36 Supervisors from OPD/P & U and OS & E Begin ILM 2 Programme

Learning about the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM)

When several supervisors retired OPD decided there was an urgent business need for Supervisory training for 36 of their employees. They approached Head of Career Development, Peter J Conway and he asked Neil Porter, Training Specialist, Supervisory Development, to work with the team at OPD to put the programme together.

Neil explained “The request came in on 7th June and by 4th July the 14-day programme was ready!” Several of the delegates attended a briefing session with Neil on 26th July where he explained the format of the programme and the requirements in terms of the 8 written assignments and 2 assessed presentations

as well as attending all 14 days in class to be awarded the Internationally recognised Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team Skills. Peter Conway added “We are still evaluating the business needs for Leadership and Management Training for next year but as we remain an ILM centre it made sense to run this programme for the OPD team. ”Ali Kareem, Superintendent South Process Section, OPD south commented “We requested an ILM 2 programme for our people because over the years the ILM Level 2 programmes have proved successful to provide the first line supervisors with needed tools for them to effectively manage their day to day activities, manage and develop people and confidently take decisions. This will have a direct impact on Bapco Business continuity. Neil worked very hard to meet our needs in a short time scale during Ramadan and was very flexible in terms of time scales and adding in extra delegates from OS & E

and P & U. We look forward to seeing how the delegates apply the Leadership and team skills back at work”

During August 36 delegates attended their ILM 2 induction with Head of Career Development, Peter J. Conway and Training Specialist, Supervisory Development, Neil Porter. The delegates were nominated by the Managers of OPD, OS &E and P & U.After a welcome from Peter the delegates learnt that ILM is an internationally recognised qualification taken by 95,000 people each year. Bapco is one of 2,500 approved centres offering ILM

qualifications and has been doing so since 2008 with over 300 successful graduates from 26 programmes at level 2,3 and 5. Neil reminded the delegates they have to attend all 14 days in class and 8 written assignments and 2 presentations to successfully complete the programme in March 2017 to get their ILM2 Certificate in Leadership and Team skills. After lunch the group were joined by two ILM2 graduates, Abbas Al- Hamaqui (OPD)

and Sayed Ahmed Al Mosawi (TSD) who gave an interesting presentation in Arabic on how to successfully complete the programme and answered the delegate questions. Neil then presented them both with a gift as an appreciation for their efforts. Finally to help the two groups bond they completed the MTa Learning exercise “Over the Bridge” and Zainab Salman, who will be assisting with the ILM Administration,

helped judge which was the winning team in each group. The delegates then completed a review of the task, facilitated by Neil, to see what lessons they could apply back at work to be more effective as a team. Neil concluded “ The delegates really benefitted from their ILM induction day and now have a clear picture of what they have to do in order to complete the programme. Over the coming months they will be learning about Time Management, Motivation, Leadership and how to develop themselves and their team. I look forward to working with them to help them progress in their careers with Bapco”

Royal Academy Children Hosted on Summer Camp Visit

A training course was recently held in the field of security navigation for employees of Bapco’s Security department. In view of this, Manager – Security Mr. Adel Al Gaoud said that the course was held as part of Bapco’s various developmental programmes and as part of the ongoing efforts of the company to polish staff performance and skills in the field of security. He added, “The course lasted for four days and consisted of theoretical and practical parts.” “It was attended by six trainees, with

the intention of qualifying them to join Bapco’s existing Security Boat Crew of fourteen employees, which now brings the total number of our Security Boat Crew to twenty.”The training programme discussed a number of key topics related to navigation, maritime patrol, boat stability, first aid, high-level operations and radio communication in addition to the application of advanced tools such as navigators to identify locations. “The course also included further topics such as

voice echoing systems and distress calls, in addition to reviewing maritime laws in GCC countries and methods of applying maritime diagrams” added Mr. Al Gaoud.“Each trainee was awarded with a certificate of completion upon the conclusion of the course” said Mr. Al Gaoud. “The course was held in line with Bapco’s annual plan for the 2016-2017 year, which aimed at enhancing the performance of Security employees” he concluded.

Bapco last month hosted a group of children from the Royal Academy of Police as part of their summer camp activities. The delegation was received at the Bapco Club by Mr.

Fahad Al Shamsan, Superintendent – Special Assignment from Bapco’s Public Relations Department. During the visit, the children were shown a presentation and a short film on

Bapco’s history and its mission of serving the development of the community. They also participated in a number of activities aimed at enhancing communication skills and

leadership. Upon the conclusion of the visit, Royal Academy officials thanked Bapco for organising the visit, wishing the company continued progress and prosperity.

