In the coming two years, 150 touring performances of the art show will be given in different parts of China, as well as in the neighboring countries. Pingtan lies off the east coast of Fujian province, and the art show presents openness, inclusiveness, and harmonious coexistence between man and the sea in Pingtan. It was proposed at the meeting to follow the trend of economic and social development, promote the consensus of Yunnan Province to create organic foods, and make organic foods the most shining fea- ture of the “green food brand”; accurately judge the development trend of key industries. Fo- cusing on the future de- velopment direction of tea beverages, Chinese herbal medicine gran- ules, and health food products, Yunnan will concentrate on creating new products and new business formats. Ef- forts are being made to build 3-5 hundred-bil- lion-yuan and several 60 billion-yuan key industries to expand the “green food” industry. Ruan Chengfa urged that key points should be grasped to realize major industrial devel- opment goals as soon as possible, and to achieve organic production, commercialization, large-scale development and brand- names cul- tivation of agricultural products. Further Reading: Green Food on Green Plateau Thousands of seed- lings of red-flower mag- nolia, Verbena, rose, golden grapefruit and American cherry thriv- ing on the rocky hills, vegetable base fully covered with automat- ic sprinkling system, green-tech future center, rainwater collection and activation system... these were among what we had seen at the Chi- na-Australia Center for Sustainable Research and Development of Biological Resources in Yanshan County, Wen- shan City of Yunnan. Chinese and Australi- an scientists here join hands to study farm-to- table organic farming in the hope of building an ecological agricultural park for scientific re- search and sightseeing. “To develop green food, we have to ensure food safety. The soil has to be healthy in the first place, however, soil pollution is very serious today and we need to start with improving soil quality and use organic fertilizers we develop to replace chemical ones,” introduced Dr. Yang Yun, the lead scientist of the center. On the southern slope of Baizhushan Nature Reserve, Chuxiong, thousands of acres of tea gardens extend over the rolling mountains. Yao Zhiben, technical director of a local tea producer, said: “Our tea gardens are at 2300 meters above sea level. Good climate, good vegetation and good soil ensure great production.” Currently, Yunnan has 21 famous agricul- tural brands and more than 2000 certified green organic agricultural prod- ucts. Flowers, Pu’er tea, pseudo-ginseng and many other regional brands have gained global rep- utations. The plantation areas of walnut and mac- adamia in Yunnan rank first worldwide. Yunnan’s export of agricultural products has topped Chi- na’s western provinces for many years. (Compiled from Yun- nan Daily and Guang- ming Daily) “Ordinary people won’t know what ‘modi- fied plastic’ is, but in fact, from home appliances to automobiles, basically where plastic can be used is inseparable from it.” Speaking of his profession, Wu Xiaohui, production director of KINGFA Tech- nology (India), is very fa- miliar.“If we take making bread as an analogy, our industry is a seasoning before baking bread. Cus- tomers need it to be more sweetness, more sour, with or without raisins, how long it can be pre- served......After six or seven years of development, this Chi- nese privately owned high- tech company not only de- veloped the related market in India, but also became a leader in the industry. As China’s only listed compa- ny in India, KINGFA Tech has become a “favorite” in the eyes of Indian financial circles and investors. “It is no exaggeration to say that at present one quarter of India’s modified plastic products have the contribution of KINGFA Technology,” Wu Xiao- hui said proudly. “We are not satisfied with only producing related plastic products in accordance with the needs of our cus- tomers, but in designing a complete set of product solutions for our customers instead. Although we do not directly face consum- ers, we are undoubtedly the most critical link in the entire product production process.”In addition to the simile of making bread, Wu Xiaohui also men- tioned making dumplings. “If you want to eat dump- lings, meat, vegetables, flours, and ingredients are all indispensable, Dump- ling wrap making and the person who makes the dumpling are important as well. However, the key to tasete is the stuffing. What KINGFA does is “making dumpling stuffing”. How can the “taste” of the plastics be improved? The reporter explored the lab of a KINGFA Tech’s local factory. In this com- mon classroom-sized laboratory is arranged with dozens of large and small instruments. They are used to test the hardness, ductility, corrosion resist- ance, resistance to char- acterization, fade cycles, and flame retardancy of plastic products. Although the test equipment