2 Introduction

About Zeligsoft CX for CBDDSZeligsoft CX for CBDDS (CX4CBDDS) is a plugin to IBM Rational Software Architect (RSA8), which must be installed first.The following instructions guide you through installation of RSA8 and the CX4CBDDS plugin, and applying both the RSA8 and CX4CBDDS licenses.


3 Installation

3.1 Pre-requisitesZeligsoft CX for CBDDS (CX4CBDDS) is a plugin to IBM Rational Software Architect (RSA8), which must be installed first.

Note: Installation and updating should be performed from an account with root/admin privileges.

On Linux systems you may need to increase the number of file handles. The default is usually 1024 and this should be increased to 4096, by using the ulimit command. See man ulimit for details on increasing the number of files.

On Linux, if you want the product to be used by users other than root, then set the umask variable to 0022 before you install the product. To set this variable, log in as root user, start a terminal session, and type “umask 0022”.

3.2 Obtaining RSA 8.0.xIf you do not have RSA8 installed or your organization does not have an installation site, then the simplest method is to use the IBM developerWorks download:

This site will guide you through the procedure for downloading and installing RSA8 and will provide you with a 30-day evaluation license (if needed).

Note: If you are not able to use the IBM developerWorks facility, then please contact PrismTech support and they will make alternate arrangements.

3.3 RSA8 Installation ProcedureStep 1: If you are installing from electronic disks downloaded from IBM Passport

Advantage, open a command line and change to the directory where you extracted the disk images, and then do one of the following:


WIN Run RSA_SETUP\InstallerImage_win32\install.exeUNIX Run RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_linux/install

Step 2: Install the IBM Installation Manager if it is not already installed on your system. Follow the prompts and accept the license agreement to install the IBM Installation Manager. Click Restart Installation Manager.

Step 3: From the IBM Installation Manager, click Install.

Step 4: Select IBM Rational Software Architect and click Next.Note: During the installation you may be prompted to browse to a specific

installation disk. Browse to the each requested disk each time you are prompted to do so.

Step 5: Click Next twice.

Step 6: Accept the license agreement.

Step 7: Click Next.


Step 8: On this screen you can either select a different directory for the shared resource or keep the default.

Step 9: Click Next.

Step 10: On the next screen you can either select a different directory to install into or keep the default.

Step 11: Click Next.


Step 12: On this screen you can choose to install into an existing Eclipse installation.


Step 13: Click Next twice.

Step 14: Select Architect - Minimal under IBM Rational Software Architect 8.0.3 > Installation Profiles

Step 15: Select Extensibility and patterns-based engineering.



Step 17: If you need to select any other software to install, select it at this time.Note: You cannot install XSD Graphical Editing and Transformations, as it is

incompatible with the CX4CBDDS plugin. If you need to install this functionality, contact PrismTech support.

Step 18: Select Access help from the Web.


Step 20: Click Install.

Step 21: Click Finish.Once the installation has completed, RSA8 should start. The installation will provide a 30 day trial license, so you can click ignore on the licensing message that pops up. If you have a permanent RSA8 license, you can also install it at this time by clicking Manage Licenses on the dialog that is presented. If the installation manager is still running, you will need to exit it as clicking Manage Licenses will try to start another instance of it and will fail. Alternatively, you can apply the permanent RSA8 license from the Installation Manager, by selecting Manage Licenses.

3.4 Obtaining the CX4CBDDS pluginDownloading the CX4CBDDS plugin, documentation and licenses.

Step 1: Log in to the customer portal which may be accessed at http://www.prismtech.com/support

Step 2: Select the Contracts & Product Downloads tab. This will display all the Contracts that you own.


Step 3: Select your Zeligsoft CX contract. This will display the List of Assets you own under this contract.


Step 4: Select the Assets you wish to download. This will display details of this Asset and a list of versions available for download.


Step 5: Click on the HTTP Download link for the Version you wish to download. This will initiate the download.

3.5 Installing the CX4CBDDS pluginStep 1: Make sure you started RSA from a root/admin account.

Step 2: From the menu bar, choose Help > Install New Software.

Step 3: Click Add.


Step 4: Click Archive and browse to the CX4CBDDS update site archive download.

Step 5: Click OK.

Step 6: Click Select All.


Step 7: Click Next.

Step 8: You will be presented with the following Security Warning:

Step 9: Click OK.

Step 10: Restart RSA8.


3.6 Product documentationCX4CBDDS help is available in both WebHelp and FlashHelp formats.If you want to access the CX4CBDDS documentation using Eclipse help, it is provided as a separate installation. To install the product documentation, follow these steps:

Step 1: Download the documentation plugin as described in the section above on downloading the CX4CBDDS plugin, licences and documentation.

Step 2: Open the software update screen with Help > Install New Software.

Step 3: Click Add.

Step 4: Click Archive and browse to the downloaded zip file.

Step 5: Click OK.

Step 6: Click Select All and Next to install the documentation.

3.7 Product LicensingCX4CBDDS requires two (2) licenses to run: an RSA license is required for the base tool, and an SCX license is required to access the CX-specific functionality. The first time RSA8 is installed a 30 day trial RSA license will be installed. To make the installation permanent, you will require a permanent RSA license which can be acquired by contacting IBM directly or PrismTech ([email protected]) if you purchased an RSA8 license with your CX4CBDDS seat.

3.7.1 Importing the RSA licenseWhen the 30 day trial RSA license expires, you are presented with a dialog that indicates there is no license key for Rational Software Architect Product Plug-in available.On Linux, you must be running as root to install the RSA license.

Step 1: Click Help > Manage Licenses.

Step 2: Select Rational Software Architect and click Apply License. The IBM installation manager starts.

Step 3: Select Import product activation Kit.

Step 4: Click Next.

Step 5: Browse to the RSA license jar file supplied by support.

Step 6: Click Next and Accept.The RSA license can also be installed by following the above steps after invoking the IBM installation manager directly and not as a result of starting CX4CBDDS.

3.7.2 Importing the CX4CBDDS LicenseThe CX4CBDDS license is usually called <nodename>.lic and is downloaded from the portal as described in Obtaining the CX4CBDDS plugin. There are two license types available: trial and permanent.The first time you launch CX4CBDDS you are prompted to import a license:

Step 1: Click Manage Licenses.

Step 2: Click Import License File and browse to the .lic file provided by PrismTech.

Step 3: Click OK.

Step 4: Review the list of features to be licensed.

Step 5: Click Restart Workbench.You can also access the CX4CBDDS license management wizard from Help > Manage CX Licenses.If you imported a trial license, you can view the time remaining with the license or import a permanent license. From the Help menu, select Manage CX4CBDDS Licenses. After the Manage Licenses window opens, follow the procedure as described above.If your CX4CBDDS trial license expires, the next time you open CX4CBDDS, you are prompted to import a license as described above.
