The Urology department welcomes you to the Medical Doctorate in Urology

program. We are committed to medical student education and continuously strive to

This handbook presents information guide and logbook activity of this degree

administered by the urology departement, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams

University.

II - Mission Statement:

The mission of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University is “The

preparation of a competent graduate, who is able to compete on both national

and regional levels, capable of lifelong learning, training and tutoring, while

adhering to the codes of practice of medical health services and ethics. The

The aim of this program is to develop competent urologists with high

professional standards, who are well prepared to face, respond to, and solve

various urological problems. The graduate will be trained to implement evidence

based practice, and to cope with the future challenges through life long learning

surgical cases.



By the end of the course the candidate will be able to

The surgical anatomy, applied physiology and pathology of the genito -urinary

system, relevant to: clinical examination, interpretation of special investigations,

understanding of disordered function and principles of the surgical treatment of

congenital and acquired genito-urinary disease and injuries in the following areas:

I. Penis: hypospadias phimosis, paraphimosis, balanitis, circumcision

(indications and contra-indications, including complications and their

treatment)

II. Inguinoscrotal area: cryptorchidism, varicocele, hydrocele, acute scrotum

(torsion, etc.).

III. Bladder: exstrophy (bladder, cloacal); urachal anomalies.

IV. Trauma: kidney, ureter, bladder with adequate knowledge of pelvic

fractures and urethral injuries.

V. Congenital conditions: PUJ , reflux, megaureter and cystic diseases of the

kidney

VI. Neoplastic conditions: Wilm,s tumer, neuroblastoma ,rhabdomyosarcoma

VII. Intersex Anomalies: This will include patients with adrenogenital

syndrome (variants, enzyme deficiencies, diagnosis and treatment), mixed

gonadal dysgenesis, true and pseudo-hermaphroditism, testicular

feminization syndrome and its variants, and gonadal tumours

V- General Information

1 – Monitoring Of Training and Submission Of Training Reports

You must keep proper and updated records in your logbook to reflect the

activities encountered in your training. Your logbook must be duly endorsed by an

authorized signatory at the end of each semester.

You will be continuously assessed by your supervisors, in consultation

with head of department. An assessment will be submitted within 2 weeks of

completion of each semester.

2 - Miscellaneous Information:

Injury and/or Blood or Body Fluid Exposure:

During regular working hours, you should immediately report an exposure

incident to infection control. If exposure occurs after regular working hours or

during a weekend or holiday; please call the infection control representative or ER.

For injury, please report to the Emergency Department.

Please also be sure to inform the supervisors of an exposure incident and/or

injury.

3 - Action Completion Of Clinical Training

Once all training sessions are completed the log book should be signed by

the senior supervisor and the head of the department and then should be submitted to

post graduate Secretariat.
