-FOODCHAIN: Cyber Physical Systems and Smart Integrated Systems Assisting the Whole Value Chain of Healthy Food and Nutrition
-Main Contacts: Jon Mabe, Aitor Arnaiz, IK4-Tekniker (Spain)[email protected] ; [email protected]
-Relevant Markets- Food&Beverages (cropping, distribution, process, retail)- Health (nutrition)
(Food & Drink sector represents 13% of EU manufacturing turnover)(EU – world largest F&D exporter – 17,5%)(Agrifood logistics: 20% of total EU road transport)
What is the market relevance?• User centric food&beverages• Paradigm shift:
• General: from standard products to personal services • In particular(Case 1) - from food & beverages to nutrition service
- food & beverage companies – new bussiness model based on services- Value chain companies – enabled for these new services
What is the innovation?• Additive information on food labelsWhat is the business impact?• Added value information with very low (almost zero) unitary cost• New Bussiness generation (services)• Opportunity for New Devices
Project DescriptionFoodChain holds a holistic view of the value chain of human nutrition, considering from food in original state to food cooking at home. FoodChain considers that CPS could play an important role for assisting all stages, from food cropping to home cooking.
FoodChain objective is to create a Cloud-based Additive Labelling through all food preparation stages. Different processes in the food&beverages value chain will be compatible with the FoodChain labelling approach for either uploading or downloading relevant information.
As regards the economical feasibility of the idea, the cost of the e-label must be kept to the minimum, and it should make the most of the cloud services for managing and processing them.
One of the main challenges behind the idea is to generate the complete HW +SW + policy framework for upgrading the different processes and services of the food&beverage value chain (cropping, processing& manufacturing, distribution, management, retail, and cooking).
Therefore, the FoodChain approach proposes the development of a whole HW&SW solution encompassing: smart devices for assisting the raw food stage, smart devices and services to be installed in the processing& manufacturing centers, services and systems for upgrading distribution and retail, user centric applications, big data management, home systems for cooking assistance….
