The book is entled, The Daniel Plan: 40 days to a Healthier Life. Sounds good. Wait a minute… Another “40 days” book by Rick Warren?!? And this one is about diet and exercise?? Hmmmm. I decided I should do some research. So I read some excerpts on line and then went to the local Chrisan bookstore to check it out. I have to say, it looks like a good strategy. Here’s what Rick Warren says right at the beginning. The Daniel Plan “is far more than a diet. It is a lifestyle program based on biblical principles.” The book focuses on what Warren calls the five essenal components: Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus, and Friends. How Does Jesus define true spirituality? True spirituality is not religious acvity, formulas, or keeping religious rules. It is lived out in life’s key relaonships as we love God and love people. So the more important queson becomes… How close is your relaonship with Jesus Christ? This series based on Romans 12 reveals a relaonal profile of what it means to be a disciple, as well as a proven pathway to becoming more like Jesus every day. True Spirituality According to Jesus includes the following messages: What is True Spirituality? Giving God What He Wants the Most Geng the Very Best from God Coming to Grips with the Real You Experiencing Authenc Community Overcoming the Evil Aimed At You Most weight-loss plans include food and fitness ps. Some talk about changing our thinking habits and “triggers” (focus). But Warren says the secret to this plan are the other two elements – Faith and Friends. “Dedicate your body to God [Romans 12:1-2]. Ask for His help, and get involved in a small group of some kind that will support you on your journey. Then start making healthy choices… It’s not rocket science. It’s just good, common sense.” And if that weren’t clear enough, Warren goes on… “Let me be clear: There is no magic pill, no quick fix, no instant formula, and no shortcut that will make you healthy overnight. You must make wise choices every day.” This course will walk you through some of those wise choices and give very praccal help with all the essenals of healthy living. If I haven’t sold you yet, then take it from Dr. Oz: “I witnessed firsthand The Daniel Plan’s impact on personal health. Grab a friend and begin your journey to an all- around healthy lifestyle that’s aainable and sustainable.” Are you ready for a 40-day challenge? If you haven’t heard, Rick Warren (along with some medical doctors) has written a new book. The book is entitled, The Daniel Plan: 40 days to a Healthier Life. Sounds good. Zany Winter OlympicsJoin us on Friday, January 17, 2014 @ 6:30pm as we go for the gold with our own Olympic events. You may not have made the USA Olympic team, but everyone makes the DZ Olympic team! The cost for this event is FREE and is open all kids birth – 5th grade. Registration is required at the children’s registration desk or by emailing: [email protected].

Taking Steps – Parent Night We are committed to partnering with parents so kids can Discover God at church and at home. At our Open House event, we asked parents what they would like to learn to be empowered at home and one of the most requested topics was Creation vs. Evolution. On Wednesday, February 17, 2014 at 7:00pm, we will have our first parent night to learn about evolution, how to talk with your kids about evolution and get your questions answered. There is no cost for this event, but please register at the registration desk or by emailing to [email protected] to be sure there is enough seating.

Taking Steps to Discover GodThe Discovery Zone wants to help build an authentic faith in the children. One of our first steps is to provide some fun discussion starters you can use to apply Biblical truths to real life situations when you are together at home. You can sign up to receive an email or text each week that has a discussion starter that relates to the Bible lessons the kids are learning in church. Forms are located at the Registration Desk if you are interested in this resource.

The Gospel Project Family AppIf you are interested, you can get The Gospel Project for Kids Family App that takes kids deeper into each lesson. The Kids App has information for both Preschool and Elementary classes. You purchase the App by quarter and you can access all of the Bible lesson videos, games and key passage verses. Key Bible Passage for December

Part 4The Christian life is a journey… and we are all at various points along the way. I trust you have been pondering these “catalysts” (thanks to Andy Stanley) that move us along in spiritual growth.

Just a quick review… The first catalyst is Practical Teaching and Preaching. God wants to use His Word in our lives to change us – from the inside out. The second catalyst is Private Disciplines. We need to develop daily spiritual practices including Bible reading/study and prayer to make steps of personal, spiritual growth. The third catalyst is Personal Ministry. Everyone is a “minister” and everyone has a part in “ministry.” Find a place of service and get involved.

The fourth catalyst in growing spiritually is Providential Relationships. God brings people into our lives so that he can accomplish his work in and through us. And many times, we have nothing at all to do with it – thus the word providential. It is amazing to look back and see how God was at work through people and circumstances (that will be that fifth catalyst next month). But what is it about these people? Again, to share Stanley’s thoughts… we hear from God through them or see God in them. Ponder that for a moment. People that God somehow uses to communicate with us right where we are. People that model God’s character for us… and it is obvious. God is at work, and sometimes all we can do is look back and rejoice. But we can do two things: first, be on the look-out for those people that God is trying to use in your life. Second, take time to build some solid relationships with people who are walking with God. Who knows how God will use those people in your life?

faith

It is exciting to think that we have touched people’s lives with the love of Jesus in so many ways in 2014. Perhaps

you used the spoken Word, or prepared a meal, gave money anonymously, or simply said kind words that made someone feel very special. As you fill out your calendar for 2014, we hope that you will save a couple of very important dates. On March 29th Fellowship Chapel will again be participating in a Taste of Hope, an event that helps to support Summerfest. We provided many baskets for the auction, as well as $10 gift cards to local businesses, and we plan to do that again.

That other key date we hope you will reserve on your calendar is Saturday, August 9th , for Summerfest. They both seem a long ways off, but they will be here before we know it. We will have lots of details for you in the coming weeks, but we don’t want you to miss out on these great opportunities to help families in need that live right in our backyard. Last year during Summerfest, we reached out to literally thousands of hurting people with food, clothing, toys, medical help, bicycle repairs, haircuts, prayer, and of course, the message of salvation. Will you plan to set aside these dates and then join us for this outreach opportunity? Be sure to listen for further details.

ALPHA COURSE COMING SOON! All of us have acquaintances that don’t enjoy a relationship with the living Christ. This is a great opportunity for you to invite that friend to “dinner and a conversation”. I promise you a very relaxed, non-threatening place for them to come and explore what faith can mean on a daily basis. We’ll start with a kick-off banquet on Wednesday, February 19th, at 7:00 pm, and then meet each week until April 9th. You can find flyers in the hub to hand out as you invite your friends. Be sure to let them know that we’ll have dinner together each week and child care provided if they need it. I am looking forward to meeting new friends. Will you bring them?
