Welcome

We know that more and more people will need to change their position in the job market and develop skills and qualifications to do that. We are particularly keen to get people to think about English and maths qualifications because we know that getting one has the potential to change your life. Thousands of people are doing this every year, and you could be one of them. It works well to do this alongside an ICT qualification. Did you know that people who have a Level 2 maths qualification are far more likely to earn a higher salary than those who don’t? To book an appointment for a chat and skills check please see pages 7-10.

If you think you can’t go to university, think again with our Access to Higher Education programme. You could study Health and Social Care, more relevant now than ever, or go into our exciting new option of Music Technology.

The pandemic has also shown us the importance of health and well-being, dealing with loneliness and looking after our mental health. We can offer you courses in arts, craft and media, languages, and a wide range of interest, health and fitness options.

Finally, this year we will organise your course so that you get a blend of teaching in person and distance learning (support from your tutor online, study materials and activities). This will allow us to reduce overall attendance, help social distancing and keep you safe. It will also give you the best learning experience. We can support you with the online aspect if you need it.

We hope to see you shortly and give you the learning you need.

This has been a very different year for the world and, as a result, Adult Education has changed too. First of all, this brochure is now online and no longer delivered all over Cornwall. This is mainly due to sustainability and the undeniable need to reduce our use of resources. Secondly, it is more flexible for keeping current, which we will need to do as we continue to manage Covid-19 and to provide courses which are relevant.

Most of our qualification courses require a step-in or initial assessment with a tutor, just to make sure the course is right for you.

Fee informationThe fees shown in this brochure apply to learners who meet the criteria below:

• • Have lived in UK/EU for at least 3 years prior to the start of the course

• • Are a UK/EU national

• • Have a permanent address in England

Standard FeeThis is the standard fee for those aged 19 and over.

ConcessionaryQualification courses – Fees shown in this brochure are the full fee for the course. Fee remission, where no fees need to be paid is available for most courses up to Level 3 depending on personal circumstances.

Leisure courses – fee remission where a reduced fee needs to be paid is available if you are in direct receipt of state benefits. Please visit here for further information.

Help with fees


Paying by instalments If you would prefer to spread the cost of your course you may wish to take the opportunity to pay by instalments. This option is available if your course fee is £60 or over.

Your costs will be divided equally into monthly instalments (the final instalment must be paid before the end of your course). The first instalment is due at the point of enrolment which can be paid by cash, cheque, debit or credit card. You will be required to pay the remaining instalments by setting up a standing order when you enrol.

Course materialsFor some courses an initial cost for materials is built into the fee to get you started, but you may need to provide your own books, stationery and any additional materials. Details of the materials you will need and a breakdown of what is already included in the course fee, can be found on the course information sheet. RefundsIf a class does not start, or closes due to insufficient enrolments, a full refund of course fees will be made.

If a learner cancels their place on a course more than 5 working days prior to the course start, they will be given a refund less £20 administration fee. If a learner cancels their place on a course within 5 working days of the course start, there will be no refund. Refunds for other reasons are not generally given, other than in exceptional circumstances such as bereavement or illness supported by a doctor’s certificate. If a course has already started the refund will be calculated on a pro rata basis and will be subject to an administration fee of £20.

Course changes and cancellationsCourses may be cancelled, or changed, if enrolments are too low or for other reasons. Course details and venues may be changed if necessary.

In one year you could be well on your way to a new career or progression onto a degree in you chosen specialism.

If you are aged 19-23 on the first day of learning without a full level 3 qualification you may be eligible for fee remission. You will need to sign a self-declaration.

If you are aged 19 years or over, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your tuition costs. You won’t have to repay the loan until you are earning over £26,575 a year or it will be written off if you go on to complete a university degree or eligible HE course.

We have a wealth of Creative Arts courses on offer to inspire and engage learners from beginners to the more experienced.

These vary from one-day workshops to full year courses. The focus in this exciting and extensive range is on developing knowledge of skills, techniques and processes, specific to the medium being used. Within all our Arts courses we focus on colour, mark making and composition.

Successful completion of these two courses allows candidates to apply for entry onto the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

Our Level 2 Counselling Skills course provides both a grounding in listening skills and an opportunity to experience how these skills may be used in a helping/support role as well as everyday life.

CPCAB Level 3 Counselling Studies course further develops practical skills and examines the role of the professional counsellor.