Practical Training as part of ROAYA ProjectAs part of the ROAYA Project implementation plan, Oracle University conducted a practical training programme for two groups of employees from various departments in Bapco, such as IT, Procurement, Maintenance and Finance, at the Training Centre. The course consisted of two parts; the first part began on 19 June and lasted for five days. The Oracle trainers showed participants step-by-step procedures for building and verifying the three layers of an Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) repository, and used this to

address a fictitious company’s business requirements. In the second part of the course, which was held on 11 July, Mr. Cuneyt Yilzam, Oracle University’s instructor, delivered an introduction to the “Create Analyses and Dashboard” course which will enable the team to build analyses for inclusion in dashboards. The complexity of the dashboards increased as the course progressed.Training received positive feedback from the attendees which will be helpful in the implementation phase.

PR Delegation Attends Two-week Training in UK

The confluence of rapid technical change, globalisation and economic liberalisation in recent years has prompted many business corporations to prioritise human capital and skills development as a key strategy for economic competitiveness and growth. Bapco has understood – since its inception – the importance of human capital and skill development and its effect on people’s lives and the economic and social development of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Therefore, Bapco has always been characterised by its on-going efforts to invest hugely in its employees in addition to its various initiatives in qualifying the national calibre as per the most advanced trends in global markets. “Being the cornerstone of its success, Bapco is committed to fostering human

capital development with the aim of establishing a solid background of efficient workforce capable of fulfilling the growing requirements in the future,” Bapco’s General Manager - Human Resources and Administration Mr. Khalid Sabbagh, said. “Bapco applies the most updated techniques to achieve this goal, and one way of doing it is by organising major training courses in collaboration with relevant industry bodies.”Aligned with Bapco’s corporate strategy and commitment to developing its workforce, the Public Relations Department aims to develop a world-class team of PR professionals and has enrolled its members in various training programmes throughout the years. Recently, the department designed a two-week public relations training programme focused on the oil & gas industry, in collaboration with The BIG Partnership, one of the largest PR and digital marketing agencies in the United Kingdom. The aim of this training programme was to provide participants with the knowledge necessary for professional public relations services and to enhance their output by bringing in international know-how and integrating the industry’s best practices in their day-to-day activities.“Bapco pays close attention to the development of its workforce and polishing their skills in conformity with the latest applications worldwide, and in light of the current branding project, the development of PR skills and services has become an integral part of the company’s strategy,” added Mr. Sabbagh. “We are pleased that our PR team members Ahlam Mohamed,

Reem Ebrahim and Ali AlSabbagh, attended this comprehensive training programme in July at the BIG Partnership’s offices in the Oil Capital of Europe, Aberdeen. Their collective experiences and the newly learnt knowledge will be significant in setting plans to improve the Public Relations Department’s services.”Over the two week duration of the programme, the participants learnt the latest oil & gas industry trends and best practices in the international PR industry over a series of intensive workshops in media relations, crisis communication, social media strategy, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy and events management. Additionally, the participants have been media trained as spokespersons by Scotland Television (STV) News Editor, Donald John MacDonald. They also had the opportunity to visit Petrofac’s Emergency Response and Crisis Management Centre, where they participated in a live exercise as media respondents. Throughout their time in Aberdeen, the participants attended networking events with established journalists such as Jeremy Creswell, P&J Energy Editor and Rita Brown, Editor of Energy Voice as well as executives from industry bodies such Tim Smith, VP Communications and External Affairs in BP and Jill Glennie, Manager - Communications and Industry Affairs in EnQuest.Bapco continues to be a leader in human capital development and this originates from its compliance with its longstanding CSR philosophy, reflecting its role as a key supporter of human capital development not only in the organisation but also across the Kingdom.

