April is Autism Awareness

Month. Did you know Sunshine

Foundation is the only national wish

granting organization that answers dreams

for children with severe autism as well as

children who are nonverbal? Steven, pictured

at left, was referred to Sunshine Foundation by a

different children’s charity that, unlike us, will not

answer dreams for children who have severe autism

or are nonverbal. All children deserve to find some

happiness as they face their daily obstacles and that is

just one of many things that sets us apart!

Left:

Steven is 5 years old and diagnosed with severe autism.

He is waiting for his dream of receiving his own iPad to

come true. Steven is nonverbal but lit up when he had the

opportunity to try a friends iPad. His mom felt this dream

would bring so much happiness into his life!

You can help make Steven’s and other children’s dreams come

true when you donate at www.sunshinefoundation.org!

Christopher is 16 years

old and diagnosed with

cerebral palsy and

hydrocephalus. He has

just traveled to Central

Florida on his dream

come true trip and stayed

at Sunshine Foundation’s

Dream Village! His mom

felt the trip made his pain

and discomfort of his

condition decrease while

spending time in sunny

Central Florida.

“It made him feel more relaxed and

he was much more talkative!”

Tori, reached out to us on

Facebook. Tori received

a dream 20 years ago

when she was 4 years old

and facing major skull

reconstruction surgery as

a result of being diagnosed

with craniosynistosis

syndrome. She writes,

“It will be 20 years since my wish to meet

A Top Rated Charity!

Make dreams come true when you donate at www.sunshinefoundation.org.

Dear Volunteers, Donors and Friends of Sunshine Foundation,

National Volunteer Appreciation Week is celebrated in April and I wanted to take this

opportunity to express just how deeply appreciated and near to our hearts every one of you

are. While I had worked as the Sunshine Foundation Administrator for over twenty years,

I knew in 2009, when I assumed the role of President, that my life would be forever changed.

What I could never have foreseen was the impact that having such a special network of

Dream Makers would make on my life. Thank you for your dedicated efforts towards making

dreams come true and for your friendship and support. Sunshine Foundation would not be possible without truly kind

and caring people like you who have become advocates for the children we serve and who help to bring so much

happiness into the lives of our deserving children.

I have started a blog to highlight the stories of the wonderful children we serve as well as the Dream Makers

that have come into my life to help make dreams come true. Please read and let me know what you think at

sunshinewithintheheart.blogspot.com

The Dream Village celebrated the arrival of spring with the Annual Spring Family Fair. The day featured great food,

music and family activities. We were also excited to welcome special guests the Swamp Brothers!

place and there is so much out in the

world that he has yet to experience!”

Sunshine Foundation extends our sincere thanks to Reed

Technology and Information Services who established a

program that offers their employees the opportunity to volun-

teer during their work day in the community. Sunshine Foundation

has been lucky enough to host multiple groups of RTIS volunteers

throughout the year! Your company can also sponsor volunteer work

days to help Sunshine Foundation make dreams come true! For more

information email [email protected].

dreams for children in need!

Bob Dotson’s American Story, A Lifetime Search for Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary

Things shares the story of Christina, Bill Sample and the Sunshine Foundation!

"Christina Wilson got more than she dreamed. A couple of years af-

ter the meeting with Minnie Mouse, her leukemia vanished. In 1980,

only one child in five survived cancer, but Christina grew up to be a

healthy adult. ‘I believe that trip changed everything,’ Christina told

me the day she brought her own baby to show Bill.”

Sunshine Foundation welcomes Adrian Jones to the

National Board of Directors. Adrian Jones is the

General Manager of LEGOLAND Florida and the

Vice President of Merlin Entertainments Inc. USA.

Adrian was instrumental in last year’s cottage

renovation at the

Dream Village, and the

LEGOLAND Florida

ticket promotion that

raised over $25,000 for

Sunshine Foundation.

Kailyn, 3 years old and diagnosed with Heart Disease,

recently visited the Dream Village with her family.

Kailyn’s favorite part?

"The Legoland Cottage! What an amazing

place! This place has been a kids dream come

true, having toys, Legos everywhere and an

Xbox for her to play with her brothers has really

made her well!" - Kailyn’s Mom
