AMBASSADOR OF THE YEARAnna Bolton, The Wake Forest Weekly

Congratulations to Anna Bolton for being named Ambassador of the Year! She was awarded this honor during the State of the Chamber on May 26th. “I am truly honored to be awarded Ambassador of the year!” Anna said. “I am proud to be a part of a program filled with an outstanding group of business leaders who are dedicated to our community! Thank you!” Anna is an advertising and marketing specialist for The Wake Forest Weekly. She moved to Wake Forest four years ago from south Georgia with her husband, Chase, and their dog, Sadie. They enjoy the great weather and abundance of greenway trails that were not a part of their lives before becoming residents of Wake Forest. Anna joined the Chamber’s Ambassador Program because she wanted to be more involved in the community. “I really enjoy being an ambassador. It has given me the opportunity to meet new business professionals and grow my relationships with them,” she said. Since her schedule changes from day to day, Anna appreciates that the Chamber offers a variety of ways to be involved. “The wide variety of networking events and volunteer opportunities are wonderful; there is something for every schedule!” she said.

Anna Bolton (center) accepts the Ambassador of the Year Award from Board Chairman Ryan Hutchinson and Chamber President Marla Akridge.

In addition to its weekly publication, The Wake Forest Weekly has several special promotions throughout the year. They are currently preparing for their largest promotion, The Best of The Best Awards. “I love The Best of The Best awards because it gets everyone in the community involved. The promotion is all about local businesses and honoring them for what they do in our community. It also gives citizens a chance to voice their opinion by casting votes for their favorite businesses.” If you want more information on The Best of The Best and how you can be involved, contact Anna at [email protected].

Selected Fellows have demonstrated a passion for improving the birth-to-career education pipeline and a desire to take their chambers’ educational efforts to the next level. Fellows represent chambers that are currently engaged in policy, programs, systems reform, and messaging/communications relating to the areas of early childhood education, K-12, higher education, and workforce development. This fellowship program serves to advance chambers’ previously defined education attainment and workforce development goals with the understanding that they will ultimately help ACCE and their peers around the country build replicable programs and policies. “We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to this high-end leadership training initiative and the high caliber of applicants,” said Mick Fleming, president of ACCE. “This latest step in our strategy to engage businesses in education attainment will maximize the linkage between education and economic development goals.”

SPELLING GRANT RECIPIENT UPDATE Wake Forest Charter Academy was the recipient of one of the Chamber’s Spelling Bee Grants. Amber Sullivan, Kindergarten teacher, provided us with an update. “We have gotten a lot of use out our explore now materials. We were able to purchase blocks, a sensory table with manipulatives, phonics sorting tubs and several puzzles and books on tape,” she said. “One of the great things that these materials gave us was insight on how much our youngsters benefit from hands-on active play. We are in the middle of researching the benefits and costs of having additional materials, similar to those we purchased from the grant. They really have enjoyed these materials and we look forward to using them again next year.”
