Within The White (An early morning view of the White Desert in Gujarat, s observed and felt while standing right in the heart of the desert. The long stretch of grey road that runs alongside with the grey clouds atop was a sight of beauty and enchantment.)

    Uncoupled from this

    illusory world, On some distant

    solitary ground, I stand spellbound.

Mesmerized by this modesty of white,

    Accompanied by the fascinating horizon,

    With a tinge of golden,

From the first ray, Of the rising sun.

    The damp mud scent,

    Lingering in the air around,

Indicating the arrival, Of a long awaited

    shower, To blemish this com-

    plexion, Even more fairer.

    I watch the unending

    grey lane, Taking my tempta-

    tions towards eternity.

The divine vista , Captures me in its

    vicinity.

Great white arcs from the black-ened heavens Blinded mine eyes all night long, Thunder cracked above my head, scaring me; Yet, it drew me towards it, all night long. I opened my eyes and found myself

In a crystal clear world, With little fishes swimming

around In the majestic blue ocean.

I rubbed my eyes to have a clear

vision, But I sure was spellbound and

astound When I knew I was crowned

As the supreme, just like Posei-don.

I felt so proud and powerful

When I was given the Trident, I had a throne, embedded with

shells And a whole new kingdom to

    explore!

I sat on one of my carriages Which were pulled by dolphins, And was set to explore, the di-

vine And heavenly paradise for sure.

As I swam across the ocean,

I saw fishes, having all colours of the rainbow,

It was a feast to the eyes As it was an earthly paradise.

I continued my journey though And followed a little sea horse,

Which led me to a place I had always admired.

It took me right in front of

A dark and deep trench, I always had a fancy for them Because of the mysteries they

    unfurled.

I was in dead earnest and Desperately wanted to go in, I could see something moving

Inside a cave in the trench.

Something huge came out, and closer

It came. I was scared, like never before

And jumped high up and fled, I was sweating but was saved for

THE POETRY SAGA A poem I was trying to write one,

A humorous one sprinkled with fun. Every evening I usually sit & try,

And end up with torn pages and a sign!

Everyone in my class was very busy; Writing poetry with words both difficult

& easy. Only I kept on scribbling with my pen

All my effort to write was in vain.

In the morning, my friends would say How a thought came their way. And very soon words flew free, And behold!...they had poetry!!

Like a good friends they would tell me

to take time, And try and write a few rhyming lines.

Maybe look for a suitable palce, To sit quietly and to chase

The thought that ran through my mind, And a poem I could surely find.

Give it a try...they would say,

And a poem will surely come your way. Keeping in mind what theyd said,

And remembering all the poets Id read, I set forth with a pen in my hand

To fulfil this errand Lokking for a place that would help me,

    Write my very first poetry!!

Wherever I went, poets were there, Greeting me with a competitive stare!

The look on their face as if to say- Two poets cannot share the same place!

So I went looking for a tree, That would help my thoughts flow free, But Alas! The whole day I spent without

    even a line of poetry.

And believe me, wherever I went, A poet or poetess happened to be,

Sitting there writng poetry Classmates, friends and educators too, Were only thinking of what to do, To

make the words fall in patter, So that the poem was accepted and not

    returned.

I felt ashamed to say, That I was unable to find a way

To make my thoughts & feelings rhyme, Maybe I needed some more time.

So dear friends, you can see Poetry is not my cup of tea,

A poetess is the last thing that I can be.

  • THE REPLY The world says you will always be here But if so, where will you be? If so, why not be with us? Why not laugh with us, why leave us here crying? You are gone, yes you are And nothing can change that truth You look down at us from this rollercoaster ride of yours, You feel proud, but ever thought of us? Your heart does not flutter, but ours' lie shattered here, You were ready for ages, but ever thought of us? Go on then, enjoy your ride above, Meanwhile we'll just mourn here And pray that thy faith be well-placed And He leave not your hand. But leave aside the we, what about me? What about our fights, who's the winner? Did you just flee because I was winning? Instead of a prize, you just left me a smile. Now time stands still, I wish I could call it a day, There's no melody in life, it sings no more. You took it away, the music from a musician's heart Along with you, it ascended the ride. The dreams I had of making a song with you, You the lyricist, me the composer, I'm picking up the remains of it With tears falling down instead. Nor did you watch your wishes become immortal in our hearts. You left before fulfilling them yourself. What use is complaining now, these will be just blank words in space. One day they will be lost, just like yourself. Nor are you around to hear my complaints, Otherwise, I know we'd start a fight again.

Those who love us never really leave us...

I look down at everyones faces They all are there, staring up at me

Most are all just singing praises Though I am not sure I deserve it.

But yes, I feel proud too

My heart is not fluttering, As I thought it would

I feel Ive been ready for ages

Most of them have tears in their eyes But some smile at me Go on,

But before I turn towards the skies

    On to this rollercoaster ride,

Ill try to enjoy this ride, I shout down to them silently I have Him just by my side,

Hell hold my hand, and never leave it!

Trust Him if not me, Trust all those who

Made this ride safe for me. We hold hands, and I ascend the ride!

(A poem by Pranali written a month prior to her eternal journey...)

    PRANALI IN SCHOOL

Her Achievements: She wore the directors hat very im-pressively and won the best director award for a scene of the drama Mer-chant Of Venice staged by Class XB. She was a mastermind as far as Olym-piads go. She has got her story- THE GLOWING PRET published in ES-TRADE magazine. Last but not the least Pranali was the best co-editor ZEN could ever have. Pranali as a friend: She is one of the few people who gets what I am feeling without me even telling it to her. -Heer I know her since 3rd grade and all these years even though we had been friends we shared an interesting relation full of friend fights. I miss her dearly. -Prachi A few words in honour of Pranali: Nitwit.Oddment.Blubber.Tweak -Ahan Pranali as a student: She was a cheerful child with lots of en-ergy, always wanting to do a lot of things in a short span. She was an avid reader and very good and powerful with argu-ments. She had a completely different approach to life which was a lesson for all. Will miss you a lot dear. Lots of love... -Deepa Maam Pranali will always remind me of all that is good in a person. She was kind, generous, cheerful, helpful, and so modest even though she had so many achievements to be proud of! An angel on Earth, she is surely with angels now. God bless her. She will be missed. -Nivedita Maam You were a ray of sunshine when the clouds struggled to make a mark You were the smile on the tender flowers of spring Your were an apple of the eye of your teachers

Dear Coeditor of the school magazine You had a way with words, as your last poems here suggests This spirit, that exemplifies immense strength shall always be etched in our memories -Jonali Maam
