My grandma is going deaf. I want to become a teacher of the deaf and DL is the only way I could learn American Sign Language.
I was curious to see what modern technology could do for me and my education. Also, I have always been interested and passionate about poetry.
I've taken all the previous French classes at Schalmont ( I, II, III ) and I knew I would get a new experience with distance learning. – And I got college credit for it. It's also nice to hear different opinions from different areas of the state.
I took DL because it was the only option in order to get college credit for political science. - I was looking into a career in journalism, and this particular class was the most challenging. - Philosophy is only offered in my school as a distance learning class.
I was interested in learning another programming language and seeing the technology used in the DL lab. - It was the only way to get an Agriculture class in my school.
I was interested in learning more about theater and I found learning with other students from other schools was interesting. - I took DL because I enjoy interacting with others, and the interacting helps us to learn.

I liked that even though we weren’t in the same room, we were treated as if wewere. - You have the opportunity to meet a variety of students and this type of learning encourages you to speak. - I enjoyed the opportunity to work with students from other schools who have the same interests as me.
I met people from different areas, and took a course my school wouldn’t have otherwise offered. - I liked the responsibility it gave me. It felt more like college. - I like how everyone, near or far away, had a common link. We all liked history.
The courses offered are far more varied than those offered in regular classes. –I just enjoyed the class and I am looking forward to furthering my education during college with sign language.
I learned that you don’t have to be afraid to talk to other schools throughout this class and now I’m not frightened to speak up in class.
I liked everything, my instructor was good, the other class was very friendly. – Mr. Knaggs is a very good teacher. I learned a lot and the class was very interesting and entertaining. - It gave me and opportunity to take a course and learn a language that I wouldn't have been able to without distance learning.

Sometimes the connection is bad or there are technical issues that take away from class time. - Apart from the occasional technical glitches there wasn't anything I didn’t like about DL.
The volumes sometimes were too loud. - Sometimes the mics would crackle.
It seemed like the teacher favored us over her school when asking questions and giving reports. – Our teacher did not seem as if he cared about our grades or any student that wasn't at the host site.
I didn’t like the different treatment of home and away students, and it was hard to make up missed up assignments.
Sometimes the other schools were too loud or soft or rude during the class. - Cell phone use by other students messed with the communications for brief moments.
I didn’t like the phone interference and other schools having issues with their volume.
Substitutes were not adequate. - The abundance of notes and not as much hands on as I wanted. - School schedules didn't always match up

I don't think that there is much that could be changed, except with the sound system.
The technology was great, although sometimes the students abused the the microphones.
Maybe If there could be field trips where students from both schools could get together and just talk and get to know everyone.
The teacher should be able to figure out a way to talk to us even when if we are not in class.
Having teachers who can give equal time to all the schools.
I suggest that you only get students who want to learn.
I would suggest a more organized schedule when one school in the class does not have school.
A lot of paper is wasted, figure out a more efficient way to get info between schools.

I wasn't much different than a regular class except that if felt like you were more open to hearing other peoples ideas. - I was surprised by how easy it was to interact and how much it felt like a normal classroom.
What surprised me about Distance Learning was how easy it was. You show up to do the work, participate in class get good grades. That is what surprised me.
The clarity of the audio from the other schools. - Some of the facilities and stuff we got to use such as Elmo to show the other school our work.
I was surprised at how easy it is to understand kids from other schools and how extremely comfortable I was communicating with them.
How well everyone behaves, I thought it would be chaos for the teachers but the kept us in line.
How similar the learning environment was to a class at my school even though the teacher wasn't there. - How I could speak like I was in a normal classroom and the teacher could hear and see me.

I felt like our teacher gave out assignments before my school arrived to class. She blatantly gave special attention to her own students while not answering questions we had.
I wish our teacher could have helped all classes equally instead of only helping her own class and leaving the rest of the classes to fend for themselves.
I think she could have made things easier with projects and emailing.
I wish our teacher made it easier to contact him.
I wish she spent time teaching not just reading the book to us.
I wish our teacher came to our school more often.
I wish there was better discipline at the other sites.

She was always understanding when there were sound problems and would try to adjust volume and make it reasonable for the class.
Sometimes the system would act up and it took patience to compensate for the frustrations. She understands DL and is a great teacher.
He made sure to include all of the schools in every discussion. Sometimes we couldn't hear and he fixed the volume.
She visited the schools for a day and gave us presentations that mandated communication between the school sites. - He came to our school and taught a class from here! We got to meet him and it shows he cares.
Repeatedly asked the other schools if they needed help and occasionally taught from our classroom instead of hers. - She sent books, tests, homework, etc. when we needed them. - He gave me an email address to ask him additional questions.
She told students to send their work by any means possible, if the fax didn't work, try emailing it; if that doesn't work put it up on the screen, etc.
