Project Description Purpose

To provide a chance to both of foreign trainees and local volunteers to communicate and work

together. Through this project, we hope trainees can know more about Chinese culture and hot spots of Chinese society,and trainees can appeal to more people to pay attention to

social problems through their action.

*Fare party: In other to help trainees to adapt to the life in Guangzhou as soon

as possible,we will hold up a welcome party for trainees,and we will introduce Guangzhou and our project briefly in the party

*Culture exploration and protection : We will lead trainees to explore Chinese Material culture and

non-material cultural through various ways.For example,to visit some history sites and architectures , or to experience some Chinese and local cultural like Yue Opera and Kongfu tea , etc.And trainees will be asked to discuss with local volunteer of how to spread and protect traditional cultural. Besides , there will be a cultural exchange activity , trainees from different countries will show the culture of their own country to other people.

*Volunteer Service:Not every person is fortune. There are some people who need

more care and love in the society. We will going to visit the solitary elders and help them to solve some life problems.And we will going to visit some mental disabilities with Guangzhou Huiling Home for Persons with Mental Disabilities.Trainees and local volunteers will be required to think about how to call for more people to pay more attention to special groups.

One week vacation:trainees can go to travel to anywhere they want or spend the

vacation with local people with the accompany of their buddies.

*Social investigation Trainees will make an investigation with local teenagers about

social problem in Guangzhou. Then for the problems that you will have found,trainees are supposed to make and implement a program to improve it.

*Activities review and global village After five weeks in Guangzhou,trainees will be asked for feedback

on their work.And,this week is free-doing week.Trainees can do anything they want to do for the local people(maybe a research,an micro movie of Guangzhou,etc)and we will do our best to help them to accomplish it.And there will be a global village , not only trainees in our project , but also other trainees from another project will attend this activity together.It will be a great chance to exchange different cultural.

*Farewell partyIn the last week, Before the trainees leave, we

will hold a farewe party for trainees.The farewell party will draw a perfect full stop for trainees’ jurney in Gunagzhou,China.

Location Guangzhou is located in the middle south

of Guangdong Province, north of the Pearl River Delta. It lies close to the South China Sea, Hong Kong, and Macau. Zhujiang (The Pearl River), the third largest river of China, runs through Guangzhou and is navigable to the South China Sea. Situated in such an excellent geographical region, Guangzhou is called China's South Gate.

Climate Guangzhou is located in semi-tropical, across the

Tropic of cancer, annual average temperature 20-22degrees, the minimum temperature of 0degrees, the highest temperature of 38degrees C, a pleasant climate, the average temperature is the smallest in the city of. Guangzhou is a subtropical monsoon climate, because the mountain sea, with warm and rainy in summer, adequate light and heat, long frost-free period, short feature. The heat and water, rainfall, suitable for plant growth, as the four seasons evergreen, rich multicolored decorations" Huacheng" Guangzhou provides excellent condition.

Currency The official currency in China is the Renminbi (RMB

or CNY), which consists of yuan, jiao and fen. 10 jiao make up 1 yuan, and 10 fens make up 1 jiao. (The equivalent of yuan, jiao and fen are dollar, 10 cents and 1 cent respectively)

Money is issued in notes of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 yuan, and 1 yuan coins. There are also notes and coins for 1, 5 jiao. Fen is issued as coins. But fen is rarely used as they have no purchasing power.

TIPS: you would better change the money into RMB or US dollars before you come to China.

Internet In most cases, Internet access will be available through both LAN cable

and Wi-Fi where we work or live in. However, when it comes to no wireless service, you can turn your laptop into a wireless router in a really simple way, check the videos below:

Note Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google and many other websites are

currently blocked by Great Firewall of China. That means you cannot get access to them in China mainland, but if you want, there are many online VPN software which helps get access to those blocked websites and some of them are free. Be careful to select online VPN service.

TelephoneFrom CHINA to ABROAD - International direct dialing 1. Dial the international dialing access code (00). 2. Dial the country code of the country you are calling. (If the number starts

with a 0, drop the 0 and dial everything else. )For example, to call the US number (123) 456-7890, dial 00+1+123-456-7890. By default, the international long distance function is closed by telecom

carrier, so you need to call them to open the service and your may be required to pay 300 yuan or more as a deposit to activate the international long distance function. Also it's expensive for international direct dailing.

For example, call USA is 0.80 yuan / 6 seconds (8.00 yuan per min) and 40% off at concession period 0:00-7:00 daily.

• - Using IP card • This is a cheaper way to make an international call. Telecom

opreators offer many kinds of IP cards, such as 17900 calling card by China Telecom. It's the most compatible card and can be used in most area of China. It's cheaper then IDD, for example, call USA is only 0.30 yuan / min + 0.10 yuan /min local connection charges.

• IP cards are often sold at discount prices. You can buy below two cards online and get card number w/ PIN instantly.

From ABROAD to CHINA 1. Dial the international dialing access code (typically 00, 011 or

0011) 2. Dial China's country code (86). (If the number starts with a 0,

drop the 0 and dial everything else. )For example, to call the Chinese number (012)-345-6789 from

the US dial 011+86+12-345-6789. Again, direct dialing is the most expensive way to make an international call.

In China, you can use SIM card and choose to buy one from 3 main mobile service providers: China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom. There are many branches of these three companies and all of them provide international calling programs of themselves. DiseaseIf you are not feeling well, feel free to tell us and OC or

buddies will bring first-aids kit for a little injury. Please bring medicines from your own country so that you can take when you get a fever or disease. It is more effective to take medicines that you are used to. We will take you to a hospital when your physical condition is severe; fee at hospital should be covered by travel insurance that you are supposed to enter before coming to China.

LostIn case that you get lost on your way to the point of pick

up from the airport, you should know how to survive at your own responsibility. Use Skype or WhatsApp. Let us know that you get lost, report the location you are at, or any stores nearby, then OC or buddies will find you and lead you to the right place.

MORE INFORMATION Visa Information We highly suggest you could apply for F visa for

6 weeks, or F visa for 30 days and extend in China. If you cannot get F visa, you could apply for L visa and get extension in China or double L visa. No matter which kind of visa you get, make sure you go to police station to get registration when come to China.
