WHY SPONSOR ICRP 2019...

INDUSTRY INSIGHTSThe global radiation detection, monitoring and safety market accounted for

USD 890.2 million in 2015 and is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of over 7.3% in

the coming years. Rising adoption of nuclear medicine and radiation therapy as a

consequence of the increasing global incidences of cancer are expected to drive

the market growth over the forecast period.

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) around

14.1 million new cancer cases were registered and 8.2 million cancer-related

deaths were reported worldwide. It is estimated that in the near future the

numbers are to rise to 21.7 million new cancer cases and 13 million cancer-

related deaths. The global hike in the estimates is expected to increase the

demand for radiation therapy for cancer diagnosis.

Moreover, the application of nuclear medicine wherein radioactive tracers are

employed to enable early cancer detection and monitor disease progression

through the visual tracking of the radiopharmaceuticals, which yield tangible

information related to the molecular nature of the problem causing bodily

disturbances. These systems being far more effective as compared to other

conventional medical imaging procedures that solely indicate the anatomical

location of the issue is expected to propel industry growth over the forecast

period.

The need for safety in radiation and government focus on the same issue

generates demand for safety instruments in this market. For example, FDA

response in the incident of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility ensures

public health and safety to avoid radionuclides in U.S. food supply. Moreover,

other government agency such as CDC for radiations emergency training as well

as education and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) ensures usage of

nuclear energy by peaceful ways are the factors expected to drive the industry

demand for safety instruments in the near future.

THEMES AND PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

MINESRadiation is a natural part of our environment and has been since

long before humans walked the Earth. Even so, there are times

when we need to take protective measures, such as for exposure

to radon in mines, or for ensuring animals and plants are

adequately protected. The ICRP 2019 program looks at a range of

issues associated with radiological protection in mining including

the latest science on radon risk, waste management practices,

and best practice in the protection of the environment.

MEDICINEThis is an age of extraordinary advances in medicine, not least

due to the novel and increasing use of radiation for diagnosis and

treatment benefitting billions of people world-wide. ICRP 2019

examines cutting-edge technologies and techniques in medicine,

and the advances in radiological protection needed to accompany

them so that we can ensure the best possible quality of care for

patients, and a safe workplace for healthcare professionals.

MARSWe have learned to fly high, work in orbit, and even travel to the

moon. Now Mars is calling. On Earth we are protected from the

harsh radiation of space. With advances in high-altitude air travel,

space exploration and the dawn of space tourism, we need to

protect those working or travelling high in Earth’s atmosphere

and beyond. ICRP 2019 brings together world-class experts to

address protection of passengers and crew in modern aviation

and space travel.
