Welcome to the new Part-time Prospectus. This year we are offering a wide range of programmes which include many new courses as well as some old favourites. I am sure that whether you are looking for some training to further your career opportunities, or seeking to learn a new skill, you will find something that interests you.

Access courses are specifically designed for mature students who would like to progress to University but who have not been in recent study or have the qualifications for progression. Access courses are validated by Apt and the vast majority of students progress successfully to degree level study.

Access to Higher Education Creative ArtsThis course is designed to develop your creative potential and prepare you for progression to a higher level of study at University or Art College. The course will enable you to gain a broad understanding of subjects within the art and design framework. A Lecture Theatre and Drama Studio, Hairdressing and Beauty Salons, Training Kitchen and Music Practice Rooms, Recording Studios and Conference Rooms are all located in the Zennor building. The Senara Restaurant, open to the public, is also located here.

In the Porthcurno building classrooms and science laboratories border a large indoor Multi Use Games Area with the state of the art synthetic turf pitch located close by.

Lamorna, Haldrine, Penberth and Sennen buildings and the restored Treneere Manor comprise a range of accommodation from small classrooms to exhibition areas with computer suites and Learning Resource Centres across the campus available for all full and part-time students to use.

Facilities for HirePenwith College has a range of spaces available to hire including our Lecture Theatre, Sports Facilities including the Synthetic Turf Pitch, Drama Theatre, Exhibition Spaces and an Outdoor Performance Area (Amphitheatre).

Technical support is available for audio visual equipment, computer suites, interactive white boards and video conferencing. Penwith College holds both entertainment and alcohol licences and we can also provide catering for your event. For rates, availability and any further information please call 01736 335000.

The new buildings take advantage of the wonderful position of the College, both in terms of proximity to the town centre, transport links and the fabulous views that the College enjoys over Mounts Bay.

The centre of the campus is an amphitheatre providing space for students to relax in as well as an outdoor performance area of theatre and music events produced by College students and visiting arts groups.

The large Gwenvor building bordering much of the amphitheatre houses Automotive Engineering facilities including workshops for fabrication, welding and paintwork. The centre of Gwenvor has a large open space able to accommodate a two storey house for the new construction trade courses available at Penwith.

The refurbished Old Grammar School retains much of its originalcharacter whilst housing state of the art facilities for Art and Design, Photography and Ceramics, in what is now the Nanjizal building.

24+ Advanced Learning LoanAre you aged 24 or over and thinking about Further Education?

You may be eligible for an advanced learning loan which you only pay back when you’re earning over £21,000. The loan is not means tested and there are no fees to pay up front.

The Government has introduced this scheme to enable those aged 24 or over to apply for a loan to cover course fees. If you’re planning to study at Level 3 and above, you may qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.

If you complete an Access to HE Course and progress to an HE degree and complete the full qualification you will have the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan written off.

Initial Materials FeeWhere possible the initial materials fee has been shown. These are payable even if you receive free tuition. ALL students will be required to provide their own books and materials.

Student PrintingA small print allowance is available to students. Top-up vouchers for print are available to purchase from Resource Centres and the College Shop.

RefundsA full refund will only be made if a class does not start or closes after one session. After a course has started, pro-rata refunds can only be made if you are ill (medical certificate required) and all refund requests must be made in writing to the Principal.

Exams InformationFor the majority of qualification courses, any fees payable to the Awarding Body for registration, examination entry and certification, will be collected together with the course fee payable before the start of the course. Where this is not the case, the additional payment due will be stated in the course description in the part-time courses brochure. If you are enrolled on a qualification course, then provided all fees have been paid you will automatically be registered with the awarding body and entered for any examinations as appropriate.

If you need to re-take any examinations in which you are unsuccessful, you will need to enter for these separately and make a re-entry payment to the examinations office. You will receive written advance notification of the arrangements for formal examinations and written confirmation of your results. Certificates will be posted recorded delivery to the address as given on your enrolment form, so please do ensure that any change in your contact details is notified to the part-time courses team. Any questions about registration, examinations or certification should be directed to the Exams Office 01872 267106 for Truro based students or 01736 335127 for Penwith based students. Child Care FundingIf you are eligible for free tuition (see previous categories) or your gross annual household income is less than £17,000 you may be entitled to financial support towards childcare while attending your course. First Full Level 2/3Students aged 19 -23 studying for their first full Level 2/3 qualification may be entitled to free tuition while studying on programmes at full Level 2 and 3. If you think that this applies to your situation, please contact the Part-time Courses office for further advice and guidance. If both you and the qualification are eligible, you will be asked to sign a self declaration form stating that you do not hold a full Level 2/3 qualification. Examples of Level 3 qualifications are, NVQs at Level 3, one or more A Levels, Access to HE certificates, Level 2 and 3 Diplomas.
