Teamwork and Leadership
Introduction
In a study of communication networks, groups of four or five people were engaged in problem-solving tasks in different forms of groupings.
While interacting at work they were essentially engaged in two sets of activities – the
accomplishment of tasks and maintenance for the social fabric of the group. As a result, a
system embracing the two streams has been developed. It is called “interaction process
analysis”.
There are 12 categories used for interaction process analysis
Tasks/questions are:1. Asks for orientation, information, repetition, confirmation.2. Asks for opinion, evaluation, analysis, expression of feeling.3. Asks for suggestion, direction, possible ways of action.Tasks attempted answers are:4. Gives suggestion, direction, implying autonomy for others.5. Gives opinion, evaluation, analysis, expresses feelings, wish.6. Gives orientation, information, repeats, clarifies, confirms.Socio-emotional / positive behaviours are:7. Shows solidarity, raises others’ status, gives help, rewards;8. Shows tension release, jokes, laughs, shows satisfaction.9. Agrees, shows passive acceptance, understanding, concurs, complies.Socio-emotional / negative behavious are:10. Disagrees, shows passive rejection, formality, withholds help.11. Shows tension, asks for help, withdraws out of field.12. Shows antagonism, deflates other’s status, defends or asserts self.
Functions required in strengthening and maintaining group life and activities:
Encouraging. Being friendly, warm, responsive to others, praising others and their ideas, agreeing with and accepting contributions of others.
Gatekeeping. Trying to make it possible for another member to make it possible to make a contribution to the group.
Standard-setting. Expressing standards for the group to use in choosing its content or procedures.
Following. Going along with decisions of the group, thoughtfully accepting ideas of others, serving as an audience during group discussion.
Expressing group feeling. Summarizing what group feeling is sensed to be, describing reactions of the group to ideas or solutions.
Who is a leader?
Team leaders are troubleshooters; they help the team to analyse and solve
problems, and obtain resources from outside the group. They help with
confronting conflict, and can assist with minimizing the disruptive consequences
of team conflict by asking the right questions.
In order to build an effective team the team leader must:
Be on the look out for means to exploit the capabilities of team members with a view to improving their performance.
Create a supportive climate in order to encourage the improvement of performance.
Influence members to change their behaviour by encouraging them to continually improve their performance.
What is empowerment?Empowerment can promote the development of team members. It amounts to the leader sharing power and responsibility with team members. There are such observations about the leader’s role in empowerment:
-The leader has genuine respect for the abilities and potential of team members;
-The leader feels secure, other wise the empowerment of team members could be perceived a thread to his or her position;
-Mobilize training to tap latent potential of members and build their confidence;
-Create conditions where team members are keen to assume responsibility rather than being asked to do so.
-Allow sufficient time for empowerment to take root, and praise and encourage people as they work their way through the implementation of this concept.
-Recognize that a side-effect of empowerment is the need for more information.
-Use the reward system to support empowerment.

The world of literature includes 3 important components:
The key aims of the course of English and American literature
Creative teaching depends on the ability of the teacher to motivate students by arousing their interest in the material to be studied.
Such teaching demands:
Possible ways to motivate students
The most effective ways of improving students’ knowledge in literature
Methods of boosting students creativity
Delving deeperFlower symbols in the literary works by William
Shakespeare (Anastasia Bahrin)• Rose.
• Shakespeare mentions roses more frequently than any flower. Particular roses that can be identified are the rich scented damask-roses of red and white emblems of the Houses of York and Lancaster.
• Violet.
• On no fewer than 18 occasions Shakespeare refers to the violet in matchless poetic terms.
• “Here’s flowers for you…” Shakespeare’s monument in the cancel of Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon, is bedecked with floral tributes on the poet’s birthday, 23 April, which is also St. George’s Day.
Commenting on the writer’s maxims. William Shakespeare “Age and Youth” (Lesya Balanyuk)
• Shakespeare wrote: “Youth like summer morn, age like winter weather”. It is a very thoughtful comparison. Summer morning is like a symbol of beginning of another day. It means that everything is still ahead. Summer is the only season that is careless, free from all the problems and worries. In summer people forget about the troubles and enjoy life. That is youth, the time when everything is possible, when people have many dreams and hope that someday
they will come true.
