A guess my name ML articleby a male SGA, Earth

Someone handed me a Letterthat, although its been aroundfor many years, I had never readthe full version of. I can dis-tinctly remember readingJacques Elans comic renditionof this interesting Letter, butnever had I delved into the vol-ume and read it directly fromMO.

So, with text in hand, I meltedinto the dream world of the past, partaking of what can only bedescribed aswell, a MO Letter!

I was whisked away to aFrenchmans house, to hisgrapevine-covered driveway, watching Dad film his subjects, only to suddenly be interruptedby some crazy, speed-driven,shortcut-loving auto-maniacwith clearly no regard forsomeones backyard, let alonehis privacysending Dad run-ning for safety, along with hisequipment and those he wasfilming. This same act of lunacyrepeated by numerous offenderseventually pushed Dads pa-tience to the limit; add to thatmixture the pitter-patter of rain, and once more the cameramanand his subjects are running forcover.

Enter Dads big brother, whodecided that it was time to pullout his years of wisdom and sug-gest that Dad have a ministrychange. (Sound familiar?) Ah,but wait, all is not lost! Re-enterFrenchman (owner of the afore-mentioned house, grapevinesand shortcut, a.k.a. driveway)who wisely presents Dad withhis wee words of wisdom. Oui,oui, monsieur! His profoundstatement then sends us trek-king down the paths of history

to Miami and the restaurants of a direct descendant of John Wilkes Booth*, whomarried Dads sister at age __ ! (*Yes, he was the dude who was famous for assassi-nating Abe Lincoln in the booth.)

We are then treated to an entire overview of the restaurant business and(how does Dad know all these things?) its success/failure rate. And then

we move on to a slightly different topic what do you think is themost successful business there is? With a success rate of 99%?

Golly! Thats only one burned cookie out of every 100not abad track record, huh?

And talk about whos who? We have a guy namedClinton! Yes, I know thats the name of the president

of the United States, but no, thats not the dude weretalking about here. This Clinton guy started theClifton Cafeterias and developed a staple (food)that was served in a basement and was alsoshipped around the world to missionaries in manypoor countries. Click-click, next stop Timbuktu!

To top all this off, the whole Letter has some-thing to do with a theater! And did you know thatafter reading this Letter you will realize thatyoure not only a missionary, but also a ticketgiver or a ticket taker in the greatest theater

that has hit this Earth since the curtains went upon the Early Church?

Just as a dead give-away of what this Letter is,heres a quote in closing:

If youre not in our ______ (couldnt make it tooeasy now, could we?), youd better get in quick before

the whole System restaurant collapses and destroys allthose bodies its been feeding its poison! Amen? After this hearty summarization, is there any doubt in your

mind as to the title of this milestone epistle? If so, get out yourMO books or HomeARC and dig today!

(FZ: We will print the answer to this puzzler in the next issue!!)

Sharpening myprophecy scytheFrom Seiko (16, of Zac and Flame),Japan

Im learning not to justkeep my problems ortrials inside, but to castmy cares on the Lord. Ivebeen slacking off inhearing from the Lord, and the recent Wordabout prophecy hasconvicted me that Ishould be doing it everyday. The Lord is alwayssweet; He said that evenif I only have a small gift, not to worry, but justpractice using it.

Sometimes I getdistracted and think thatthe prophecy Im gettingis of my own thinking.Thisand being shyhinders me from givingprophecies out loud in a

meeting. Its that thoughtof saying something andthen wondering whatother people are going tothink of you. But recently, when having prophecytime with my parents, Ivebeen able to giveprophecies out loud.Thank You Lord! Im stillworking on it, and when Iget a prophecy I alwaystry to write it down. Eversince Ive been using thegift of prophecy, and ithas really helped me. TYL!

Our real treasuresFrom Elisabeth (11, of Abe andMercy), Taiwan

Recently I had beencomparing quite a bit, especially when going tothe public school where

I learn Chinese. I lookedaround me at all the rich, spoiled kids, and enviedtheir material things andhow they never gotdiscipline, and werentexpected to take care ofanything provided theykept up their studies. But then I had twowitnessing experiences, which helped me realizethe real treasures thatwe in the Family have.

The f irst onehappened when a friendinvited us to pickmangoes at his home inthe country. One of hisfr iends, an interiordesigner, also came withhis wife and eldestdaughter, Joanna. Wewitnessed to Joanna, and she ended uppraying with us rightthere, PTL!

But later we saw how

much she lackeddiscipline and training inher life. While walkingdown the road to thefruit trees she wasstomping her feet andwhining about how hotshe was, and how thesun was going to makeher skin dark. She wouldscream at her parents inpublic. We could tellthey were embarrassedand ashamed of her ;they were l ike herslaves. We thought,Boy, she sure is aspoiled teenager. Thento our shock we foundout that she was almost22 years old!

Two weeks later wewent to her house.Everything was so fancy!I was hit again with

comparing. Then mydaddy showed me anewspaper art ic leabout a lady whoseparents bought hereverything and spoiledher, and she was sorrythat she had neverlearned to takeresponsibility in life. She said that when shewas in high schooleverybody envied her,but now she enviedthose who had learnedto l ive within theirincome and stand ontheir own two feet. That article helped, butI was st i l l not ful lyconvinced. At times Ialso thought it wouldbe nice to be an onlychild, because then youcould have all the timeto yourself and therewould be no youngerkids to take care of. But

I soon found out itwasnt so.

