6. POSTMOTERM REPORT

Name: Cyberplogging

Dates: 29th February 2020

Why We Launched the Project

Our goal was not just to participate in a voluntary activity but we actually wanted to make a

difference no matter how small it may be. Earth is polluted enough and among various

7

pollutants there are so much of non-biodegradable wastes especially plastic which needs heavy

attention. Hence, we chose to conduct plogging activity around our living vicinity.

Documentation

Registration took place from 7.30 to 8.00am outside the tennis court by Gem In Mall. At 8am,

everyone gathered inside the tennis court for a warm up session. At 8.15am, UOC

representative of Trash Hero, Datin Norela @ Oma, gave a speech on the importance of this

activity that was about to be conducted & what are the things to be collected and how we should

be segregating according to its types as we are collecting itself so that it saves time when

counting all things collected later on.

All committee members and volunteers divided ourselves into groups and water and gloves

were distributed before starting to collect the trash. As we went on, more trash were found than

anticipated, especially along and within the bushes. Most plastic bottles were found within the

bushes. Cigarette buds were everywhere along the road and pavement sides. A lot of bottle

caps were embedded within sand or grass. Although cigarette buds are not recyclable and is

general trash we still collected it so that this create awareness among our society about their

trash disposal method or habits.

As we went along to pick up the trash along our route there were traffic police who were

monitoring the traffic while we picked up the trash along our route. There were lots of

recyclable items as well as non recyclable items were found once we were done with our route.

we came back to our meeting point, the tennis court where we collected all our findings

accordingly and there were two categories in which we divided our findings which was general

trash and recyclable items which were plastics items such as bottles & bags, glass bottle, tetra-

pads, cans, boxes & straws.

All the findings were counted and weighted to be recorded before our sponsor Devaz Recycle

Management collect all recyclables. We cleaned up the court vicinity and threw the general

trash in the big trash bin near Gem In Mall.

An appreciation speech was given by lecturers whom joined us to all participants and little

token of appreciation was given to everyone. Food & drinks were then distributed to those

whom ordered. We all said our goodbyes and thank yous and left.

10. CONCLUSION

15

Throuhout this project we had many ups and downs but we were able to solve them by working

as a team and moving forward together. It would have been impossible to sucessfully carry out

the project without the full team cooperation. We also have gained new experiences like how

to organise the projects the necessary approval from many departments to carry out this

activity. While carrying this activity we were so shocked to pick up so much of trash, but end

of the day we felt happy because we made the environment cleaner. We also think there should

be necessary steps taken so that others won’t continue to litter like have campaigns, have more

trash cans, have strict law inforcement like fine thoose who litter and have more frequent clean

ups like this in order to maintain a clean environment. Thank you for Young Mercy UoC fpr

giving us such wonderful experience for now and our near future. Not forgetting Datin Mariani

and Dr.Reishmi for your guidance throut this projectand all friends that volunteered to

contribute to this project.
