AUTUMN 2013 ISSUE 3
The Taught By Muhammad
(pbuh) campaign was
launched in summer 2013 to
promote the true teachings
of Islam. We wanted to
reach as many people as
possible in Dundee and drew
inspiration from previous
campaigns that have
happened elsewhere in the
past. Three very relevant
messages were derived from
the Prophetic Hadiths and
what started off just as a
poster campaign quickly
turned into a fully-fledged
project that not only raises
awareness of the beautiful
teachings of Islam through
messages but also through
actions. The bus and street
ads were a huge
success. With a potential
reach of over 100,000
people locally seeing our
messages, we also found
that the pictures of the
buses went viral on line
with many Facebook and
Whatsapp shares all over
the world and many people
wanting to do the same in
their cities. To help the
needy within our own city
we have started a monthly
Curry Kitchen and are in the
Change makers wanted to
inspire and empower the
Dundee community to
become involved in this
initiative, so partnered up
with 12 organisations and
hosted a series of events
and activities which raised
awareness of justice and
peace.

The highlight of the project was
our Palestine Peace Summit held
at the City Chambers, inviting
young people to be diplomats for
the day and decide the future of
Palestine. There were a series of
workshops and speakers from
different organisations such as
SPSC and Scottish Jews for a Just
Peace. The young people were
then split into groups and had to
decide whether a two-state
solution or one-state solution for Palestine was an adequate one.
The second highlight of the
project was the OWW celebration
event, our final event of the week
brought together the community
and invited the Lord Provost to
speak on environmental and social
justice concerns. Overall it was a
fun-filled week bringing together
the diverse community and
focussing on the theme of the
week- ‘Aspire not to HAVE more
but to BE more’.

planting, a recycled wood work-
shop courtesy of Skillshare Dun-
dee, and building artwork from
recycled materials.
As part of One World Week some
of our girls entertained elderly
residents from Balhousie Housing
with a Multicultural Evening.
Many of our young people also
contributed to other events
during the
week.
Our older students also recently
enjoyed a trip to Glasgow.

Future Leaders Academy has
expanded since the summer break
and we have now enrolled 30
students at 3 different levels of
learning from age 5-16. We hope
to expand further in summer 2014.
Some of our students have
recently taken their first FLA
exams. Another recent highlight
was actively learning about Hajj—
the children enjoyed dressing in
ihram and acting out the various
stages.