are not abundant, and the inspec- tion methods are not that complicated, most of the equipment was purchased from China and is worth more than 6 million yuan. It is the most capable labo- ratory of its kind in India. According to the In- dian Plastics Foundation, the amount of plastics con- sumed in India will double in the next five years, from the current average of 10 kg per person to about 20 kg. Driven by such huge consumer demand, India has become a promising place for the world’s plas- tics industry giants. Regarding the compet- itive advantage of Chinese companies in the Indian market, Prakash, director of the Industrial Policy Department of the Indian Industry Federation, said that the era of Chinese products relying on low- price has passed. In re- cent years, most of the companies with a share in the Indian market are Chi- nese companies with high technology content and more flexibility in market competition than European and American companies. Prakash also believes that China’s investment in hi- tech is increasing year by year. This is the need for China’s industrial transfor- mation and upgrading, and it also drives the upgrading of neighboring countries’ industries. A win-win situ- ation is taking shape. Regarding the perfor- mance of Chinese capital in the Indian market, Laval Kandy, secretary-general of the India-China Investment Promotion Association, ana- lyzed it this way, “To attract overseas investment is the focus of the reform efforts of the Modi government. We have noticed that invest- ment from China in recent years is growing rapidly. It is a new trend for Chinese companies to go abroad by investing in and acquiring Indian high-quality com- panies to achieve Chinese companies’ production in India.” (Zou Song/ People’s Daily ) IPR protection benefit flower growers L ast year, Kunming ex- ported 170 million U.S. dollars worth of flowers to more than 40 countries and regions. Not long ago, however, it was not easy for Chinese growers to explore international mar- kets. According to Yang Yuy- ong, chairman of Kunming Yang’s Rose Horticulture Company, the European, American, Japanese and other markets have long had their own plant patent pro- tection laws. Flowers sold on the international market must be legally grown, and patent royalties must be paid. Thus, in the past, most Chinese flower growers chose to focus on varieties that had been eliminated abroad. The costs were low, but the products could not meet export requirements. In recent years, how- ever, Yunnan province issued a series of policies to encourage innovation and strengthen the creation, protection and application of intellectual property rights for its flower indus- try. In 2009, the province promulgated “Regulations on the Development of the Flower Industry in Yunnan” to promote the development of new varieties. “Independent research and development of new varieties requires a lot of manpower and financial resources, and the govern- ment has intensified support in recent years,” said Yang Yuyong. To date, Yunnan province has cumulatively cultivated 560 new flower varieties and registered more than 100 innovative technologies and patents as- sociated with the industry. (Xinhua/ Yao Bing) W ith the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, international exchanges and cooperation in China’s universities have become increasingly frequent and in-depth. The number of students stud- ying in China from Belt and Road countries keeps increase. Statistics from China’s Ministry of Education show that in 2017, stu- dents from 204 countries and regions studied at 935 universities and colleges in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. Approximately 75,800 were masters and doctoral students, an 18.62 % in- crease compared to 2016. The number of students from Belt and Road coun- tries was 317,200, account- ing for 64.85% of the total, an increase of 11.58%, which was higher than the average growth rate. It is reported that in recent years, the at- tractiveness of Chinese government scholarships has continued to in- crease, and scholarships have been tilted toward neighboring countries and countries along the Belt and Road, becoming an important channel for national strategic talents and contacts. The top 10 scholarship granted countries in 2016 were: Pakistan, Mongolia, Rus- sia, Vietnam, Thailand, the United States, Laos, South Korea, Kazakhstan, and Nepal. The number of students with schol- arship from the Belt and Road countries accounted for 61%, an increase of 8.4 percentage points compared to 2012. (Hu Hao) Central Yunnan’s vegetables sold globally L ocated in southwest China, Yunnan Province is one of the five major commercial vegetable pro- duction bases in the coun- try. In central Yunnan’s Yu- anmou County, vegetables are not only sold to more than 100 cities in China, but also exported to Japan, Korea, Russia and other countries. In 2017, Yuanmou sold 508,000 tonnes of vegetables with the sales income reaching 1.52 billion yuan (about 