The Story and Activities of Thai Muslim Medical Association

The Thai Muslim Medical Association is an assembly of the Muslim healthcare personnel aiming to provide medical services for the Muslim people. It was set up on November 20, 1982 with 300 registered members at the beginning. This assembly has organized mobile medical units for continuously giving medical services, free of charge, to people living in the Muslim communities in various areas around Bangkok and the suburbs as well as in some provinces. The budget for all expenses comes from donations by many charitable Muslims in Thailand as well as from some government-support organization.The objectives of the Association are as follows:1. To give healthcare services to people2. To provide health education to people3. To provide medical knowledge to people, according to the Islamic principle4. To enhance medical education and healthcare knowledge of the members in order to preserve quality of care5. To keep unity among its members of various healthcare professions6. To help its members performing their professional duties7. The Association has no political concerns Vision: The Thai Muslim Medical Association desires to be a source of inspiration and encouragement for The Muslim healthcare professions and those in other fields to take part in the process of giving medical care and health promotion to the Muslim people as well as people from all walks of life. The Association will endeavor to set up a Muslim Hospital in Thailand.

Various activities of the association at the present1. The mobile medical units have been set up and provided medical service, free of

charge, for the poor people in different Muslim communities around Bangkok and in some provinces continuously all year round. The unit was also set up at the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand and medical services have been in action every First Friday of the month.

2. The association has provided the circumcision surgery, free of charge, for the Muslim boy and men in various Muslim communities both in Bangkok and in some provinces in every region of Thailand, Up to this moment at lease 10,000 circumcision cases had been done by our team from the Muslim Medical Association.

3. Health promotion actions and academic meeting have been performed and the association has distributed health information for people by participating in healthcare seminars and has given healthcare education to Muslim people through all media outlets.

4. The association continuously takes part in the Maulid Festival of Thailand every year. The activities include providing medical services, poster presentation to give health education, general medical check up, blood test, and many other activities.

To look to the future, we are looking forward to the collaboration of the Muslim people from various sectors to give helping hands supporting the work of the association in order to reach its goal for the good health of Thai people.