A couple of dayslater, a cleaning lady inour compound broughtover her daughter, Lily,so I could make friendswith her. Though shewas an only child, hersituation andpersonality were justthe opposite ofJoannas. Lily told mehow all her parentsdreams and hopesrested on her, and howmuch pressure thatgave her. Her fatherwould often comehome drunk and beather. She was alwaysunder pressure abouther grades in school. Her mother would takeaway her spending

money and use it forherself, and then lie toher.

Then she told me, Iwanted a little brotherso badly, and finally mymother had one. I wasso glad. But then herface fel l . Motherdidnt tell me till later, but ... he died when hewas three days old. Idont know how. Myparents never speak ofhim.

She was on theverge of tears. Im soangry, she said. Whydid God make him die?Why my little brother? Why? Why? She wasgetting all worked upand I didnt want her toget too emotional, so Iquickly began to speakof something else. Inthe meantime mymother had been

witnessing to Li ly smother and prayedwith her to receive theL ord. Then Li ly smother came over andpersuaded herdaughter to pray aswell, PTL! Since thenLily has called me a fewtimes. All this made meso thankful to be in theFamily. And I sureunderstood that itwasnt so nice to be anonly child.

And the moneyflows in…From Aaron, Africa

Over the years wevealways had specialmiracles associated withour fundraising for the

work in Africa. Whilerecently in Europe for afew weeks offundraising, the Lordsupplied a friends housefor me to stay in.

Usually Im hoofing ittrying to squeeze moneyout of the air, but thistime I needed a break. Ididnt realize how busyId been in Africa overthe last few months. Soinstead of rushingaround trying to raisemoney, I just spent thetime reading, praying, listening to our Lover, and loving Him. I felt if Ijust spent time with myHusband, Hed bringalong any gif ts Hewanted me to have.Though all my sensessaid to worry, try, doIdidnt. I just waited atHis feet.

I spent my time loving

Him and doing a minimalamount of contactingpeople or anything to dowith supply lines. Andthe last day I was therethe Lord did it,miraculously supplyingover $3,500exactlywhat I needed!

Its funny that thiswould surprise me, asthe Lord has alwaysanswered my prayers. But this one was soeffortless, like a rewardfor spending time lovingHim. Its really been thecrux of changing mymode of operationcompletely. I want to bethat sample to those Illwork with and visit.

recorded what I heard and saw as it was happening.

(Jesus speaking:) Are you ready to go on a spirittrip? Okay. Close your eyes tight. Picture the circleof light up ahead. Youre rushing towards it moving at the speed of lightfaster than thespeed of light! Youre going faster and faster andfaster until you surge into it! Youre surrounded byitthe warmth, and the love emanating from it.Youre going, going, going until it bursts upon youin all its brilliance and glory, and you enter itas ifyou are being born, squeezing through yourmothers womb and into the bright light, where

everything is different, more brilliant, the soundsmore clear, music more pronounced, colors

more vibrant!I take you walking. We gently float

down to the grassthe springy, vibrant, emerald grass. Each blade is so alive it glowswith its own light. As we walk, we barelytouch the ground; just enough to feel thecomfort of the grass under our feet as wewalk down to the river. It is the river towash away the impurities of Earth and ofthe outside world. It is a river to washaway the hurts, the sickness, theforsakenness, the anger and thebitterness, and all of it. You just haveto plunge in and let go! It washes it allaway. So come with me now. Plungein!

The Caverns ofHeaven and theAmazing WaterWorld

One day I was feeling pretty sick. I had a slighttemperature and my whole body ached. I waslying in bed praying, as I couldnt sleep, and Iheard the Lords voice asking if I wanted totake a spirit trip.

Lord help me, often my first reactionwhen I hear the Lord trying to get throughto me is that I dont want to expend theeffort it takes to get a prophecy. I knowthat feeling is just a tool of the Enemy, asusually once I decide to go for it the Lordspeaks pretty easily. I just have to beopen and accept. TTL, He helped mepush away that initial laziness in thespirit and say yes to Him. Then I justhad to believe that what I was seeingwas of Him

From Kyeleen (21, of Jondy andRuth), China

Come, plunge in!Let the water swirlaround you![

(Spirit guide speaking:) I amGabriel, little Gabriel, the angelassigned to you

to take you on this spirit trip. Imso happy that I could do this foryou, because, the truth is, youll bemade well. [He was speaking of mysickness.] If you have faith andbelieve, anything is possible.

Come, plunge in! Let the waterswirl around you! Let it swirl aroundyour head, taking away your head-ache. Let it swirl around your body, taking the poisons from it. Let itwash your feet, healing them.Youcan be well if you only believe!

(Me, describing what I see:)Theres a fountain! Theres a foun-tain in the middle of the lake. Abeautiful, bursting, glowing, alive, vibrant fountain! Fantastic! It shootshigh, high, high; then pours down. Its wonderful! So much fun! Andwhen you stand under it, the dropsare not hard and painful; but lightas fairies, and beautiful as theycascade upon you! How wonderful! The magic, majesty and wonder ofHeaven is more than tongue cantell! More beautiful than I can say!More wonderful than can beexpressed!

(Little Gabriel:) Do you want to goto that same park the other teenswent to, or should I show you anew place? [I had started wonder-ing what we would do now. Ithought about that park the youngpeople had described in theirtestimony in the FSM. (See WayOut There, FSM 325.) As soon as Ithought of it, it was like I was there.I could see some of the things theyhad described like those funnychairs, etc. Thats why Gabriel askedif I wanted to go there. He had readmy thoughts. Actually, all ourcommunication was through ourthoughts.]