Reem EbrahimVisits Aberdeen, Gains

Valuable Media Exposure

Public Relations Department’s Reem Ebrahim visited the UK in July as part of a two-week workshop organised between Bapco and The Big Partnership, an integrated public relations and digital marketing agency based in Aberdeen, Scotland. In a chat with The Islander, Reem recalls a significant portion of the training programme, where she discusses her visit to the Scotland Television (STV) premises. The visit, which was held on Wednesday, 20 July 2016, focused mainly on the Messaging element of media communications. The objective of the visit was to learn how to respond with effective messaging in the face of a crisis. It also touched upon key issues such as how to respond while being interviewed on television during a crisis, quite literally, in the face of adversity. As part of a day-long mock crisis exercise, Reem was interviewed “live” on STV. Additionally, a tour was conducted to various sections of the station’s premises during which Reem, along with other delegates from Bapco learnt about their various functions.Reem and the delegation also had the opportunity to meet with Donald John “DJ” MacDonald, Editor for the North Region and Chris Harvey, a news presenter, journalist and producer for STV news, during their tour of STV. Reem describes the experience as an “all-day, interactive workshop on navigating media interviews with video feedback.” She elaborates, “The visit mainly aimed to help the visitors understand the task from the perspective of the journalist. It also touched upon building appropriate messaging, coping under pressure, and discussed how not to be caught on “live” interviews while being interviewed by experienced energy journalists.Later in the day, Reem and the rest of the Bapco delegation were also hosted at a dinner organised by The Big Partnership, where the delegates had the valuable opportunity to engage in a more formal discussion with trainers and journalists where they met with Jeremy Cresswell, Author at Energy Voice. In conclusion, Reem says, “The exercise focused primarily on confirmation, preparedness and nature of the cause.” “The visit was highly fruitful and provided all of us with invaluable industry expertise like never before, for which I am highly thankful.”

Ali Al Sabbagh from the Public R e l a t i o n s D e p a r t m e n t visited the United Kingdom in July 2016 as part of a delegation from Bapco. Ali shares his thoughts on his visit to Petrofac’s world-class Emergency R e s p o n s e Training Centre in Aberdeen on 21 July 2016. In the morning, the visiting delegation was introduced to the industry’s best practices and procedures on how to respond to an emergency on an oil rig. “We were put to test in a tiny emergency room similar to the one you see on off-shore oil rigs in the North Sea” described Ali. “The sirens were on all the time and we had to answer various calls for help and support over the radio and phone and pass communications accordingly to the Crisis Management Centre on-shore. It was a crazy morning, but throughout the debrief that followed, we learnt a lot on how to manage stress levels in such situations.”“In the afternoon, we participated in an extensive simulated exercise, put together by the team in Petrofac as part of their routine training in which a hypothetical oil refinery in Shetland had a major explosion in one of its units. The exercise was set in Petrofac’s Crisis Management Centre, with role-players covering various functions such as operations, logistics, and HSE. Emergency services such as the police, hospital, coastguard etc. also participated in the exercises” recalls Ali.“I had the opportunity to sit on the media ‘hot’ seat where I was responsible for evaluating the importance of received information, drafting media statements, releasing a media inquiry hotline, and timing the flow of issued media communications.” The rest of the Bapco delegation served as media respondents throughout the exercise, communicating with journalists who called the media inquiry hotline. About 25 people in total were involved in this simulated exercise and it lasted for over 3 hours” concludes Ali.PEARFrom the simulated exercise, the visiting delegation learnt the importance of controlling and evaluating the communication flow during a crisis, putting into action what they learnt about stakeholders’ management in workshop earlier on of their visit. They also learnt how to take into account the following during any crisis, in terms of their priority:P – PeopleE – EnvironmentA – AssetsR – ReputationThe acronym PEAR stands for: People; Environment; Asset; Reputation. It is based on priorities - the welfare of the people is always the first priority; second, it is important to gauge what kind of impact the crisis could have on the wider environment and thirdly, the need to consider how assets will be affected. Finally, once the above three have been addressed, the impact on reputation needs to be assessed.

Ahlam Ebrahim’s Views on Aberdeen Workshop

Sitting down with The Islander for a quick recap, Ahlam Ebrahim, Superintendent – Corporate Media recalls her experience in the UK. “We were hosted at a dinner on 20 July where we had the opportunity

to engage in a more formal discussion with trainers and journalists. Discussions included the oil and gas industry in the North Sea Area and the similarities in journalism between the Middle Eastern and North Sea regions. The objective of the meeting really was to enforce what we had learnt so far in terms of media relations.” Later, we were invited to visit the Press and Journal, a daily regional newspaper serving northern and highland Scotland. The visit took place on Wednesday, 27 July 2016, where we learnt about their two main publications, as follows:“The Energy”, an oil and gas supplement of 25 pages which is issued on the first Monday of every month, and“Energy Voice”; we learnt about social media engagement, online publications, new media, SEO, online monitoring, tracking etc.The programme also comprised of various other elements such as presentations of prepared talks by participants, with feedback, and a half-day session on event and press conference management. This was a crucial part of the training programme as it taught us about the ingredients for a successful event, how to set objectives for effective events and exhibitions, how to develop an event management plan with timelines, how to attract the right audience, how to maximized the return on investment, media management and very importantly, the role of PR professionals in hosting, chairing, stage-managing and troubleshooting a press conference.