241 million U.S. dollars). In addition, the county yielded 150,000 tonnes of grape, jujube and other fruits, generating an out- put value of one billion yuan (about 159 million U.S. dollars). In the Dianlian Vil- lage, locals have devel- oped three characteristic planting industries, namely tomato, jujube and grape. On average, each household in the vil- lage achieves an annual income of 200,000 yuan. At present, the apply- ing of the development model of “traditional agri- culture + e-commerce” is in full swing in Yuanmou where there are a total of 51 online and offline veg- etable selling centers. This year, the online sales are expected to reach 250 mil- lion yuan (about 40 million U.S. dollars). Until now, the county has earned 61 certifica- tions and accreditations in the terms of green, or- ganic and pollution-free produces. And two of its produces have been ac- corded the Geographical Indications (GI) tags. Quite a few Syrian auto trad- ers stated that in recent years, Chinese auto brands have become more and more popular in the Syrian market. Nadir Sheikh, Mar- keting Manager of Sharm Assoc Automobile Pro- duction and Assembly Company, told the Xin- hua reporter that China has made a qualitative leap in the field of auto- mobile manufacturing in recent years, and Chinese cars with a beautiful ap- pearance and outstanding performance have become increasingly popular with Syrian consumers. An industry insider pointed out that despite Syria’s suffering a severe impact from war in recent years, there are still more and more Chinese inde- pendent brands entering the Syrian market. (Xinhua/ Zheng Yihan) A s dusk approaches, the last rays of the setting sun cast shadows through the palm leaves. Driving from Kuala Lum- pur, Malaysia, north for 3 hours, the reporter came to Perak. In the assembly plant of Malaysian China Rail Transit Equipment Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CRRC Zhuzhou Ma- chinery Co., Ltd., several trains are ready to go. The workshop direc- tor Vijay has worked for the company for 4 years and he is the first foreign workshop director.“When I first came to work for CRRC, I was just an ordi- nary worker. At that time, I felt I had a lot to learn, so I often worked over- time until very late."Dil- igence must be rewarded. What moved Vijay was that “I am a Malaysian originally from India. The company trusts me and put me in a manage- ment position of leading a team with both Malay- sians and Chinese peo- ple.”It is introduced that the company currently has 155 people, of which 80% were hired locally. Vijay was interested in trains since he was a child and always wanted to un- derstand how trains were produced. Now, his daily job is to make trains and he is always happy. The train tracks connecting Kuala Lumpur urban and suburbs are produced in his work- shop.“I took it a few times. On the trains that I was involved in manufacturing, many memories came to mind”,Vijay said, staring at the train. “My childhood dream has been realized. I am proud of it.” In fact, the train dream is not only Vijay ’s, but Malaysia’s. With an annual output capacity of 100 trains and ability to overhaul 150 trains, the production base has made Malaysia the first country in ASEAN to have manufacturing ca- pacity for rail transit equipment. On April 9, 2013, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak activated the excavation machine to lay the foun- dation for the shoveling of the production base. Jiang Zhengguan, general manager of CRRC Railway Trans- portation Equipment Co., Ltd. in Malaysia, said that CRRC Zhuzhou Lo- comotive Co., Ltd. has implemented five locali- zations in Malaysia: local hiring, local procurement, local services, localized manufacturing and mar- keting.“Only by stimulat- ing local employment and production and bringing true benefits to the local area, can we keep going.” According to Zhou Li, general manager of CRRC Maintenance Co., Ltd. in Kuala Lumpur, the Belt and Road initiative is mutually beneficial, al- lowing the world to share the fruits of China’s de- velopment. CRRC Zhu- zhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. launched its first overseas rail transit 4S store in Malaysia in 2011, aiming to help Malaysia significantly improve its maintenance level of rail transit equipment. The maintenance base and the production base work together. In the future, trains that symbolize the cooperation between Chi- na and Malaysia will be transported to other ASE- AN countries. At present, the apply-ing of the development model of “traditional agri-culture + e-commerce” is in full swing in Yuanmou where there are a total of 51 online and offline veg-etable selling centers. This year, the online sales are expected to reach 250 mil-lion yuan (about 40 million U.S. dollars).

Until now, the county has earned 61 certifica-tions and accreditations in the terms of green, or-ganic and pollution-free produces. And two of its produces have been ac-corded the Geographical Indications (GI) tags.