(Me:) I want to see a new place!(Little Gabriel:) Okay, come! Ill

take you into the caves. I know youlove caves, rocks and mountains. I

will show you the caves in Heaven!(Me, describing:) Beautiful!

Wonderful! The inner rooms ofthe caves are all of differentshapes. Theres water at thebottom of some of them. Its likean old sea cave where you takeyour boat in. You sail inthrough the small mouthof the cave. [Were sailingin a small gondola, withroom for only a fewpeople. The front of itcomes up and curvesaround and under like theending swirl of a fancyletter. During the rest ofthis trip its almost like I am alone,as I dont see Gabriel. I just feel hispresenceunobtrusive, butcaringly watching over me.]

Its shaped like a heart! [Theinside of the cave is like beinginside an enormous heart shape, and the entrance is also in theshape of a heart.] As you sailfurther in its quite dark, but notpitch black. As you go in you cansee clearly enough. Theres a kindof dim light thats coming in fromthe entrance. You can see wellenough to see people and things, but its too dim to see clearly. Youcan also see little sparkles hereand there reflecting off the roofand walls from the light shining inat the door. Not many, just somewinking on and off.

As we sail in, my guide lights alight. Wow! The transformation isphenomenal! The roof and thewalls are all covered in crystals, beautiful gems and stones, completely encrusted; when youlight a light, they blaze and glowand shine and reflect! The lightjumps and dances back and forth! All kinds of neat patterns of lightsreflecting back and forth.

The first room is shaped like aheart. The entire room is a heart. Then we sail on through a circle-shaped entrance and a small

narrow tunnelquite long, maybe ten or fifteenfeetuntil we enter the next room. This one is inthe shape of a ball, a great round sphere. He lightsthe candle againor the light, whatever it is. Theroom glows with brilliant blues and greens! The lightjumps and dances and reflects. It seems as if itsalmost too bright to look at, but it isnt, becausenothing in Heaven hurts.

This time I keep the candle lit as we sail through atriangular tunnel into the next cave. This one isreally neat. Here you can beach your boat and walk up on thegolden sand. As you run the sand through your fingers, itshines and twinkles like so many pieces of gold. I step uponto the sand. Looking around, I begin to notice all kinds ofneat shapes, fascinating shapes and ledges and outcroppingsall covered in this crystallized substance that makes it glowlike fairy caverns when you light a light.

From there I walk through a small doorway into the mostmassive cavern I have ever seen! There is nothing like it onEarth. Whew! Just fascinating! After coming through thatdoor I am left standing on a ledge overlooking a colossalscene. ... Amazing, totally amazing! Ive never seen some-thing this big! Every color of the rainbow is represented inthe light that shone from those walls! Huge stalactites andstalagmites! They must be hundreds and hundreds of feet! This cavern is so huge you cant even see the ends of it, orthe bottom! Im standing out on the edge of a small, rockyoutcropping with the entrance behind me looking out overthe precipice.

You look down, down, down as far as you can see, and youlook up, up, up as far as you can see! We must have beeninside a mountain or something to have it go up so high!Amazing! Purely amazing. I jump off! I want to fly down. Idont want to be afraid of heights, so I jump! And what doyou know ... I float down. When I turn and point my handsstraight in front of me like Im diving, I go faster, fasterand faster til I get a bit nervous and turn back aroundagain. (If youre floating down on your back, you goslow, but if you turn and go head-first with your handsin front of you like a dive you go faster and faster!) Itsso much fun! I keep trying it different ways as I floatdown to the bottom. Im also watching the amazingthings going by me, all the different rock layers in thewalls, the amazing formations ... stalactites andstalagmitesso awesome! Huge columns! Massive! Ivenever seen anything so big! Beautiful colors! All theearth colors! All the colors of the caves.

I go down, down, down. Finally, as I near the bot-tom, I notice the river. The water is still flowing in thebottom of the cave. It looks like a small stream, but as Iget nearer, I realize it is a wide, gushing river!Perhapshundreds of feet wide in some places and not morethen twenty in others. Amazing!

I decide to get in the river. As I lie down in theriver, Im carried along like a leaf in the current. Itswirls and swishes and washes me downstream! Ittakes me very carefully around rocks and bouldersand other things in the way as I just lie in it, givemyself up to it, yielding to its currents and let ittake me. On Earth this would be life-threatening,but Hereno, its only exciting! Its fun to see howthe water brings you almost dashing against a rock, andthen swirls you around at the last moment! Ahhh, talkabout a ride! Theres nothing in Disneyland or WaterWorld that could even come close. What a ride! What fun!

February 2000 | The Free Zine 7

Well, thats the end of this spirit trip. It was alot of fun, and Im so thankful the Lord let mehave it! I also asked my family to pray and anointme with oil, and immediately afterwards thefever and aching was gone. I hadnt been able toeat for two days, but I ate fried chicken andpotatoes right then and felt fine. TTL! Prayer stillchanges things!

Sometimes you dropalmost straight, then itgently lifts you beforeyou crash to the bottom, and you keep goinground and round andround.[

I wash along for hours, it seemslooking up, looking around! All kinds of neat little creatures live in the cave, inthe water of the cave. Funny little things Ive never seen before that pop up and say hi, then dive back down again. So cute! We dont have them on Earth, I guess. Maybe we do and I just havent seen them. Theyre kind of like littleotters, but not exactly. Like koala bears, almost, but sleek with funny little faces and ears sticking out. They pop upand go boo, or stroke you or give you a playful pinch as you rush by in the water. One of them is even bold enoughto jump up on my stomach (Im floating on my back) andchatter with me a little while.

