Clean Up Australia Day activities and sculpture display Walks, talks and activities No bookings required All Bass Coast Shire residents welcome Your A–Z guide to the activities and events: Bush Tucker Walk 4–5.30pm Walk in the footsteps of the traditional owners of Phillip Island, the Boonwurrung people. Discover their rich cultural lives and close connection with the land and taste some bush tucker along the way. Churchill Island Activities • Cow milking 11am–11.15am and 2.10pm • Wagon Rides 1pm–1.45pm • Blacksmith demonstration 2.30–2.45pm • Working dogs 3pm • Sheep shearing 3.15pm • Whip cracking and boomerang throwing 3.40–3.50pm. Churchill Island Show and Tell 1.30pm See some fascinating objects from the Churchill Island collection and hear their stories with the Churchill Island curator. Churchill Island Walk and Talk 11.30am Take a stroll back in time to discover the magic of Churchill Island Heritage Farm. Clean Up Australia Day 10am–2pm Meet at the Penguin Parade anytime between 10am and 2pm and help with the clean-up at Summerland Beach. Gloves and bags provided. View the amazing ‘rubbish penguin sculptures’ created by Phillip Island’s school students at the Community Expo between 2pm–4pm. Community Expo, Fun and Activities 2–4pm Meet Phillip Island Nature Parks’ wonderful staff, volunteers and community groups at a fun expo. Enjoy wandering through the displays and demonstrations. There’ll be giveaways and fun activities for everyone. Demonstrators include Bass Coast Shire Council, Phillip Island Conservation Society, Phillip Island Historical Society, Bass Coast Friends of the Hooded Plover, Rhyll Coast Action, Phillip Island SES, Phillip Island Artists Society, Westernport Water, Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club and more… Foxes and Ferals 2–3pm Watch out foxes and feral cats–our rangers have you on the run! Join us on this fun activity to learn how we deal with pest animals in the Nature Parks in our quest to protect Phillip Island’s wildlife. Hooded Plover Watch 10.30am–12pm Grab your binoculars or use ours and discover just what the fuss is all about with these tiny, threatened birds. Our rangers and volunteers will also show you other special seabirds and give you insights into their fascinating lives. No bird watching experience necessary. Koala Experience 1–2.30pm and 3–4.30pm Take a special tour with our rangers and volunteers at the Koala Conservation Centre. Experience and understand these amazing animals and their fascinating woodland home. Welcome to Country Indigenous acknowledgement 2pm at the Penguin Parade Environmental Games 3.30–4pm Join our rangers to play some fun games with an environmental message. Penguin Parade 7.30pm Everyone is welcome to enjoy the magical sunset arrival of the little penguins at the evening Penguin Parade. (General admission) Project Penguin Homes 2.30–4pm Get your hands dirty with our rangers and help us create homes for little penguins on the Summerland Peninsula. A great family activity! Shearwater Sunset 7.30–9.30pm Spend a very special sunset with Phillip Island’s short–tailed shearwaters. Discover more about their amazing 16,000 km migration across the globe and witness them flying in across the ocean to their burrows. Shipwrecks of Phillip Island 2.30–3.30pm A fascinating talk by John Jansson The Private Lives of Little Penguins 6.15–7.15pm Walk with penguin legend Dr Peter Dann and discover the secrets behind the lives of Phillip Island’s famous little penguins, including their breeding cycle, fascinating social habits and more. Free entry all day! Entry to all of the activities, attractions and walks and talks is free throughout the day for residents and landholders of the Bass Coast Shire. To gain your free entry, please bring some form of proof of your residency such as a rates notice, bill, driver’s licence etc. There is no limit to how many activities you can attend and no bookings are required. Please just come along and enjoy the fun! Local’s Pass Don’t forget that an Exclusive Bass Coast Shire residents Local’s Pass is also available and for the single cost of a 3 Parks Pass, you can enjoy entry to Phillip Island Nature Parks all year round. Useful Information • Parking is available at each venue. • Please dress for the outdoors and the weather–don’t forget hat, sunscreen, water and raincoats (we hope you don’t need them!). • Activities will happen no matter what–we have wet weather options available. • Most activities have wheelchair access. • No unaccompanied children–thanks!
