    Research

    Research Experience

    31 Years of Research Experience

General Research Interests: Materials Chemistry and Catalysis

Development of newer strategic materials and their effective use in health and environment is in the

most frontier areas of research. We have been pursuing research on design and development of

materials comprising a wide cross section of materials such as metal oxides, metal phosphates,

metal sulfate, modified metal oxides and phosphates, perovskites, anionic clays, zeolites, nano

metal/metal oxide/complex promoted mesoporous materials, gold catalyst, natural occurring

materials such as manganese nodules, manganese nodules leached residues, manganese oxides of

natural origin and cationic clays etc. Some of the current research interest and activities are as

    follows:

    Energy Materials

Fabrication of a photocatalytic reactor for water splitting and degradation of organic/

inorganic pollutants using metal tantalates and metal oxynitrides.

Design of gold promoted modified (rare earth, iron, sulfur-nitrogen) titania for low

    temperature CO oxidation.

    Environmental Materials

Designing of a catalytic oxidation device for destruction of volatile organic compounds

    (VOCs) over perovskite-type compounds.

Development of lanthanum based perovskite-type oxides as catalysts and cathode

    materials.

Photocatalytic decomposition of organic and inorganic pollutants, low temperature CO

    oxidation, VOCs decomposition

Development of adsorbants such as activated and nanoporous alumina, ferrihydrites,

hydrotalcites, manganese nodules and leached residues for the removal of selenite,

fluoride, Cr (VI) and phosphate from aqueous system.

    Advanced Functional Materials

Sulphate promoted zirconia and Mn/Fe promoted sulphated zirconia for isomerisation of n-

butane, nitration of aromatics and substituted aromatics, esterification of carboxylic acid,

oxybromination of phenol, alkylation of benzene to cumene.