As I began to near the outside, the cavern gets smallerand smaller. Finally Im lying flat on my back rushing

through this small tunnel, just like a water slide.Whew! What twists and turns

that tunnel takes! Im tellingyou, theres nothing like it

in Water World! Some-times you drop almost

straight, then itgently lifts you

before you crashto the bottom,

and you keepgoingroundand roundand round. You even go upward! The water current is so strong it eventakes you upwardup, up, up and up! Then you go over and down abit, then out again straight. Then finally you rush out of a littleopening. It just shoots you straight out the side of the mountain! You go falling, falling, falling hundreds of feet to the water in a lakebelow. Amazing! Talk about a ride!

You think youll hit hard, but you dont. You hit gently, and thewater closes in around you like a warm blanket. I realize the waterin the cave is a bit cooler than the water outside, but not so coldthat it bothers me. Just refreshing and wonderful, like a coolglass of lemonade makes you feel on a hot day.

Under the water of the lake, I see all these little creatures. Socute! I love the water. I always wanted to explore the water andthe sea and all the neat things underneath without having tocome up for air. So I begin to swim deeper to see all those funthings Ive always wanted to see.

I dont see any sunken ships. I guess they dont have shipsthat sink in Heaven. But there are all kinds of neat thingseven mermaids swimming around and playing under thewater. Theyre small, like the size of childrenor maybe Imjust seeing the children. So cute! Bobbing around with long, long golden hair. They dont wear tops. They just swim aroundwith their nice tails flashing, all these pretty colors orange, blue, green.

I see the little bears again. I dont think I managed to de-scribe them very well. Theyre not really bears. I dont knowwhat to call them, but theyre very cute, kind of like koalabears, but sleek and darker brown like seals, only they have littlehands and stuff, like koala bears maybe, or chipmunks, and theyhave little feet.

cries in the wilderness

So before ourteam left for

Slavonia, wedivided intodifferentprayer andp r o p h e c y

groups, andsought the Lord

about what to dothere. He said thatour mission was notonly to do shows, butto heal the manyhearts that have been

broken and wounded by thewar and turmoil there. With that

commission from the Lord, we set offto what was to be one of our mostinspiring and thrilling road trips to

date, as we saw the Lord work won-derfully with each step we took.

Upon arrival, Darren escortedus into the main office of thehandicapped center to meet Maryand others who had been eagerlyanticipating our visit. One wheel-

chair-bound columnist for the localnewspaper asked us for an interview. It

turned out to be quite a witness to all thosepresent, and from that point on if anyone asked about

our work or who we were, our friends simply repeated what we hadsaid in this interview.

From Lauren (19), BosniaAn initial road team to eastern Slavonia (North-

east Croatiaone of the worst-hit areas of theformer Yugoslavia) met some potential and sweetpeople who were interested in our work. They invitedour whole team to come perform in their school, kin-dergarten, orphanage and handicapped center. Oneof these precious sheep was Mary, who works at thelocal radio station and with different NGOs (non-governmental organizations). Shes very idealisticand works hard trying to restore the area and itspeople. Then there is Darren, our translator, whoskipped work to show us around and help us in anyway possible.

We drove to our hotel where wed be stay-ing for the next four nights. They had dinnerwaiting for us, and donated all our meals dur-ing our entire stay. The owner insisted thatthe seven of us have a room each, saying hewas honored to let us stay in his hotel. We feltlike ambassadors, being given the red carpettreatment everywhere we went. It was a spe-cial treat from the Lordlike a reward for ourwillingness to live a rather spartan lifestyleback home in Bosnia!

A few of our shows were done in a city thatis known for having been the most destroyedin all of Croatia. As we drove through the city,on every side were snow-covered ruinsa con-stant reminder of the horrors of the not-so-distant past. A once beautiful and prosperouscity had been almost completely wiped out.Thousands of graves and land mines coveredwhat was left. There is little joy or even expres-sion on peoples faces; the scars of war live on.

Mary was especially concerned for the youth, who still live in fear and hardly ever leave theirhomes. She begged us to come back in the springto do a concert for them with those very mean-

ingful songs you sing. She conducted a very fa-vorable radio interview with us. We sang, and sheplayed a few songs from Uncharted on the air as

well. Her radio show is very popular, as it broad-casts from a very radical and controversial per-

spective. So the message was very widely spread, withseveral million people hearing our beautiful songs and

message. On our last day we made balloons and sang for the

handicapped center. By the end of our stay everyonewas pleading with us to come back soon, as they said

their heartfelt and teary farewells. It was truly a healing mission, as the Lord had said, and

we hope to return soon to continue on. There is so much todo and many more war-torn people who need His comfort,

love and healing. We need to encourage them that there willcome a time when all wars will end, and their hearts will finally be

mended!We really need your

help here! IS THE LORD

Little steps big miraclesFrom Techi (18), Honduras

My family and I are pioneering Honduras. The Lord has done many miracles since we arrived, supplying all our needs. Id like to share the miracles the Lord did on a faith trip to La Ceiba, acoastal city.

The Lord showed us to go there, and so we went, trusting Him entirely. Once there, we met avery sweet lady who owned a hotel. After telling her about our work, she helped us with a room forour entire stay. GBH!

One afternoon while witnessing to two hotel clerks, we noticed a young man on the phoneand gave him a tract. When he finished his call, he came up and asked where we were from andwhat we were doing. He was very impressed with our work and turned out to be the 20-year-old DJof a very popular youth radio program in Ceiba. He invited us to talk on his show.

We prayed and the Lord encouraged us to go, even though we were a little nervous. So weexplained a bit about our work, and were able to give the salvation message and pray on the air. This program has an audience of at least 20,000 young people, so we pray that some prayedalong with us.