At the end of July Hassan E. Ghuloom, BOOST Steering Committee Chairperson and Trainer stepped down from his role as Committee Chairperson, and ran his last BOOST Observer course.Hassan Commented “BOOST is a great safety tool and a very effective process if implemented in the right way. We, as a Steering Committee, have accomplished many things in the past couple of years such as participating in EHS week and developed a BOOST e-learning programme soon to be published. Moreover, we have run more than 20 BOOST Observer Training and Refresher sessions, trained more than 260 new Bapco/Contractor observers and rewarded active observers on three occasions. We will continue in our efforts to make Bapco a safer workplace.”The BOOST Observer Training programme will now be run by the Learning & Development Department. Neil Porter , Specialist, Supervisory Development, has been working with Hassan, Neil Gilbert, Ameena Meamari

and Zuhair Al-Mutawa to update the programme for the new style BOOST Observer Training programmes, which will be run from August 25th on a monthly basis.Neil Porter explained “We will keep the fun, team element that had become a trademark of Hassan’s courses but the slides have been updated with new photos and examples of current at risk behaviour in Bapco. There will be several quizzes during the day to ensure the new observers are comfortable with what is required as an observer; confident in the criteria they are observing, and competent to do the job. The updated programme also places more emphasis on filling in the BOOST observation form consistently. This will allow for better data entry on Rincon and more accurate information on XHQ. In turn this will allow more efficient barrier removal and make Bapco a safer place to work. The delegates will get a BOOST gift on successful completion of the programme”Peter J. Conway, Head of Career Development,

added “To help with the transfer of learning back to work we have designed a reminder card which each delegate will get with a BOOST energy drink which covers the 4 stages of completing a BOOST observation.”“The first two courses in August and November

are fully booked but we have spaces in January, February and March. Managers who wish to nominate members of their team to be trained as BOOST observers should register them on the appropriate course in Masaar using code FS902” added Neil.

Petrofac, Tecnicas Reunidas likely to win Saudi Aramco DealsSaudi Aramco is considering concluding contracts with British oilfield Services Company Petrofac and Spain’s

Tecnicas Reunidas to build projects for its Uthmaniyah and Ras Tanura plants, industry sources said last Tuesday. Tecnicas Reunidas is the lowest bidder to build units for a cleaner fuels project at Ras Tanura refinery, originally estimated to cost more than $2 billion, aimed at removing sulphur from refined oil products. Petrofac is the front-runner to build a gas treatment facility at Uthmaniyah gas plant, which aims to recover ethane as well as propane and other natural gas liquids (NGL) from 1.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (scfd) of sales gas.

Russian Government Postpones Bashneft SaleThe Russian Government has postponed selling its majority stake in mid-sized oil producer Bashneft for up to five years until the asset becomes of more value, the president of the oil producing internal Russian Republic of Bashkortostan told Reuters last Tuesday. The Russian Government was planning to sell the shares (around $4.8 billion) this autumn to plug holes in its budget caused by a slump in oil prices and Western sanctions over Ukraine. Some of the interested stake buyers were Russia’s oil majors Rosneft and Lukoil.

Vitol wins right to export Kazakhstan share of Kashagan outputSwiss commodity trader Vitol SA has won the right to export Kazakhstan’s share of output from the giant Kashagan field, further strengthening its position in the central Asian nation as it prepares for an oil production jump. Vitol has been the dominant force of Kazakhstan’s

oil exports for over a decade, taking barrels mainly to Russian ports and ports and shipping them to European refineries.

Vitol says Exxon Mobil lacked ‘transparency’ during Torrance OutageVitol SA criticized Exxon Mobil Corp last week for failing to be transparent about maintenance at its 149,500 bpd Torrance refinery in Los Angeles following a February 2015 blast, which contributed to tighter gasoline supplies and higher prices. Vitol said that lack of information from Exxon made it difficult to time cargo deliveries into the West Coast market. Exxon in an emailed statement rejected Vitol’s claims, saying it operated responsibly and in strict compliance with all laws.Chevron said in a statement last Friday, that they don’t have plans to exit Thailand investments.Chevron said in a statement last Friday that they don’t have plans to exit Thailand investments despite job cuts that have spurred rumors of the U.S. oil major’s exit. Chevron is supplying more than one-third of its natural gas demand - operates several exploration and production blocks in the Gulf of Thailand.

