Measurement Section, including Additional Narrative Remarks APPENDIX A: Description of product A.1 General overview SMITH LIGHT/EXIN LIGHT is portable LED light system, one side or both sides. It is operated with 12V lead acid battery. It consists of two boxes, one is battery box, the other is LED box. There are two boards, main PCB board , connection plate and LED main board and one optional temp. protective board encapsulated in the battery pack. It is optional to have 144 LEDs or 288 LEDs. A.2 Spark ignition consideration A.2.1 Resistive spark ignition A maximum voltage of the battery is 16.02V and the maximum current is limited by resistors to 1.69A (Ex 90L-T2) or 600mA(Ex90L-T4). There are no other sources of voltage or current in the apparatus. There is no voltage or current enhancement circuit. So the voltage or current has a safety factor of 1.5 for resistive circuit of ⅡB (Ex 90L-T2) or ⅡC (Ex90L-T4). A.2.2 Inductive spark ignition There are no inductors. So no further consideration is required. A.2.3 Capacitive spark ignition The total capacitance is 0.42μF. So the capacitors has a safety factor of 1.5 for capacitive circuit of ⅡC at the voltage of 16.02V. A.2.4 Combination of inductive and capacitive spark ignition Refer to A.2.2. A.2.5 Shunt short-circuit (crowbar) spark ignition Not applicable. A.2.6 Other spark ignition considerations Not applicable. A.3 Thermal ignition consideration A.3.1 Temperature for small components Those resistors, with surface area less than 20mm2, have been calculated by thermo-resistance and maximum consumption power, considering the maximum ambient temperature of 40℃. Those are less than 275℃,which is permissible for T4. The maximum surface temperatures of all other electronic components have been calculated by thermo-resistance and maximum consumption power, considering the maximum ambient temperature of 40℃. Those are less than 130℃,which is permissible for T4. A.3.2 Wiring within apparatus The internal wiring has a minimum cross-sectional area of minimum 0.14mm2. Since the maximum current is limited by the fuse to 0.34 A, this complies with the requirements for T4. A.3.3 Tracks on printed circuit boards The printed circuit boards are 2 layers, 1.6 mm thick and have a minimum of 18 μm thick conducting tracks. The minimum track width on the boards is 0.7 mm(EX90L-T2) or 0.4mm(EX90L-T4). This meets the requirements of the standard for T4. A.4 Rating of components A.4.1 Resistors The resistors used as infallible components were metal-film and operated within the 2/3 of ratings. Components code Rating(W1) Rating

B.1.2 Results No damage invalidate the intrinsic safety was observed. B.2 Battery test Equipment Tested: 10 FM/BB127 Date of Test (yyyy/mm/dd): 2012/7/24~8/10 Clause and Standards: IEC 60079-11:2006 clause 10.5 B.1.1 Test procedures The batteries were charged and discharged twice. Then the capacities were verified in accordance with manufacturer’s specification. Then they were fully charged. The battery was short connected until fully discharged and the thermocouplers were placed on the hottest point to measure the maximum temp. reached. Then that maximum temp. was corrected to the maximum ambient temp. of 40℃. At the same time, observe whether any leakage happened. The test was conducted on 10 samples. B.1.2 Results No leakage of battery was observed. The maximum surface temperature of battery was 167℃. It complies with the requirements of temperature class T2 at ambient temp. of 40℃. For T4 application, thermo protective resistor was used and encapsulated with battery.