We continued to witness to this young man, and he was very impressed by us and how theLord supplies all our needs. He told us, On the radio I play music for young people, and Id likeyou to give them the message you gave me. The Lord did it, and we never lacked anything. All tosay, it was a miracle-filled faith trip. All glory to Him!

From Joel (Techis dad): While out DTD we met Julia, a Lebanese girl, who owns a fabricshop. She bought Countdown to Armageddon, and repeated the prayer at the end of the videoseveral times. She is very interested in our work here. When we told her we live by faith as missionariesand dont have any furniture, she offered us her own. TYJ! The Lord always supplies!

Our rock concert blastFrom Paolo (new disciple), Italy

A rock musician friend of ours told us about a big festival at a nearby town, so we got a clowning teamtogether, and headed off to witness there. First we did ballooning, but we had gotten there late and thepeople soon started going back home. While discussing whether we should head home, our friend told usthat in a nearby square there was a rock concert going on. He said, I could take you to the concert with me,but you know, people are a bit weird there. But if you dont mind that...

We told him more about our work and how we dont have problems with places like that, so he took usto the square where the rock band was getting the crowd wildly excited. The environment was quite something, with tough-looking bikers on Harley Davidsons, black leather jackets, all drunk and freaked out, yellingalong with the noise of the concert.

A. got the idea to make a balloon sword (symbolizing the Word), and jump on the stage and give it tothe singer, along with a Y2K tract. At first one of the bodyguards stopped him, but then seeing he wasdressed up as a clown, he allowed him on the stage. A. gave the lead singer the balloon and tract, whiledancing along with him as if he was part of the show. The singer stopped singing, while the rest of the bandkept playing, and read the tract right there on the stage, with the whole crowd watching him.

When the music stopped we approached the musicians. Almost immediately the singer prayed withus to receive Jesus, with all the others watching. Next the bodyguard got saved, then the other musicians. Some of the biker fans who had been watching prayed with us as wella total of 19 people!

It was incredible to see these tough-looking people so receptive to the Word of God and to a radicalJesus Who wasnt there to offer them a religion, but instead to challenge them with a spiritual revolution! Wetold them that Jesus was the only true revolutionary, Who offers them the freedom that they had been singingabout! This came as a surprise to them, and turned them into hungry lambs. Thank the Lord for the HolySpirit, wild and free, that once again led us to do something unorthodox and radical to win His lost sheep! The Revolution for Jesus goes on!

Golden Butterflys MessageFrom Delight, Italy

One of our friends, Gaetano, brought his 14-year-old Down syndrome son to our first Open the Door for theChildren meeting. The Lord spoke to my heart afterward about showing love to this boy, and how he has a veryprecious soul, even if he cant show it.

Later on, at our teamwork meeting, I was having united prayer and I asked for a spirit helper. When we prayed,I got a vision of a little blond-haired boy, smiling and waving at me. I heard the name Gabriel. Since Gabriele is thename of Gaetanos son, I first thought that the little spirit helper was telling me that he wanted to help Gabriele.

But later I had the distinctimpression that this little boywas Jerry and Mariannes Downsyndrome child. When I sharedthis with Simon and Abigail, they told me that Marianne andJerrys son was named Gabriel, which I hadnt remembered. Then we realized that he hadbeen telling me his name! Wereve ry thankful for Gabriel spresence, and reading histestimony in the FSMs (See FSMs193-194) gave me the vision andinspiration for any future visitsby Gaetanos son. TYJ!

out their message. They look for those who have the gift of receptivity, thus those who are receptive must take carewho they listen to and obey, as they will influence so many other people. Thats why Jesus said that you would be heldresponsible for every idle word that you speak, for the testimony you give. And if you give place to anger, you open achannel to the Enemy. (End of message.)

BLEATS FROM

THE SHEEPRhoda

FROM ANGIE, CHINA

Every week we visit anEnglish salon. Though wecant witness openly, it

is a good way to makefriends with English-speaking Chinese. One

night Rhoda, a girl who

visits the salon regularly, came and asked if wecould talk privately. She shared her heart, and

told me about her life and trials. I told her thatas much as I wanted to help her I couldnt, but

that Jesus could. This idea was new for her, butafter some time she received the Lord. She was

radiating with joy, and couldnt stop thanking me.The next week she gave me this letter. I know

that there are so many others just like this girl. Please come to China and help us reach them!

(Excerpts from Rhodas letter:) Before I knewyou, sometimes it seemed like I was trapped in a

maze; loneliness was all that was inside of me. Itwas darkno friends, no future, no happiness or

understandingonly myself. Day after day, nomatter how I tried, I couldnt get through that

maze. There was no one to lead me out. Nobodyreached out to help me. I had lost faith. I didntbelieve in anyone, not even myself. I felt nobodyliked me, nobody cared; nobody wanted to talk to

how to live again, how to face people and theworld. I see light and I am learning to be strong

introducing...when the

our adventure.Happily for us, the back of our van sported a

comfortable bed, in which we two were quitecontent to finish off our nights sleep. Also alongfor the ride was our almost human dog,Joshua; being a dear son to Andrew andMiracle, he had authoritatively claimed anunoccupied seat near the front. For our bravedriver, Andrew, life was not quite so luxurious, but I comforted myself that along with thisburden came the blessing of being the only maleon the journey. He had an alert spouse at hisside, so Sharon and I had nothing to fear as welay down for a lengthy doze.

