Dateless by ChoiceBy: Travis DeuerlingNot too long ago, in high school, if you didn’t have a date for prom, you didn’t go. Now, prom has become much more of a social event instead of a strictly romantic affair. Although the majority of prom-goers are still couples, every additional year sees an increasing ratio of teenagers going without dates, in groups or even by themselves. Most the teenagers going to prom without a date aren’t doing so out of necessity, the majority of single prom-goers are going without a date not because they cannot get a date, but because they prefer going in a group of friends. LHS Junior Sarah Dargan says she prefers going to prom with friends, “I’d rather go with my friends rather than a random dude. It’s nice not having to worry about coordinating and I do what I want!”Going without a date has many advantages, not having to worry about coordinating outfits, and if you’re a guy, not having to worry about paying for your date.Just a few years ago, going to prom without a date was unheard of; most high schools didn’t even sell single tickets. So, although it’s still far from the norm, going to prom without a date is rising steadily as the year’s progress.

What did you do before and after Prom?

TrackBy; Alyssa Mingo, Reporter & Efrain D Reporter The LHS track team is currently in progress. It is a diverse sport that allows current athletes to present their talented abilities by partici-pating in various field events. Junior Track athlete, Stephen Hay stated, “I feel excited to be part of the team because it keeps me busy, I enjoy running and it leaves me feeling great!” The team of thirty-five is coached by Mr. Williams, a math teacher and track coach. Recently on the date of March 19th 2011, Lincoln high finished twenty-eighth in a meet located in Auburn California that consisted of thirty op-posing schools. Each individual team player received a chance to participate in various challenges such as; 100-200 meter dash, 1.5-2 mile Races, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot-put and Hurdles. Presently the star record holders are: Kyle Ebert (3200 meters), Joshua Myers (shot put-101lb), Billy Klipp (discus-1.6kg), Jackson Gnile, Savannah Berkley and Kelsi Snook (pole vault), Leo Calderon and Liam Hao (Long Jump).

LHS band at University of Pacific The Lincoln High School band recently had a performance to remember. It took place over a weekend of April 8th – 10th at the University of Pacific, which is located in Stockton, California. Although the performance was noncompetitive, there were six other high schools at the Univer-sity to play as well. College professors and many other people were there and gave the bands some advice on playing and becoming better as a group. “They played college level music and did really well,” says Ms. Behm, the Band Instructor. The band students wanting to attend the trip were fundraising all year for it. It was about $150 per person to go. The day after the performance at UOP, they celebrated their achievement by going to Great America. Ms. Behm went bungee jumping with Brett Dargan, an LHS band member. They had a good time! Keep up the good music playing LHS band!
