A. A. Introduction and LASO Batch 2012 – 2013 Assessment

A prayer was led by Theresa and after the prayer, the introduction for the LTS begun.

Kris asked LASO what is LTS. The discussion went on and they concluded that the LTS should

not be seen just as a pass going to LASO but it is a training to develop and enhance the students’

leadership potential.

After defining LTS, Kris, together with the senior LASO officers, enumerated the objectives of the

LTS. Kris also said that the LTS’s manual should reflect the history of the batch’s term.

Sandra and Ivan presented their manual to AA and it focuses on communication, consistency, and

survival of the fittest. They also read the schedule, modules/group dynamics, and CD’s. The

problems with the group dynamics and CD’s they came up with are not related with their theme,

not that challenging, and it lacks learning objectives.

The group had a SWOT analysis of the LTS. The strengths they enumerated were the batch’s

manpower is strong because they have a large number of boys, they are really bonded and familiar

with each other, the experiences they had through the previous LTS’s, they are resourceful, their

batch is a jack of all trades, and they have the help of the Alumni Assembly. The weaknesses they

gave were their problem with their punctuality and consistency, they lack the drive to move

because of their laziness, most of them don’t take the initiative to move, they lack cooperation,

and they failed to influence others. Their opportunities are that they have authority and that they

attended the Facilitators’ training. Their threats are the CAT, varsity, the division of the batches,

conflict with their schedules, different priorities, most students think that they would just have a

hard time during LTS based on the previous LTS’s held and the administration might reject their

plans.

After the SWOT analysis, they had a batch assessment. Based on the assessment, their strengths

were their support from their batchmates and alumni, and that they are strong enough to stand and

prove their projects to the office. Their weaknesses were that they lack communication with each

other, they were inconsistent with their duties, there is a feud between batches, they don’t delegate

tasks effectively, others see them as “kabastos-bastos” and most students just focus on the

“serving” part of LASO. Their achievements were the 1st GA held by LASO, they were able to

manage and push through with the night party, they were able to raise a lot of funds during the

ALK and sportsfest, they had a truck for the motorcade, they participated in national conventions,

and the pageant went smoothly. They rated their performance with 6.83/10. Their goal was to

make LASO as grand as possible for ASJ’s 10th

year.

After evaluating, Kris told them that the batch just focused on leading and serving and they were

not able to achieve the inspiring part of being a LASO officer.

B. Facilitators’ Training Workshop

For the theme of the LTS, the batch should look at the problem of LASO externally and not

internally. As what is proven by the assessment and analysis, the problem is that LASO needs to

inspire others again. Because of this, the theme was changed to “LASO: Building a Stronger

Commitment through Inspirational Leadership.”

The LTS would now focus on commitment and inspirational leadership. Kris suggested them to

have a “Survivor” theme of LTS and the LASO officers agreed to have this. They have also

decided to call each committee a “Tribo” and each tribo will be handled by previous LASO

presidents. Other details of the LTS should be discussed and be decided by the officers.

Kris discussed the structure of the LTS manual.
