and specific recommendations from Megan. Take advantage of this offer.

Bob Jones, Incoming Civitan International Presidento Bob spoke of the dramatic changes and adjustments that have come

from the change in leadership to Scarlet Thompson. A lot of financial weaknesses have been identified and are being addressed with staffing and expense changes. There is a tremendous emphasis on transparency and on stewardship. There is also an effort to update our flyers, forms and social media. A new “Light the Way” donation solicitation has been initiated. We are seeking a new fundraiser as the Claxton financial support has decreased and candy box sales are also down.

Brenda Lantz – Audience Participation Activityo Everyone participated in singing along with “Getting to Know You” from

“The King and I”. Once again, Brenda created special Civitan lyrics to go along with the tune. It was a “spirited” a cappella performance.

o Brenda also led a “get acquainted exercise” where each person posted a “cloud note” with something about themselves that they wanted to share. Each person selected a “cloud note” and tried to find that person. There was a lot of sharing and no lost clouds.

o Brenda also prepared a word game to solicit words related to fellowship beginning with specific letters.

Carol Wolters - International Liaison o Addressed several new and existing fundraising efforts by Civitan

International. o Discussion of the legal/tax structure of clubs and how it effects

fundraising and donations.o Look for information on our Facebook and Web sites.

Carol Wolters – Cardinal District Scholarshipo Carol noted that we raised enough in new, funded Scholarship Fellow

contributions this year to more than replace the funds used for this year’s scholarship to Iman Shere. (Way to Go Civitans.)

o Carol announced the formation of a Cardinal District Scholarship Fellow that was funded by individual donors in honor of Teresa Lupton of the Mansfield Club.

Meeting adjourned Dan Maloney and Jamelia Rabsatt of the Capital City Civitan Club led a

“spirited” karaoke session that lasted until after 5:00pm and even included some dancing. Dan is “professional grade” in leading karaoke with a selection of over 1,200 songs and all the equipment. He even distributed “guidelines” for Mastering the Art of Karaoke.
