Report of the Programme organized by Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University Complex on the event of “Heritage Day and National Youth Day”, 12 th Jan. 2010 12 th January, 1863 is the birth date of Shri. Swami Vivekanandji – a great philosopher and social reformer. In his memory the day is celebrated in India as “National Youth day”. Government of India has also decided to celebrate 12 th January as “Heritage Day” for involvement of youth in preservation of historical monuments of our country. On this event, Department of Community Medicine, S.B.K.S. Medical Institute and Research Center, organized a seminar for the students and staff members of various faculties of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth Complex. Event was celebrated by small talks on “Swami Vivekananda and youth” by young speakers from staff, students and intern doctors of the Medical and Dental College. Event was organized in the auditorium of SBKS, MI&RC and very enthusiastically participated by undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff members of Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy and other faculties of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University. Dr. Yogesh Patel, Assistant Professor, Community Medicine conducted the programme and welcomed Dr. G.V.Shah, Dean, SBKS, MIRC, Dr. B.S.Bhavsar, HOD, Community Medicine department, Dr. Hasumatiben, HOD Forensic Medicine department, and Dr. Gosai, HOD Anatomy department on the dais. Then programme was officially inaugurated by enlighting the lamp and introductory speech by Dr. G.V.Shah. Dr. G.V.Shah briefly introduced the day and the event at the institute and also conveyed his message regarding importance of the theme for the young enthusiastic students of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University

12th January, 1863 is the birth date of Shri. Swami Vivekanandji – a

great philosopher and social reformer. In his memory the day is

celebrated in India as “National Youth day”. Government of India has

also decided to celebrate 12th January as “Heritage Day” for

involvement of youth in preservation of historical monuments of our

country.

On this event, Department of Community Medicine, S.B.K.S. Medical

Institute and Research Center, organized a seminar for the students

and staff members of various faculties of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth

Complex. Event was celebrated by small talks on “Swami Vivekananda

and youth” by young speakers from staff, students and intern doctors

and role of young members of the country in preservation of National

Heritage.

Following the introductory speech by Dr. G.V.Shah, Dr. Lakhan gave

his speech on “Swami Vivekanand – an Idol for today’s youth (SvamI

ivvekan>d – AadxR yuva p/̀ eta)”, in that he highlighted few important events

from the life of Swami Vivekananda and explained the characteristics

of a “young person” as per Swami Vivekanand.

Follwing Dr. Lakhan, Mr. Maharshi, student from dental faculty gave is

lecture on “Today’s youth as thought by Swami Vivekananda (SvamI

ivvekan>d nI njre Aaj no yuvan)”. In the speech he explained characteristics of

a young person as thought bye Swami Vivekananda in local language

and also compared it with the harsh reality of today’s youth. His

presentation was full of poetry in local language.

After that, Dr. Rutvij Patel, Intern doctor posted in Community

Medicine gave a motivating speech on “Ideal Youth – as thought by

Swami Vivekanand (yuvan nI prIkLpna)”. In the speech he compared the

Ideal-youth as per Swami Vivekananda with the real youth at present

in a very systemic way of presentation including, shayaris, shlokas and

poetry in local language. He was not limited up to the youth, but he

also compared the events from life of Swami Vivekananda with the

existing working system of the country. Dr. Rutvij also explained

students about the role of a youth of our country for preservation of

national heritage and historical monuments.

Following that Mr. Sandeep Jain, a second year MBBS student who is

an active member of Jeevdaya Charitable trust, an NGO working for

the life of animals and birds, gave his audio-visual presentation on the

activity of the trust and his involvement with that. His presentation

topic was “Youth and his involvement in Community Service (yuvan Ane

seva)”. By his services, he provided an ideal example of what a student

– “a youth” can do for the service of a society. He encouraged young

students present in the seminar to participate in various community

oriented activities like tree plantation at local level i.e. within the

campus of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University Campus. He insisted for

not only plantation but also for adoptation of that particular tree by the

particular student till it grows fully.

At last, Dr. Bharat Bhavsar, HOD, Community Medicine department

ended the programme by a short summary of whole event and a vote

of thanks to all the participants and audience.

To summarize, event lasted for almost one and half hour and was a

grand success in the form of participation by the young audience for

whom it was organized.
