Important Update
• Due to predicted surf conditions that would adversely affect
the original swim course.
• In addition to advice from the Australian Bureau of
Meteorology, local professional lifeguards and the
Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club and in conjunction with
the ITU a decision has been made to revise the swim
course location.
• The location has moved along the beach.
• There will be no warming up on the bike course as the
roads will be in use for other events / logistics purposes

• Uniform and gear check (name, country, logos, ITU logo, zippers, race caps) – photos taken of each uniform.
Wearing a different uniform during the race = DSQ!
• Body marking check (both arms, both legs)

• Leave your personal gear in the Athlete’s Lounge

• Don’t leave your helmet fastened in the transition
The athlete who misses to comply with this rule will receive a time
penalty of 10 seconds in TA1
• Running Shoes in front of the box
• Named spare wheels to be check at athletes lounge then take them
to the wheel-stop located 200m north of transition (your
responsibility to deliver wheels, & collect after the race)
• Return your non-competition gear to the Athletes’ Lounge

Athlete Introduction:
• 15 minutes before start - line-up under the swim exit gantry
• When you are introduced, jog along the beach (500m) to
the platform
• Select your position and stay behind the line!

Athletes in position:
• The start can be given any time after the Race
Referee announces ”On your mark”
• Air horn blast
• The race starts
Athletes not moving forward at the start will receive
a time penalty of 10 seconds in TA1.

False Start Procedures
False start with many athletes:
• Several horn blasts
• Paddleboards will move in front of you
• Everyone goes back to her/his original start spot
Valid start with early starters:
• If a few athletes start before the horn and everyone
else starts with the horn. The false starter (s) will
receive a time penalty of 10 seconds in TA1.
• During the time penalty athletes can not take any
equipment!

• On your return, the road narrows as you turn left down beach
terrace then right through the expo & transition.
• Undulating and Technical
• 2 Wheel Stations
• 1 Neutral wheel station located at far bike turn; Campagnolo
& Shimano 11 speed
• 1 Team wheel station located north of TA
• Littering zones for the bike are before and after the neutral wheel
station at the far turn
• Lap Counter: at the turn as you exit TA
• Lapped athletes are out of the race
• First runner – last biker case. Once the first runner passes the
far turn on the run, any remaining cyclists are out of the race.

Run Penalty Box
Rule interpretation
Mount after the mount line: It has to be one contact of the athlete foot
with the floor after the mount line. If this contact doesn’t occur the action
is considered as mount the bike before the mount line.
Dismount before the dismount line: It has to be one contact of the athlete
foot with the floor before the dismount line. If this contact doesn’t occur
the action is considered as dismount the bike before the dismount line.
Discharge or store your equipment inside your designated area:
Leaving the equipment (swim cap, googles, helmet, etc.) in the
designated box.
Rack the bike inside your own space: In case of Individual bike rack, the
bike must be racked in the first transition by the rear wheel and in the
second transition by either of the wheels.
If during mount or dismount an athlete looses their shoe (s) or other
equipment they will be collected by TO’s and no penalty applies.

Post-race Procedures
• “Mixed Zone” - immediately after finish 1, 2, 3 with host
broadcaster first.
• Medal Presentation - protocol – immediately after races
• For awards, dress “up” with race uniform or country clothes
• Please follow the ambush marketing rules
• Hats/visors are allowed on the podium with maximum 1
sponsor logo having a maximum height of 4 cm and a total
area of 20 cm2
• Prize money is to be electronically wired to athletes by ITU
• Men’s bikes will be removed from Transition post race, and
taken to Athletes lounge.

Ambush Marketing Rules
• Ambush marketing is defined as:
“Deliberately using the opportunity of live television
and
media photographers to acquire additional exposure
for your
sponsor product, apparel or brand.”
• The consequence for this behavior is:
1. The athlete will immediately forfeit their prize money
for that event, as well as primes, if any;
2. If the athlete is part of the “gold group” this status
will be revoked for the remainder of the year.

• Photo ID is needed for every athlete to have ready for
Doping Control
Medical
• Only team medical officials area allowed in this area in
case there is an athlete from their team. Every NF can
have 1 team medical upgade pass, but only for team
doctors! The teams medical have to register through
the ITU online registration system.

• Every coach has to collect accreditation to be able to enter the
venue.
• Only Coaches who have been registered from their NF into the
ITU online system are entitled for an accreditation

• Section 2.8.b) - any kind of propaganda (religious,
political, racial etc.) will not be accepted;
• Section 2.12 - Exceptional conditions at an event;
• Section 5.2.b).(i).4thbullet - Juniors don't have to
respect the saddle position rule 5/2cm;
• 5.2.e.(ii) - Helmet must be used in all official activities
when the athlete rides the bike: competition,
familiarization and training sessions;

2015 Competition Rules updates –Elite draft legal events specific
• 6.2. Finish Definition - a.) An athlete will be judged as
finished, the moment any part of the torso crosses a vertical
line extending from the leading edge of the finish line;
• Section 7.1.b) - Racking the bikes in the transition;
• Section 7.1.g) - clarifications in cases athletes loses their
shoes/equipment at the mount/dismount line;
• Section Appendix F - There is no limitation of
manufacturers or sponsors on the helmet, but it has to be
custom made. Any added stickers of sponsors or
manufacturers will be removed.

Measurement of the course
• One coach per NF can have access to the Elite run course between 10:30 and 11:00 on Saturday for measuring the course.
• Vests will be provided from the LOC.
• Access will be given through the Elite athletes’ lounge
• Please register with the technical officials at the coaches’ accreditation distribution.