Chevron has put its Myanmar gas block stakes worth an estimated $1.3 billion up for sale and Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production Pcl has said it is keen to make the purchase.Indonesian palm biodiesel consumption increased in the first half of 2016.Indonesian palm biodiesel consumption increased in the first half of 2016, largely driven by a levy scheme that is channeled towards the country’s biofuel subsidies. Around 1 million tonnes of palm methyl ester (PME) during H1 2016 was subsidized compared with 600,000 tonnes consumed during H1 2015. The increase in biodiesel demand was seen driving Indonesian palm oil consumption to an all-time high of 9.6 million tonnes during 2016-17, 600,000 tonnes above industry estimates.

A Little Static Can Cause a Big Fire! There have been many incidents where a static electric discharge was the likely ignition source for a fire or explosion. In 2007, two incidents were investigated by the US Chemical Safety Board (CSB) 1. One was caused by poor grounding of an intermediate bulk container (portable tank) while filling with a flammable solvent (1), and the other by a poorly grounded level float in a storage tank which was being filled from a tank truck (2). Other incidents have been caused by poor grounding/bonding of tanks, portable containers, tank trucks, railroad tank cars, and static discharge from people.Did you know?Static charge is generated by contact and separation of two different materials. Once generated, charge may remain on the materials until it finds a lower electrical potential, and then it discharges. The spark can have enough energy to ignite flammable vapors, gases, or a combustible dust cloud.

Static can be generated by fluids flowing through pipes, solids through ducts, and even by air flowing through ductwork or pneumatic conveyors.• Mechanical conveying systems can generate static by rollers and belts contacting each other, especially if they slide over each other.• Static sparks may be felt (a sharp “zap”), seen (small bluish arcs), or heard (a snapping sound).• Non-conductive liquids such as benzene, toluene, and naphtha, generate static much more easily and dissipate charge more slowly compared to conductive fluids, such as water, alcohols, and acetone.Poorly grounded and bonded hoses are a frequent contributor to creating static. What can you do?Always follow your plant grounding and bonding procedures before any material transfer operation.• Make sure that grounding/bonding equipment in your

plant is regularly inspected and tested.• Inspect grounding/bonding equipment before each use to ensure it is in proper working order and that it attaches firmly (metal to metal) to the container. If it is frayed, or has a poor connection to ground, notify your supervisor.Inspect hoses prior to use. A damaged hose may have a broken grounding wire inside. Hoses should be regularly checked for electrical continuity.• Non-metallic containers (for example, plastic or glass) are difficult to ground and bond. When using these containers, exercise additional caution and follow procedures. If there is no grounding specified, ask why not.If handling solids in plastic bags or with plastic liners in paper bags, ask an engineer for advice on proper procedures to prevent static sparks.Managing static – a key part of reducing ignition sources!Aiche.org

Good Ideas Recognised at CeremonyKey Issues

Discussed atEHSC Meeting

No. 92Bapco’s Environment, Health & Safety Committee held its monthly meeting for July 2016, where the following issues were discussed:

• There were no Lost Time Injuries (LTIs) or Non Lost Time Injuries during July 2016; however one First Aid injury was reported.

• The heat stress campaign commenced in July and is a reminder to all that we should take due care at work and at home to protect ourselves from heat related stress by taking regular breaks, drinking plenty of water and avoiding working outdoors for long periods in peak hours during the summer months.

• 4 Process Safety Incidents were recorded during July 2016, out of which none were classified as Tier 1 or Tie

• Six road traffic accidents were reported during July 2016 (this is one of the highest monthly number since the beginning of the year) out of which 3 involved Bapco drivers and 3 contractor drivers. Out of these 6 accidents, 2 were due to the fault of Bapco drivers, 2 were due to the fault of contractor drivers and 2 were due to the fault of third party drivers. YTD there have been 39 vehicle accidents compared to 76 at the same time last year, although the trend is declining we need to continue with our efforts through defensive driving training and awareness to reduce these accidents.

• There was one unplanned flaring; one venting incident and one significant oil spill due to the tanker overturn accident during July 2016. The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) is currently at 4.95 vs. target of 7. This is mainly due to the unplanned flaring incidents and oil spills. It was re-iterated to improve our performance in this area.

