Animal characteristics

Zebras are herbivores. They eat a lot of different types of grasses. Zebras are warm blooded mammals. They also have their babies alive. Their stripes help them to camouflage. Their stripes also help to confuse predators. One of their adaptations is that they have large ears and eyes to help them see and hear predators before time so they can escape. A Zebra’s main is bristly, black and white.

Habitats

A zebra’s habitat is very big and it is in Africa. There is lots of animals like lions, hyenas and other animals. It lives on a grassy savanna. Some people also call a savanna a grassy plain. A savanna is very hot.

Why Are Zebras Endangered?

A zebra is endangered because they are hunted for there beautiful skins. They are also endangered because of habitat loss due to farming and ranching. Some people are trying to fix this by doing things like speaking up for wildlife and symbolic adoption which means to donate money to a animal that is endangered.

Zebras can run up to 40 miles an hour. Their life span is about 28 years. The group leader is a female. A males name is a stallion. No two Zebras have the same patterns. A female Zebra is called a mare. Baby Zebras are called fulls. The baby Zebra can stand up within 20 minutes. A Zebra can run when it’s an hour old. It’s teeth grow all their life because if their teeth don’t grow all their life they won’t have any teeth. Their teeth also ware down when they eat grass. A Zebras night vision is as good as an owl’s night vision. Zebras need to stay close to a water hole because they need water often. Zebras are also very social. They have a long tail. Zebras are over 4 feet long and they are also closely related to a horse and a donkey. They make family merges to make bigger herds. They have stripes to confuse preterders. Zebras have hoofed feet and they have a bristly black and white mane. They have large eyes and ears to help see preterders before time to escape. Their is around 750,000 plain Zebras. Zebras weigh over 600 pounds.