Now, at six A.M., we watched the radiantdawn settle across the sky, heralding the firstday of our long-anticipated adventure.Continuing towards the Montenegrin border, enroute to our final destination, we soon foundourselves on the main road. (This could moreaccurately be described as a rear-bruising, hair-raising mountain pass, hovering on the edge offormidable cliffs.) After nearly an hour of drivingwe arrived at the bordera makeshift lean-towith a string stretched between two trees, anda rumpled border guard in pajamas. (Okay, slightexaggeration, but I assure you, the rest of thestory is genuine!) The guard wearily looked usover, his face pressed against the window glass, peering inside.

Passports! he grumbled, then grunted ashe studied our photographs.

Strolling towards the back, he grinned atoothless grin as he opened the door to discovertwo disheveled, semi-sleeping girls in the back.(A grin that sent those female hostagethoughts flooding through my mind all over

WAR DRUMS SILENTARE

From Vicky (17, of Daniel and Meekness), Bosnia

DI suddenly woke up; my body jolted a few

inches into the air as the vans wheels bouncedthrough yet another pothole. My eyes jerkedopen, and I looked out the window.

It took a few seconds to register mysurroundings. There were hills covered withtrees. The rays of sun streaming through thevent in the roof probably accounted for myimpression of parched desert land, of which Ihad been so vividly dreaming only momentsearlier. We had indeed paused to ask directions, butagain, different from my dreamit was ayoung boy we had approached. His attire couldnot accurately be described as old rags, nor didhe quite resemble an old, withered woman. And, alas, we were still driving throughhomeland Bosnia.Alas, because we still hadapproximately fourteen more hours of drivingtill we would reach our goal: Pristina, in Kosovo.

Fourteen hours, that is, if we were toencounter smooth driving the whole way. Noneed to scare ourselves with the possibilities ofroadside bandits, or corrupt border police whomight take a liking to strange foreign womenand keep them as part of their prospering bridalcollection.

I closed my eyes again. Our journey hadbegun at four A.M., when we had pulledourselves out of bed, piled into the pre-packedvan, and headed off. (If only it actually was aseasy as I just made it sound!) I shared the backof the van with Sharon, who had arrived fromfar-off lands only a few hours before ourdeparture. Barely had she stepped off the buswhen the details of her next trip were explainedto her. After a meal, a shower, and three hoursof sleep, she was whisked into the throes of

again.) I heaved a sigh as he closed the door, handed us our passports, and waved us overto the side. I later discovered that thenecessary payment would have normallybeen a considerable sum, but after anexplanation of our work we had been letthrough only paying about half.

We spent the entire day traveling throughbeautiful Montenegro, with an occasionaltank-up stop at a gas station, and for us juiceguzzlers in the back to tank out at theresident squat toilets (or, more accurately, dirt holes).

A number of times we were halted by localpolice, who were eager to eitherdemonstrate their superiority, or relieve usrich foreigners of a couple of marks under

the excuse of speeding or some other phonyoffense. We found, however, that most ofthem were quite kind and maneuverableafter a smile or two, and an explanation ofour good works (sometimes with the helpof a bribe of some chocolate, or a pair ofsocks). Through it all, we only ended uppaying money once, and just ten Germanmarks. This, after a look at the recipient,we quickly categorized as CTP.

PristinaI shall spare the innocent reader the

microscopic details of our journey, lest thisturn out to be a hardcover book, withcaptions on the back reading: Two eyelidsand a thumb down! Suffice it to say: Wearrived in Kosovo.

At present there is no border for enteringthe country. After fifteen hours of driving(or should I say napping), my rump skippeda beat, and I invented a soothing song

entitled, Were AlmostThere.

All around I could seethe most obvious effectsof the recent war: brokenbuildings, rubble, androofless houses. A keybridge had been bombedout, so we waited for anhour as the line of vehiclesahead of us slowly inchedtheir way into a rockyditch, then up the slopeleading back to the road(which, though far fromsmooth itself, felt like silkcompared to the previousone). I watched as the

truck ahead of us inchedon, then tipped

precariously to theside as its right

wheels sank intoa pothole. To myrelief, itmanaged tostraighten outagain, butthat relief wasshor t - l i vedwhen Irealized that itwas our turn.

I held mybreathpraying,

reciting the 23rdPsalm, and solemnly

promising never to bebad again. The prayingmust have worked, because we survivedand finally ended upback on the road, and a little closer toour earthlydestination.

The rocking, bouncing vanrolled into sweetstillness, parkedamid a row ofvehicles on the sideof the street. Iopened the curtainsand peered out thewindow. The walkingstreet was fairly crowdedwith stylishly dressed, laughing and talkinggroups of young people, strolling about. A feelingof freedom and joypermeated the air.

Somehow it just didnt match myexpectations of how Id thought this city, sofreshly emerged from a war, would look.

Across the street was a medium-sizedbuilding, the large letters at the top heraldingThe Grand Hotel. It was the spot wherewed prearranged to meet up with the teamwho had already settled in the area. We heardlaughing voices, as Tim and Praiseapproached our van, and greeted us withwarm smiles and hugs. They instantly struckup a conversation with Andrew and Miracle, explaining that the rest of their team was ata local concert, and would be here shortly.

We crossed the road and entered thehotel, in hopes of using the bathroom. Fivestars proudly stood at the top of the building, but upon entering the bathroom, wediscovered the regular squat toilets we hadencountered at Podunk gas stations alongthe way. Despite its supposed higherstandard, this bathroom was no cleaner. Ieagerly searched for a mirror, dreading thesight I knew Id find, but was spared fromthe view, since there were none on the rawcement walls. No water came from the tapseither ... oh well!