• A presentation was made on the findings of the preliminary investigation into the tanker overturn accident on 24th July 2016. A number of actions which require immediate action have been identified to prevent such an accident. The detailed investigation will include short, medium and long term actions to prevent a recurrence of such an accident.

• The reliability, maintenance and safety of process units and operating assets are currently being reviewed by Solomon Associates and Chevron audits. This is part of our efforts to ensure the essence of operational excellence (safety, environment, health, reliability and efficiency) is fully realised.

A Good Idea award ceremony was held on the 12 July, 2016 at the Engineering Conference Room to recognise and present certificates for a successful Good Idea submitted by the Technical Support Section of Bapco’s Plant Engineering Department. Summary of ideas:Bapco appointed Nass Contracting Company for the supply, fabrication and installation of a Ship Impact Protection System in berths 3 & 4 at the Sitra Wharf. The objective of this project is to provide an impact-resistant concrete and steel barrier to prevent ships from damaging Bapco’s oil and gas installations at berths 3 & 4 during mooring and also to protect the trestle bridge and GPIC’s ammonia pipeline from likely ship impact. The job involved the construction of concrete and steel piles. The steel pile casings, steel impact beam, steel support columns and chains system to support rubber fenders were imported by Nass Contracting from overseas. The value of the steel items imported was US$ 1 Million. To complete the importing formalities, Nass Contracting had to pay a customs duty at the rate of 5% of the cost of steel items imported, valued at US$ 50,000. The Good Idea submitters, following discussions with various departments within the company, learnt that Bapco is exempted

from the payment of custom duties on steel items that are required to be procured for the continuous safe operations and maintenance of its oil & gas assets. Anwer Qamer and Dinesh Mahanty of the Plant Engineering Department’s Technical Support Section jointly proposed to utilise the aforementioned customs duty waiver facility that Bapco enjoys, and ensured that duty waiver letters were issued to the Customs Department of the Kingdom of Bahrain by Bapco’s Procurement Department. The proposal was accepted by the Customs Department and Bapco saved US$ 50,000.The duty waiver amount was debited from the Nass Contracting payables during settlement of the contract payment, upon the successful completion of the Ship Impact Protection System Project. The financial award for the Good Idea submitters was shared equally and amounted to BD450/-.In view of this, Bapco’s Superintendent – Technical Support Section, Aby Thomas kicked off the awards ceremony with a statement of introduction to the ideas and the benefits that Bapco gained from this idea. Aby expressed his thanks and appreciation to the team for their efforts, which contributed to the achievement of the aforementioned financial savings for Bapco. On his part, Khalid Hadi, Acting Senior Manager - Engineering Services Unit thanked those concerned for their contributions and for presenting their ideas. He highlighted the benefits that the company will gain from the ‘A Good Idea Scheme’ in general and from this idea in particular. Mr. Hadi emphasised that there is always room for further improvement, and reiterated that Bapco is committed to continual improvement. Further, Nina Parkinson, Superintendent – Quality Management Systems of the Operational Excellence Department, added that in whichever way we view it, either from a Good Idea point of view or from the ISO 9001:2015 angle, these simple or complex ideas are the way forward for continuous improvement where Bapco counts on all employees’ ideas, both simple and complex. She also encouraged all employees to contribute and submit their suggestions to the Good Idea scheme.

State-owned Emirates National Oil Co. (ENOC) of Dubai plans to expand capacity of its 140,000-b/sd condensate refinery at Jebel Ali to 210,000 b/sd.The expansion is part of a national plan for growth through 2021.ENOC built the refinery in 1999 and added a reformer and hydrotreater in 2010.

Statoil ASA has submitted a plan for development and operation (PDO) for the 2005 Byrding discovery to Norwegian authorities, and said recoverable volumes are estimated at 11 million boe. Byrding, previously known as Astero, lies in 360 m of water on Block 35/11 about 3.8 km north of Fram field. The reservoir is about 3,100 m below the ocean surface, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, which

also said the 35/11-13 discovery well was appraised by the 35/11-14 well in 2006.NPD said development of Byrding “has been considered multiple times” in the past 10 years. The plan includes a duo-lateral well drilled from the existing Fram H-Nord subsea template. The duo-lateral well is expected to be 7 km long, with the first kilometers shared by the two laterals.Oil and gas will flow to the Troll C platform for partial

processing and then sent onshore by existing pipelines to Mongstad and Kollsnes.Statoil and NPD said it was another example using existing systems for the development of a discovery.Capital expenditures are estimated at 1 billion kroner, down from initial estimates of 3.5 billion kroner. The development is expected to come on stream in third-quarter 2017, with production lasting as long as 10 years. An estimate of peak production in 2017 and 2018 is about 8,000 boe/d.Byrding is within PL 090 B. Operator Statoil has 45%, Wintershall Norge AS 25%, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS 15%, and Engie E&P Norge 15%.

