Delta a large deposit of sediment located at the mouth of a stream where it enters a body of standing water

Gulf A large bay that is an arm of an ocean or sea.

Headwaters Upper porportion of land surrounded by water.

Island A piece of land surrounded by water.

Isthmus A narrow strip of land with sea on either side forming a link between two large areas of land.

Lagoon The body of seawater that is enclosed by an atoll.

Mesa A flat topped hill the rises sharply above the surrounding landscape.

Ocean currents Large scale horizontal flow of ocean water that is persistent and driven by atmospheric circulation.

Peninsula Unusual land formation, an almost-island that pushes out into a body of water.

Plateau An area of fairly level high ground

Reef A ridge of rocks found in the tidal zone along a coast line.

Strait A narrow passage of water connecting two seas or two large areas of water.
