Friends of Jesus Bulletin
Children & YouthJanuary 2020
This year we have focused our lessons and teachings on prayer. Just taking the
time to teach the kids what prayer is, how to pray and just spending time in prayer has been an amazing experience. They are beginning to notice the Holy Spirit in life’s little moments. They are beginning to know where to turn to when they need someone, something just isn’t right or when the just
need to talk to God.
I believe with this foundation they will have strong faith throughout their lives. I hope you enjoy reading some of the kids responses on prayer and what it is to them. We could learn a lot from these kids. Happy New Year & God Bless, Jewel Etherington Director of Faith Formation &Youth Ministry

Prayer is when you think about people and thinking really hard and praying for them helps them. Especially to be nicer. I like to pray at church and with my family. My favorite prayer is the Our Father. I probably know about 5-10 prayers by heart. Prayer sometimes helps it calms me down and helps me think. Talking to God in my owns words is a great way to pray. Holt Huntsman - 3rd Grade
Prayer is when you love God and talk to him to help make things happen. I pray so I can keep my family safe, to say thank you to God for the things I have. I know just a couple prayers and my favorite is the Sign of the Cross. Prayer helps me so I can know stuff and it makes me feel better. Talking to God in my own words makes me feel safe and loved.
Tya Stebleton - 1st Grade
Ask Father Jose“Why do Altar Servers have to wear white robes?”All liturgical vestments and white robes Altar Severs wear are signs of the sacred nature of the mystery we celebrate. In Christian tradition the white robe is a symbol of the baptismal dignity, grace, purity and the light of Christ we receive. Book of Revelation 7:9 reads: after this I looked and behold a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation...standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes... The Altar is consid-ered the “Throne of Christ” [Lamb] and the sanctuary area is heaven. The server represent the angels ans Saints that surround the Throne of God. Angels too are depicted in white robes, sign of holiness. The Altar is also covered with white linen. The Pope, bishops, priests and deacons too wear an alb [white] besides vestment of the liturgical season.
Altar Servers wearing white robes is optional. Reasons for white robes: The following is from ‘Guide for Servers’ book. Robes - “this avoids drawing attention to the person. when you wear alb [white robe] or other liturgical ves-ture, it covers you up to make you look plain, to tone down your body language and to wrap you in a spirit of prayer. The vesture of servers intends to neutralize them, to make them blend into the visual harmony of the sanctuary, and th keep the worshipers attention focused on more central parts of the liturgy-the word of God and the altar of our communion”.
Kids
Prayer is when you put your hands together and pray for people. We pray for people in our family, the people we
love, our friends those who are hurt and we pray for God. I know at least 4 prayers by heart. Prayer helps me feel
safe, calm and closer to Jesus. Prayer in my own words is sometimes hard because I don’t know
what to talk to him about. Ella Gilchrist - 2nd Grade
“Do not be bystanders in life. Get involved! Jesus was not a bystander.”

Wednesday Night Dinner Hosts NeededJan 22, Feb 5 & 19As most of you know we rely on
volunteers to provide meals to our students on Wednesday nights. It works
best if two families sign up together to ease the burden of cooking, serving and cleaning up. Thank you so much
for considering this truly fantastic way to help the young people of our
Parish Community. If you would like to volunteer any of these nights or any other night please contact Jewel @ 521-0500. I do have a few items in the freezer that have been donated and can be used to
make a meal.

TeenPrayer to me is one on one conversation with God that allows me to become closer with him & my church. I pray in most in a time of need, when things are not looking the greatest. When I need more support because I know he is always there for me. I know a few prayers by heart, not a tremendous amount but the basics. Prayer gives me relief and clears my head. Knowing that I have said what I need to the most important person in my life. Tim Wageman - 12th Grade