Federated Cooperatives Ltd. (FCL) has let a contract to General Electric International Inc. subsidiary GE Power, Schenectady, NY, to provide advanced water-recycling technology for a wastewater improvement project (WIP) at its Coop Refinery Complex (CRC) in Regina, Sask.GE Power has delivered a combination of its ZeeWeed membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology and a high-efficiency reverse osmosis (HERO) system currently under installation that, once in operation, will allow the refinery to recycle and reuse 2 million gpd of wastewater, the service provider said. The contract, for which a value was not disclosed, includes wastewater specialty chemicals and monitoring solutions to enable optimization of the system, GE Power said. The multistage treatment process will use a combination of live bacteria, special filtration units, and HERO to clean and recycle 100% of wastewater on site to enable the refinery to reduce its freshwater use by 28%/year, as well

as result in reductions of volatile organic compound emissions and associated nuisance odors from its wastewater ponds, FCL said.Currently in its commissioning phase, the WIP is due to for full startup this fall.Once on stream, the more-than-$200 million (Can.) WIP will establish CRC as the only refinery in North America to recycle all of its wastewater to produce steam that will be used for heating, hydrogen production, to power equipment, and for cooling towers, FCL said.CRC processes 145,000 b/d of crude oil to produce 130,000 b/d of fuels for western Canada.Ogj.com

Brent crude oil prices for October delivery rose by more than $1 on the London market Aug. 18 to close at nearly $51/bbl while light, sweet crude oil prices on the New York market rose by more than $1.40 to settle above $48/bbl.Analysts attributed the rally to reduced US oil and gasoline inventories, declining Chinese oil demand, and indications that members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries along with some non-OPEC producers were ready to discuss measures that could stabilize prices.Analysts on Aug. 19 awaiting the weekly Baker Hughes Inc. US rig count. Previously, US commercial crude oil inventories, excluding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, fell 2.5 million bbl for the week ended Aug. 12, the US Energy Information Administration reported (OGJ Online, Aug.17, 2016).Morgan Stanley issued a note saying Chinese gasoline demand appears to be slowing so its crude oil imports are likely to decline.Nigerian Oil Minister Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu said Aug. 18 that a cut in OPEC production is unlikely although he believes an informal meeting of OPEC producers during a September energy conference in Algeria could support crude prices.“Are we cutting volumes? I don’t see that happening,” Kachikwu told reporters.

During a speech in Lagos, Kachikwu said Nigeria’s production has fallen to 1.56 million b/d because of militant attacks.US natural gas futures prices rose for most of the week.EIA estimated natural gas in underground storage across the Lower 48 at a rounded 3.34 tcf as of Aug. 12, a net increase of 22 bcf from the previous week.Gas supplies were 327 bcf higher than for the same period last year and 405 bcf above the 5-year average of a rounded 2.93 tcf, theGas Storage Report said.Raymond James & Associates analysts storage levels could reach “close to 4 tcf” by Dec. 31.“Still, as market supply and demand fundamentals appear to be improving, we expect that the market could look past 2016›s likely high, but still workable, storage levels and focus on improving trends in 2017 to lead to higher gas prices,” RJA said in a research note.Energy pricesThe NYMEX crude oil contract for September gained $1.43 to close at $48.22/bbl on Aug. 18. The October contract climbed $1.37 to close at $48.89/bbl.The natural gas contract for September rose 5.5¢ to a rounded $2.67/MMbtu. On the spot market, the Henry Hub gas price remained unchanged at $2.71/MMbtu.Heating oil for September gained nearly 4¢ to a rounded $1.53/gal. The contract for November was up $1.07 to $51.15/bbl. The September gas oil contract settled at $442.25/tonne on Aug. 18, up $12.25.The average price for OPEC’s basket of 12 benchmark crudes was $46.50/bbl on Aug. 18, up $1.16.