Commenting on a rhetorical question (Myhailo Biliychuk)
• Why do people keep diaries?• Mae West’s quote will explain everything. “Keep a diary and
one day it will keep you”. This laconic phrase is utterly true. The events, thoughts and feelings will one day help you to recollect your memories from the past. Wouldn’t it be interesting and pleasing to find a dusty book, open its yellow pages and feast your eyes on the events that took place 10, 20, or even, if you are fortunate enough, 50 years ago.
Retelling the story as if you were one of the personages.
Writing a sequel of the story.
• “The Luck of Roaring Camp” by Bret Harte.• Students’ titles:• “We Survived”• “The Night of Horror”• “Life After Death”
Transition from prose to poetry.
• Wordsworth’s “Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings”.
• Flashback narration.• The life of Virginia Clemn and Edgar Allan Poe – reconstructing
events of the past, thinking over the reasons and consequences of the events which led to a tragic end.
• Literary translation of the most heartfelt poem by Poe “Annabel Lee”. (Valeria Sorokovska)
• And a noteworthy illustration of the poem (Olesia Lysko)
Creative Writing
• Students are provided with one or more topic sentences to develop them into a paragraph or a
longer composition.• “Winter Day” (Nastia Hryniuk)

15 tips for motivating staff
We all know that motivated staff work better and harder. But how do we ensure our staff are always motivated? Here are a
few tips.
1. Happy work force = happy customers
Provide a great environment to work in and look after your staff the way you expect them to look
after your customers.
2. Senior manager feedback You don’t need to spend a lot of money to make your
people feel motivated and valued. Quite often a telephone call from a senior manager congratulating a team member on a ‘good week’ is equally as effective
as an offer of a training course or gift voucher.
3. A positive attitudeIt is vital that recruitment team managers realign their expectations and take into consideration the economic
climate when setting targets and objectives.
4. The right tools and skills for the jobRegardless of whether you are operating during a credit crunch or not – staff motivation is influenced by the following factors: having the right person in the job who is capable of doing it;
equipping them to do the job by giving them the right tools and support and finally setting realistic targets that they believe can
be achieved.
5. Using temporary workersThe benefit of having temporary
workers is that the customers can flex up and down depending on their
requirement.
6. Don’t be tempted to carry anyone who is not up to the jobLeadership skills are ever more important during a credit crunch
and you must lead from the front and inspire the team. Concentrate on motivating your best people and don’t be
tempted to carry anyone who is not up to the job – this can be highly demotivating for the rest of the team.
7. Keep things fresh As obvious as it may sound, the key to motivation is to keep things fresh. Any job,
however much you enjoy it, can become monotonous. This is even more true for the call centre environment.
8. Small ‘quick fix’ prizesMonthly bonuses and incentive schemes are always useful,
but what will keep them motivated throughout the month is the small ‘quick fix’ stuff, the here and now, if you like. The
little prizes they can take away with them as soon as they win them (or hit target).
9. Training is always good, it keeps people up to date and focused on the job
Regular, effective and relevant training is massively important and a great motivator. If you want them to perform properly and consistently then you have to
give them the tools to do so.
10. Offer a nice clean working environmentYou need to make sure that the environment they are
working in is conducive to good performance. Everyone likes to work somewhere nice, clean carpets, working
computers and phones, a couple of nice plants.
11. Listening to your team We have found that the simple yet very effective “secret” to motivating a call centre team
effectively comes through how one views motivation. We run with the premise that it is impossible to impose motivation upon
people, you need to create an environment within which they can (and will) motivate themselves.
12. A team huddle at the start of the shiftA bit of fun can go a long way towards motivating staff and helps to energize.
At the start of shifts a quick ‘huddle’, not only to pass on bits of key information but to also share a topical joke or ‘vote’ on a true/false, can really wake people up! Far more effective than email bulletins that are rarely read!
13. Get the systems rightThe best way to motivate contact centre staff is to ask for their direct input. A key area for consultation is the
re-evaluation of the area where agents spend all of their time: the desktop.
14. Find out what makes staff ‘tick’ Find out what motivates each employee, and make
each individual feel that they have a part to play in the overall success of the business.
15. Introduce colour in the work spaceInspire your staff to work hard and strive for success. Call centers can be bland, so you can create a more
vibrant atmosphere by introducing colour in the work space, using motivational images and pictures to
brighten the area.