In the lobby the setting was presentable, however, and as we later learned, the hotelhad only recently been returned to itsoriginal use as a guest hotel, having first beenused to house refugees, and then for visitingNGOs (non-government organizations).

Back at the van, a small group emergedfrom the throngs of weekend

youngsters, and we greeted the rest of theteam. David (I5, of Tim and Praise), Michael(an outgoing and comical young Albanianlive-out) and Esther (2I, another Albanian

live-outbeautiful, sweet and spunky). The men drove the vehicles to the

nearby student dorm where the ownerhad so kindly agreed to let us stay forfree. The rooms were simple but nice, each with their own bathroom, andyes, a MIRROR (groan). Wediscovered that for the last few days, the whole city had been plunged intotimes of frequent waterlessness(okay, so its not in the dictionary!) andwe had to grow accustomed to thetimings of its sudden and wonderfulappearance. After the first day, Iinvented a sort of childs rhyme to helpme remember the essential, basic scienceof existing here:

Morning time:Rush out of bed,Jump in shower,Wash body and head.Just a trickle,But twill do;Would have been moreIf youd been first in the cue.Daytime: Dont bother,It probably wont be there.Dont look in the toilet,Unless you want a scare.Evening: Youll find a dropAround nine or ten. Please wash underarms,If you want to meet men.Bedtime: When you need it most,The water is gone.Learn to save some in a bottleWhile the pressures on.

Any future eccentrics who are consideringbraving this region are advised to learn theabove rhyme, although (as is likely with theever-changing situation) you may find thetiming slightly altered. Or perhapsas apessimist might warnthere could be nowater at all.

Here are some facts and figures about theculture and surroundings:

It seems most of thedrivers here are crazy;maybe its a manifestationof the traumaticexperiences theyve beenthrough, or merely adesire to put their recentlyattained freedom to use. Most likely the reason forthis uncouth drivingbehavior is thedisorganization ofthings in general, including trafficpolice andstoplights.

One must alwaysbe aware of themany buried landmines that are justwaiting to bestepped on.Numerous innocentpeople have fallenvictim to these terribleremnants of war. Becauseof this we only walked onthe streets, not steppingoff the walkway unless the

groundh a d

obviously beenstepped on recently.

A n o t h e routstanding factor ishow many foreigners

are roaming thestreets, either in

matching army jeepswith KFOR (Kosovo

force) heralded on theside, or standing guard. The

general feeling of the peopletowards the many British troops

is good; often you see people wavingat a passing jeep filled with soldiers.International police forces are stationed hereas well; you may see a sweaty foreignpoliceman in the throes of guiding trafficand trying to comprehend the Balkan ways.Besides these peacekeepers, there are

The history of the Kosovo conflict dates back centuries to the Ottoman Turkish empire that ruled the Balkansand that favored the Moslems over the Orthodox Serbs. The recent events leading to NATOs involvement inthe area began with the breakup of Yugoslavia. The Serbs who were afraid of losing Kosovo, revoked aprevious agreement granting the province a large level of autonomy. The ethnic Albanian population, now in the majority, were reduced to second class citizenship and an armed liberation movementarose. Severe repression by the Serbian military and civilians ensued and alleged atrocities werecommitted by both sides but largely by the Serbs. This at first triggered international sanctions. The Serbs reacted violently committing further atrocities and began to ethnically cleansethe province forcing nearly all Kosovo Albanians to leave the country.Eventually, after an ultimatum given to the Serb government was not met, NATOwarplanes began bombing Serbian positions in Kosovo and even Serbia proper, including the capital, Belgrade. After 11 weeks of extensive bombing, the BosnianSerbs withdrew their forces from Kosovo, ending the war at lest for now.Currently, soldiers of KFOR which includes mostly NATO forces but alsosome Russian troops are on active peace patrols hoping to establishlaw and order, and to restrain continued conflict between rival factionsin the area.

swarms of aid agencies with theirnames plastered on their mini-vans and trucks. Theres no doubtwe looked somewhat out of place, driving around in our rusty, rainbow-curtained van.

Dont talk so loudPeople here are extremely sweet and

helpful. Most speak English quite well, andwill go to any lengths to be hospitable. Themajority dress quite fashionably, not too farto either extreme as far as being conservativeor revealing.

According to the locals, during Serboccupation there were strict 8 oclockcurfews; anyone caught outside after thattime was harshly punished. So this new eraof freedom comes as a great joy to thepeople, and evenings are a time for

celebration. Bars areopen; however, discos stillremain closed out ofrespect for the greatnumber of Kosovars stillmissing.

Resentment againstSerbs runs extremely high.Speaking the Serbo-Croatian language isforbidden, and greatlyresented (which we had toadjust to, as our showswere in Serbo-Croatian!).According to one of ourfriends, they are trying to

enact a law that wouldfine anyoneoverheard using thelanguage! Signsbearing Serbianwords are paintedover and theAlbanian translationscrawled over it.Previous Serbresidents have been

kicked out, and someof their houses

burned. KFOR soldiersguard remaining Serb

churches 24 hours a day,against possibledestructors.

These feelings are

understandable at times dueto the large numbers ofpeople who sufferedatrocities at the hands of theSerbs. I was talking with ayoung guy and after I told him

I live in Bosnia, he asked if Ispoke any Serbo-Croatian. Iproceeded to rattle off a few

words. Alarm quickly came tohis face as he darted his headabout, his eyes scanning ineach direction. He spoke ina hushed whisper: Donttalk so loud! If anyonehears you...