By: Donya AdelWhen Max was a little puppy, he was found on the streets by Sally, abandoned in a box labelled “Free Puppies”. As Max grew older and became the loyal best friend of his owner, he would spend all day waiting for her to return home from work. One day, while Max was waiting for Sally at the door and telling the other pets about how special his relationship with Sally was, he received a shock when something large and heavy suddenly pushed against the door. To Max’s surprise, a large fuzzy brown dog walked in and Max felt

threatened by a new animal entering his territory. The new dog, Duke, was frightened and began obeying all of Max’s orders. However, he slowly got fed up and tricked Max into jumping into a net, before taking the net into an alley and throwing it into a trash bin. Duke happily began to walk away until he heard a loud noise coming from behind him, which happened to be a creepy stray Sphynx cat which had ears resembling Swiss cheese! The nasty cat held Max and attempted to harm him. The two dogs then growled at the cat but had their collars stolen and found themselves surrounded by an army of dangerous stray cats. Suddenly, two men from the Animal Control Services heard them and began chasing the two dogs, while all the cats escaped. Max and Duke were captured and placed in a cell in the Animal Control Services van where they found themselves facing a mentally disturbed bulldog, when three gangster animals broke in, attacked the drivers and freed the bulldog. The leader of the gang, a “ghetto” bunny called Snowball, agreed to free them as long as they joined its clan, which aimed to destroy the human race. The two dogs pretended to agree in order to escape the vehicle, but soon found themselves in danger as they accidentally killed a member of the gang. Duke and Max escaped and were chased by the animals from the gang including Snowball, and a fight broke out until the Animal Control Services caught Duke and a tattooed pig from the gang. Max and Snowball then joined forces to save their friends. After the search squad found Max, all the animals went after the Animal Control Services and attacked the two humans controlling the vehicle, which caused it to fall off a bridge and threatened to drown Duke, who was still locked up inside. Max attempted to break Duke out of his cell, and he was about to drown until Snowball saved them and let all the dogs go back to their homes. Snowball was then adopted by a little girl who picked him up.

Bahrain Fares Impressively at Rio 2016

EPL is back!

Boxing legend Mohammed Ali lights the cauldron at the inception of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, United States. Last month in Rio De Janeiro, Brazilian marathon star Vanderlei De Lima lit the Olympic cauldron at the opening of the 2016 games.

Memorable Moments

The Kingdom of Bahrain put up a solid performance at the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 5 to 21 August. Although the 31st Olympic Games were dominated by usual sporting giants; the United States of America, Great Britain, China and Russia, Bahrain fared very well to bring home one gold and one silver medal and finish as the leading

medal winner among Arab countries. Ruth Jebet won the gold in the 3000m steeplechase, while Eunice Jepkirui Kirwa won silver in the marathon, making Bahrain proud. In the men’s competition, Bahrain’s Ali Khamis finished sixth in the men’s 400m final with a time of 44.36 seconds.

The fourth and final Grand Slam tennis tournament of 2016 is officially underway in Flushing Meadows with defending champion Novak Djokovic and 22-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams returning

to New York to claim the biggest remaining prize that tennis has to offer in 2016. The tournament commenced on Monday, 29 August and is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday,

11 September with $3.5 million up for grabs for the Singles winners. The men’s side will benefit from the absence of five-time champion Roger Federer, who has

ended his season prematurely to recover from a knee injury. N e v e r t h e l e s s , Djokovic and co. will be wary of the sizzling form of Britain’s Andy Murray, as well as Swiss Stan

Wawrinka and towering Canadian Milos Raonic among others. Returning Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro is also well and truly back after a lengthy injury layoff, as he proved during his convincing defeats of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at the Olympics last month. Potential giant killers such as Nick Kyrgios could also pose a threat to the top ten. Will Serena Williams be able to eclipse the great Steffi Graf by winning an unprecedented 23rd Slam, or will 2016 too be a year of revelations like Italians Roberta Vinci and Flavia

Pennetta proved last season? Less than two weeks remain before the curtains fall on the final Grand Slam of 2016, and there’s only one way to find out…

Football connoisseurs, your wait is over. The 25th season of the English Premier League kicked off on 13 August and the action and drama on the turf returns with twenty teams vying for one of the biggest prizes in international football. Defending champs Leicester City are back to stake their claim, while Premier League bigwigs Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea Liverpool and the rest will be out hunting for glory once again. In addition to seventeen teams from the 2015-2016 season, Middlesbrough, Hull City and Burnley are also in contention after being promoted from the 2015=2016 Football League Championship.
