R-E-S-P-E-C-T in the Classroom You spend 83% of the day in class 85% of referrals are from the classroom

teacher To be successful at Kaiser, you need to

RESPECT your teacher and your fellow students

Page 9: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T There is ONE boss in the classroom – The

Teacher If the teacher tells you to do something, you do

it▪ No Arguing; it’s DISRESPECTFUL

*If you have a problem with what the teacher asks you to do, you can discuss it on YOUR time, after class, during lunch, before or after school▪ You can’t interrupt a class of 38 students to deal with

YOUR issue; it’s DISRESPECTFUL

Page 10: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) If you and the teacher cannot reach an

understanding, contact your counselor▪ Not doing your work and ditching your class

will not help your situation We really want to help you resolve your

issues; BUT, there’s a RESPECTFUL way to handle conflict

Page 11: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Tardies▪ You need to get to class on time; when you

arrive late, it’s DISRESPECTFUL to your classmates and to the teacher▪ Repeated tardies will cause you to lose

privileges including dances and other school events▪ Tardies will ALWAYS drop your grade▪ Tardies could get you ASWP, ALC, or even

suspension

Page 12: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Electronic Devices▪ ALL electronic devices must be put away

BEFORE you enter the classroom; it’s DISRESPECTFUL for you to be texting, listening to music, etc. while the teacher is teaching▪ If the teacher asks you for your iPod, phone,

etc., even if you were just checking the time, hand it over▪ If you have to be sent to an office to deal with

an electronic device issue, expect to lose the device for a week

Page 13: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Dress Code▪ You need to dress for success; Gang attire,

clothing that shows your undergarments, shirts with inappropriate words or images, etc. are DISRESPECTFUL to your teacher, your classmates, and, most importantly, to yourself▪ Repeated dress code violations will result in

ASWP, ALC, and even suspension▪ You can’t go wrong with Kaiser gear. Visit the

Cat’s Meow, our Student Store in H-110, for the latest Kaiser style

Page 14: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Profanity▪ The words that come out of your mouth give

those around you an impression of what type of person you are; make sure you represent yourself well▪ Bad words, dirty jokes, etc. are

DISRESPECTFUL to your teacher and your classmates; they could also have you facing sexual harassment charges▪ Think BEFORE you speak

Page 15: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Outside of the Classroom▪ There is a bit more freedom outside of the

classroom, but the same basic principle of RESPECT applies▪ You still need to behave in a way that takes

others into consideration▪ You share the school with 2,700 other

students; act like it

Page 16: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Keeping the Campus Clean▪ Pick up after yourself during lunch; it is

DISRESPECTFUL to leave your area full of trash▪ You will lose the privilege of hanging out in

your preferred area if you continue to leave a mess▪ Keep the gum at HOME

Page 17: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Public Displays of Affection▪ You’re in love? Good for you!▪ No one wants to see you making out; it’s

DISRESPECTFUL to yourselves and those around you▪ Keep your relationships classy and respectful;

you are in school to learn, not to be next to your special someone 24/7▪ Gentlemen: Your special someone will get to

class just fine without you

Page 18: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Graffiti▪ Do NOT etch, write on, or “slap tag”

any school or private property; it is DISRESPECTFUL to your peers that share this school with you and to the thousands of hard-working citizens who pay taxes to clean up your mess

▪ Expect a suspension, ticket, and possible arrest if you are involved in any type of graffiti or vandalism

Page 19: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Drugs and Alcohol▪ Do NOT bring, use, hold on to, or sell any drug or

alcoholic beverage; it is DISRESPECTFUL to your teachers, fellow students, and to your parents or guardians

▪ Drug and alcohol use is the quickest way to ruin your chances of graduating

▪ School is difficult enough with a clear mind; it’s almost impossible to be successful when you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol

▪ Expect a suspension and ticket or arrest if you are involved with drugs or alcohol on campus

Page 20: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Weapons / Dangerous Objects▪ Do NOT bring, use, or hold on to any weapon or

dangerous object in school; it’s DISRESPECTFUL to your peers and to the adults that work on this campus

▪ There is ABSOLUTELY NO valid reason to bring a knife, brass knuckles, etc. to school

▪ If you fear for your safety, let a responsible adult know; they will help you properly deal with your safety concern

▪ *Four out of five times, the person who tries to use a weapon against a group gets the weapon taken away and it is used on him/her

▪ Expect a recommendation for expulsion and arrest if you are found with a weapon / dangerous object on campus

Page 21: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Fighting / Violence▪ Fighting, arguments, and other violence, either

physical or verbal, will NOT be tolerated at Kaiser High School; this behavior is probably THE most DANGEROUS and DISRESPECTFUL behavior you can be involved in

▪ If you have an issue with another student or group of students, your teachers, counselors, campus security officers, school police officer, and principals will do everything possible to help you resolve your issue WITHOUT making you seem like a “rat”

Page 22: Your Choices Your Success[1]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Cont.) Fighting / Violence (Cont.)▪ Be wise; most of the time, “self defense”

begins DAYS before the actual physical incident▪ The best, most effective self defense is to let a

responsible adult help you resolve your conflict▪ If you are involved in a physical or verbal

conflict, you run the risk of ASWP, ALC, suspension, or even expulsion; you could also receive a ticket or be arrested

▪ 80% of the time a conflict begins because of a misunderstanding or “he-said-she-said”

Page 23: Your Choices Your Success[1]