Along with dislike ofSerbs comes a highnationalistic pride. On oneoccasion, a friend invitedus to a student party. Once

inside, we were instantlyoverwhelmed by the

traditional Albanian musicbooming in the crowded room.

The elegant and fashionablydressed teenagers were in a massive

line doing a simple national Albaniandance routine. Right leg, left leg, cross, step, right leg, left leg ... and on and on.

It looked like something Id have expectedfrom a group of white-haired, traditionallycostumed older men and women on anational holiday. Yet here was a crowd ofteens and young adults, dressed moreappropriately for a stylish disco, dancing thenational dance their ancestors probablywouldnt have done when they were theirage. According to our Albanian live-outs,none of them would have done it either ayear ago, but now they did the same steprepeatedly, for song after song, with a prideand bounce to their steps.

I eyed them curiously for a few songs, tillI was invited to join in. The step lookedsimple enough, so I clasped hands andbegan the dance. Soon the room grew socrowded with aspiring dancers that my toesbegan to ache considerably from beingtrampled onnot to mention my armbecoming semi-dislocated from being pulledevery which way. The dude on my left wasso distracted by beautiful Esther, who heldhis other hand, that he began to lose thebeat completely, and I found myselfsmashing into him every time I followed thesynchronized line on the right of me doingthe step, cross, step. ... Oh, well, at least Ican say I did it!

Clowning upOn most days we did at least one show as

bouncy, happy clownsperforming magic

tricks, games, songs and meaningful skits. The performances were enjoyed almost asmuch by us actors as by the audience, perhaps because of the adventure thatcomes with knowing one is about to comethis close to a real-life saw pretending to cutyou apart, or a pan flying towards your headas a professed anesthetic. Such was the casein our Doctor Skit, in which a patient isrelieved of the clutter ailing her heart, andin its place comes love, joy, kindness, sharing, etc. One noteworthy downside to having toclown-up each day is the spaghetti facethat comes from a painted smile stubbornlyinsisting on leaving a reminder of itselftherewhich leaves us hoping it will remainas determinedly in the hearts of theaudience.

Our evenings were spent passing outtracts in the walking street among thethrongsand throngs there were! We hadto practically stand back to back in a forcefield from the reaching, grabbing groups ofpeople who were all trying to get a tract. Ihave rarely experienced people more sweetand receptive than here!

Time would fail to tell of all the otheradventures we encountered; my mind wouldalso suffer a major breakdown trying tocompile them all in a decent, readable way.So youll just have to believe me when I saywe had a truly marvelous, crazy, interestingtime, and well move on in attempting tomake this short ...(right!).

JakovaThe day we left Pristina, the streets were

crowded with flag-waving citizens, triumphant and nationalistic. It was theNATO deadline for the disarming of the

Kosovo Liberation Army(KLA). The troops paradedthe streets, along withthrongs of people

honking horns, singingand shouting. Amidstall this stood our van, inching its waythrough the traffic, biding our time withan occasional waveout the backwindow at someheroic soldier.

We finally made itout of the crammed

streets, and after a fewhours of driving we

reached Jakova, our nextstop. Other members ofour team had gone onahead to seek out roomand board for us: a big, empty farmhouse! Yeah, thats right!Cows, pigs, flies and all! The dearfriend who gave us freeuse of the place informedus that it hadnt beenoccupied for ten yearsit smelled like it too!

The city of Jakova wasabout 70% ruined, with avast number of buildingsburnedso muchdestruction! We did ourperformance many times, and passed out theremainder of ourhumanitarian aid to theseneedy, desperate,

and extremely thankful people. Many havenothing left, and live in tents or shacks.

One evening a friend led us down a darkalleyway in the center of town, to a hugeheap of rubble. This, he explained, had oncebeen the town center and main hangout;now a ghost town. His eyes grew moist as herecounted all the things he had done in thisvery spot; the majority of his memories hadhappened where we now stoodon thatheap of broken glass and concrete. As anobserver, its sometimes easy to overlook thegreat personal effect that this war has hadon countless people who have lost family, friends, homes, and so much more.

We spent our last night in a former hotel, now a refugee center operated by sweetyoung Czech volunteers. They generously letus use their clean, simple rooms where weslept on mattresses, since there was nofurniture. Early the next morning we startedon our long journey home. At eight oclockthat evening we arrived at our home, sweethome in Bosnia, determined to makeanother trip in the near future.

A: 13,000*

A few days after moving into our new apartment, I found that themusic from the nearby pub was much louder than I had expected. Afew times I had to ask the owner of the pub to turn the music down. Iprayed for the Lord to touch her heart so she wouldnt turn the musicup again.

Then two weeks ago, at 5 A.M., after a troubled night with severalnoisy street fights, I awoke to the sound of breaking glass. I looked outthe window but seeing nothing, I started nursing the baby. (TTL shekept me awake!) I kept hearing the sound of breaking glass, whensuddenly I smelled smoke and saw flames through the window! Ijumped up and woke the others, and ran out of the building with thebaby, barefoot and with only my nightgown on. Flames five metershigh were shooting out the windows of the pub, and smoke waspouring out of the windows of our apartment. Thank God the firemencame at that time.

God bless Simon, Kelly and François, who went back in with afireman to get some clothes and baby needs through the thick smoke. We were allowed to return to the apartment by mid-morning, to findeverything super smelly and two bedrooms full of soot. The happyending, even though we feel bad for the people of the pub, is thateven though we had quite a smell of smoke, we are getting a goodamount of money from the fire insurance for the full cleanup, andthere is no more noisy music at night.Rom 8:28!
